Anchor Cards is a spaced repetition app that ships with no built-in cards. Your AI assistant writes and edits the cards; the app only quizzes and reviews. The cards you review live as Markdown files in your own GitHub repository. The app reads them, quizzes you, and writes back only your study log. It never lets cards live inside the app itself, so you can always edit them in your usual editor or AI assistant, and your Git history becomes your study history. ■ Your AI assistant writes the cards Just tell your AI assistant what you want to study, and it writes the cards on the spot and places them in your GitHub repository. The app has no screen for creating cards — with no path to create one, there's nothing for the app itself to break. ■ Your Markdown is the source of truth Write two lines at the top of a Markdown file — `id` and `deck` — and it becomes reviewable. Put the file anywhere, name it anything. The app has no fixed vocabulary of its own: deck names and card headings are whatever you wrote in Markdown. No export feature is needed, because the files were already Markdown. Uninstall the app and your cards stay exactly where they were. ■ Stop copying the same definition onto ten cards Copy one definition onto ten cards, and every time the definition changes you have to fix all ten — and one of them always stays stale. In Anchor Cards, the full text lives on a single definition card. Other cards reference it with `[[id]]`. At review time, the app inlines the referenced card's back into the one you're reading, so it still reads as a single card. The stored text never changes; you only ever edit the one definition card. ■ Hand a card straight to your AI assistant Mid-review, if a card's explanation looks off, copy its stable ID with one tap — your AI assistant can find the card in the same repository from that alone. A card opened from the Search tab copies its front, back, source file path, and ID together. Copy up to ten cards you find difficult at once, or hand over everything you struggled with right after a study session ends. Place your AI assistant beside the app in Split View on iPad or Mac, and just paste. Push the fix to GitHub, and the next review shows the new content. When your AI assistant proposes the fix as a pull request, read the card in the Changes tab exactly as it will be quizzed — leave it open and it updates as new commits arrive. The app never writes cards itself. Every sync also writes a ranking of your weak cards back to the repository, so your AI assistant can see what you're struggling with just by opening the repo — no clipboard needed. ■ Review intervals from FSRS Anchor Cards schedules reviews with FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler). Cards you know well come back less often; shaky ones come back sooner. Turn on read-aloud in Settings to have the front and back spoken on the spot (off by default). ■ Getting started On first launch, the app runs on three bundled sample cards, enough to try the whole flow. To read your own cards: tap "Connect to GitHub," sign in, and pick a repository to show. That's it — nothing to type. ■ Your token, your privacy Your GitHub token is stored only in the device's Keychain. It's never synced to iCloud or written to a repository. The only place your cards sync to is GitHub. The app talks to the App Store and our billing backend (RevenueCat) only to process an Anchor Pro (one-time) purchase, and it does not track your behavior. ■ Anchor Pro (optional, one-time purchase) Every feature works for free. The only difference is how many new cards you can start per day (20 for free). Anchor Pro removes that limit instantly. It's a one-time purchase, not a subscription — pay once, use it forever. ■ What you need ・A GitHub account and a repository to keep your cards in (private is fine) ・One card per file (put it anywhere, name it anything) ・iPhone or iPad (supports iPadOS Split View) ## Version history (last 5 releases) ### 1.6 — 2026-09-13 • Cards can now use the new format: put id and deck at the top of a Markdown file, and store it anywhere under any name. Cards in the previous format keep working. • "Back" shows the previous card again. • After you finish, "Another pass over today's cards" lets you keep going — and those answers are recorded too. • Copying during review now copies just the card's ID, which is all your AI assistant needs to find it. • New Changes tab: read cards fixed in a GitHub pull request exactly as they'll be quizzed. Leave it open and it updates as new commits arrive. • Quotes (such as statutes) are shown slightly smaller, with bold text kept. ### 1.5 — 2026-09-05 ・Grade your own written answers automatically against the key points. ・Trial grading no longer writes to your repository. ・Review intervals now use FSRS-6, matching iPhone, Android and Mac. ### 1.4 — 2026-09-03 Anchor Cards now speaks English. Set your device to English and the whole app follows, and you can write your card faces as "**Front:**" and "**Back:**". Cards written in Japanese keep working exactly as before. The interface has been rebuilt. Grading a card now answers with haptic feedback, and finishing a session shows you what you got through. Card bodies use line spacing and a measure tuned for reading, and heading levels are now visible at a glance. The blank moment at launch is gone. Fixed a bug where the "due now" count on the deck list could disagree with the number of cards actually served.
