The time line is great and being able to lock onto a particular location or continent is very informative. The app only goes to 201 MYA! If you want the formation of Pangea from the Cambrian, you must buy another App. The app would have been rated 5. As it only provides a half the story, the rating is half. ### 3/5 — Great app--Steep Price *2014-05-07, version 1.6* This is a useful app for getting a overall feel of how Pangea was broken up. I found it very useful for my Earth History class is college. My only complaint is the price. Ten bucks just to show the BREAKUP of Pangea, ten I have to shell out another 10 dollars for a different app that shows the FORMATION of Pangea. This needs to be one comprehensive app showing the entire tectonic history of earth. The graphics are a little chunky, and the globe might not handle like you're used to seeing a globe handle in, for example, the maps app, but if you're a bit of a geology buff, you'll play with this thing for days! Date from hundreds of sources are incorporated into these maps. For years the maps were only shared within the geoscience community and were rather expensive. This app has turned flat maps into a navigable globe. So much easier to use and to visualize and illustrate changes over the last 200 million years. Everyone I show this to wants one for themselves! ### 5/5 — Exceptional! *2013-03-30, version 1.5* I've been looking for this type of tool for years! It is an awesome app, and if you like exploring the ancient earth: prehistoric deserts, seas, ice caps, land-bridges, and continents constantly altering, then this is the app for you! You can even pinpoint your current location! Worth it for anyone who is interested into ancient earth. ### 5/5 — Time Travel App! *2012-11-12, version 1.5* This App works well and looks great. It shows the movements of continental chunks, mountain areas and flooded or dry regions from changes in local sea level. The graphics and colors are great on my iPad2. You can also rotate the globe to view what ever is your area of interest. Should be very handy for comparing the geographic arrangements at particular times and regions with particular evolving taxa. ### 4/5 — Could be so much better. *2022-06-20, version 3.0* Good points: showing the mountains, country boundaries, plate locking. Bad points: poor zoom resolution, not enough information. Would like a key to the colours on the globe, indication of climate and information about evolution of life and other developments at each time period. ### 4/5 — A fun visualization gizmo *2015-06-09* Ancient Earth, as it's subtitle suggests is a great way to help a layperson (such as myself) visualize the breakup of Pangaea. It's also great fun to play around with and discover interesting little nuances of Earth's global geological history. While the app is rather expensive, when I consider the amount of work it borrows from its parent project (the PALEOMAP project) and the sheer novelty of seeing those maps as a time-shiftable, rotable globe, I am happy to spend that money. Caveat emptor. I'm holding back on the full five stars as the interface is rather fiddly.
