### 4/5 — Fun little game

*2023-11-30*

It plays like a board game. I beat it within a day. A bit unbalanced and the difficulty of the “towns” are not in order. I don’t like that there were so many random encounters that could instantly end your game on a bad roll.

### 3/5 — OK but unbalanced

*2022-05-10*

I like the concept of this game and at first really enjoyed it. But then I started experiencing how unbalanced the battles are. There is one enemy in particular (not even a boss) that starts with 9 base attack plus dice rolls. It is nearly impossible to beat him, you’d have to be lucky enough to win the lottery, and he instantly kills you. Try as you might, you can never build your attack stats to a 9 base stat.

If there was some kind of bonus when you died, like your stats get stronger each time, it would work. But as it is, I don’t like this game anymore and deleted it, even though I bought all the IAPs. Tower of Fortune is much better, you can actually progress in that one. I don’t recommend this game.

### 4/5 — Create a sequel please!

*2021-12-17*

I really enjoyed this game! The gameplay is quite simple like an old roll and move board game but engaging and manages to feel like an adventure. I have almost every title from Game Stew but I always come back to this one. It hits all the right spots for me. I would love to play a sequel to this or even an IAP update with new content or worlds to conquer. Favorite iOS game. Thanks!

### 4/5 — Wonderful but...

*2019-08-17*

I really really enjoyed this game when I was playing it, and when I kept dying, it made me want to keep trying to see how far I could get.

But here’s the thing.

After all the buildup and all the time it took me to finally beat the final boss, I was expecting a little bit more than just a screen with the final score and a couple pages of epilogue text. I don’t really know what I was expecting, but after such a long struggle, it felt a little bit anti-climactic.

Aside from that, the gameplay was super fun and engaging with just the right amount of frustration. Keep up the good work, Game Stew. I look forward to many more games from you!

### 5/5 — Wow

*2017-07-19, version 1.0.4*

This is so addicting. I've been playing non stop the last two days

### 3/5 — Querformat?

*2017-06-15*

Gibt kein Querformat --> unbrauchbar auf iPad

### 5/5 — 7+ (iOS 10.x)

*2016-12-05*

Unique and entertaining. Definitely deserves more attention than it has gotten to this point. ***EDIT: Thanks for the continued support!

### 5/5 — I love this game!

*2016-08-23*

Game stew and ravenous games are 2 great companies that i look forward to buying there games they never disappoint and have great games, I'm mainly a pc gamer so my standards are high, I love this game a lot of people are saying things are like its imbalanced no! This game is perfect in fact i beat it on every character, free to play, wise and it was enjoyable!

To GameStew: Please make more games like this its stupendously amazing and i would definitely buy it!!!!

### 5/5 — Game stew rocks

*2016-03-16, version 1.0.3*

I love all Game Stew games like this.to me,this is what a phone game should be especially if you're 45 like me and don't have the time for games usually.i grew up with Game & Watch games so graphics are perfect.this is a fun game.i couldn't sleep one night and when the sun was coming up,I realized I'd been playing for over 3 hours.game is simple yet takes thought and some planning. I hate micro transactions but in this or other game stew games,I don't mind.spending a lil $ for in-game gold is worth it especially since you can play all of their games without spending a penny.please keep up the great work! Love the games and keep em coming!

### 5/5 — Classic GameStew Brilliance!

*2016-03-08*

I've always been a great fan of their apps and this one is no exception. I own most of their games and the constantly awesome quality really does shine through. Such a fun mix of board game and luck elements in an acarde-like and addictive game with gorgeous game boy like graphic to boot. Love it love it love it!

Bitte behebt diesen Bug!!!

### 5/5 — Surprisingly fun

*2015-11-01*

Frustrating having to restart after a small run of bad luck but it keeps me coming back!

### 4/5 — Old school

*2015-10-03*

This is a great game with a ton of replay value. The old school graphics and play style fit right in with the awe inducing difficulty. The game mechanics are easy to wrap your head around with some experimentation but the fact that I could, and do, die often keeps me coming back for more. I'll probably cry when I finally beat it and just hope I'm not in public when I do.

### 5/5 — Excellence from Game Stew again

*2015-09-30*

I always enjoy Game Stew games. I really like exploring their gameplay systems and getting lost in the atmosphere created by the music and stylized retro graphics.

Took me a bit of time to fully wrap my head around the gameplay and economy of resources in this game, but once I did, it's been a pleasure to work through. Still only played with one character, might try the others later, but her "roll two dice for events" has saved my life several times.

### 5/5 — Затягивает

*2015-09-30*

Отличная игра от game stew, как и все остальные

### 5/5 — Nice

*2015-09-28*

Good game. Really challenging early and enjoyable later in the game.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Perhaps I'm missing something...

*2018-07-05*

Let me start by saying that I love difficult games, and am completely comfortable with high stakes. I'm happy to die again and again if I'm given the opportunity to succeed by virtue of my decisions. However, this game is mostly on rails, with very little choice for the player of what to do next. Within minutes of beginning each game I encounter a relentless enemy with a +9 to every attack. If I spend $1 more to get a character that rolls two dice in combat, I have a miniscule chance to win if I roll boxcars. The game forces me around a circle so that I cannot avoid encountering the same enemy again and again until I'm dead. Serious rage quit. Deleted.

### 1/5 — What a rip!!!

*2016-10-13*

I was keen to play this as I thoroughly enjoyed the "Tower of Fortune" series, but to my dismay, "Legacy" is just way too difficult. I played the first area multiple times and almost always lost to bad dice rolls, and once I finally thought I got somewhere it bugged out and lost the only progress I made since I bought this! Trust me, this at it's current state is not worth your money. Save it for something else or be warned.

### 1/5 — Enemy balance is a huge hit or miss.

*2016-07-07, version 1.0.3*

Within 5 minutes, you have the chance to be plagued by monsters that easily overpower your new born hero and somewhat powerful ones. Consider the fact that while you can potentially get 9 or 10 attack near the start of the game, some enemies start with 9 attack as their base + whatever their dice roll is. There is no way of making progress once they appear.

### 1/5 — Don't waste my time

*2015-09-20, version 1.0.2*

After dying four times in 20 minutes I figured there was much better use of my time. The dice mechanic, while different than their other games, means there is zero skill necessary so the game decides to kill you arbitrarily.

### 1/5 — Way too easy to die

*2015-09-20, version 1.0.2*

Played it for 2 hours, get turned into a sheep and die in 1 hit ( you get 1 life ). Thanks for wasting my time and enjoy the 1 star. Too many things that 1 hit kill you just because your character is male.

### 1/5 — Luck based system

*2015-09-20, version 1.0.2*

I like their other games but this one actually was not fun at all, I tried 4 times and all I didn't even get passed 20 turns...

### 1/5 — Worst Game Stew game yet

*2015-09-19, version 1.0.2*

I've enjoyed several of their other games, and looked forward to trying this one. I now regret it. There are too many things in the game that will instakill you with no opportunity to survive. Even if you have gold, you only get one reroll, and if you're unlucky, then any progress you've made goes up in smoke.

Save your time, don't play this game. Do something more productive instead, like banging your head against a wall.

### 1/5 — Terrible Game

*2014-12-20, version 1.0.1*

Entirely based on random luck. Constantly frustrating with no incentives to replay. All the worst parts of a roguelike without any of the good. Wish I could get my money back.

### 2/5 — So. Very. Slow.

*2016-12-17*

If you could tap to speed through animations and bridge screens and dice rolls etc. this would be 4 stars. As it stands it's basically unplayable. I deleted it. If it's updated, I'll change my rating.

### 2/5 — Like good stew + food poisoning.

*2015-09-16*

All of the Game Stew titles are great. But they all seem to suffer from unnecessarily tediously-slow game play. How many times I'm forced to watch the same animation or read the same narrative text, written letter by letter across my screen - my thumb wants to tap-to-skip, but no luck. Add this to how entertainingly* easy it is to die in these games and I have never finished a single Game Stew title.

I'd love to give all of the titles 5 stars. But I can't stand playing them.

*I say entertainingly easy because I do enjoy the challenge and cold finality; this Game Stew gets right, I think.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — One of The Best Retro Style Games

*2024-06-16*

People who have not played Game Stew games like Legacy or the Tower of Fortune series games are really missing out on an amazing gaming experience. These games are meticulously polished and designed by someone with very thorough understanding of the classic rpg games and roguelikes. The music and sound effects are amazing and the humor is very clever.

### 5/5 — I adore this game

*2023-12-24*

After 3 years of playing this game, I can say it scratches a particular RPG itch. The victories are sweet. The random deaths are bitter. It is always possible to start a new game very quickly. One of my favorite ios games. I love the work of Gamestew.

### 5/5 — One of my go-to phone games

*2023-02-20*

I have played this game so many times. I love the gameplay loop, and how I can set it down at any moment and my character won’t die. I wish they would update the graphics for newer phones though; some if it is a bit blurry now that I’m looking at it on an OLED screen. Also, I would LOVE to see a sequel, or a new game with a similar mechanic.

Great work, y’all!

### 5/5 — I keep coming back to this game!

*2022-11-18, version 1.0.10*

For a casual old school RPG adventure game, I cannot recommend this one more highly. The game involves chance and permakills. If that’s not your bag, skip this one. For me, it just makes those rare victories all the sweeter. Game Stew is one of the most unrated dev groups I know. All of their stuff is perfect for ios.

### 5/5 — Best phone game I’ve ever played

*2021-10-21, version 1.0.9*

I’ve played this game many times, and will probably play it many more. It’s perfect for phones, because at any moment you can set it down and it saves your place. The gameplay has a good pace, and the sound/music is great. I always play as the wizard, and it saves my skin having two dice and being a woman. I only wish there were more games like this.

### 5/5 — Good and simple gameplay with variations

*2021-09-26*

Love simple games with deeper stories or things to incover

### 5/5 — Really a good game!

*2021-04-28, version 1.0.8*

If you take the time to figure it out, this really is a good game. Game Stew nailed it this time! I only wish there had been some kind of short tutorial. It can be frustrating to learn with no direction. Glad I took the time!

### 5/5 — 全てが好き

*2020-11-19*

雰囲気含め全てが好きです

### 5/5 — The best!

*2020-10-28*

Favorite developer, favorite games. Please keep making these great Game Boy colored games! Thank you!

### 5/5 — Awesome Legacy

*2019-05-22*

Ancient Legacy feels like a simple but fun rogue board game. The experience is enjoyable, the game play is intuitive, and I’m looking forward to endless fun playing this game.
