### 2/5 — VERY out of date app

*2019-06-29, version 1.18.43*

The app has not been updated in two years and it shows.

### 2/5 — Bug Fix, Please?

*2018-04-10, version 1.18.43*

Content from AO is always wonderful, application itself is not well-developed. I used to read articles on the app almost daily before it started freezing up on me and would never load. I kept the app hoping for bug fixes, but finally had to delete it today after a year of not being able to use it.

### 1/5 — Still doesnt work

*2018-01-20, version 1.18.43*

I downloaded this ap over a year ago and couldnt get past the home screen. No menu, no support, just freezes. I thought wth must be better by now.. and still doesnt work. The articles on Ancient Origins are fantastic it is very unfortunate that their tech support or web developer doesnt care. Dont waste your time on this ap.

### 1/5 — Downloaded App & It Does Absolutely Nothing

*2017-12-30, version 1.18.43*

Nothing happens when you tap the launch screen. Complete waste.

### 1/5 — it doesn't work!

*2017-12-12, version 1.18.43*

ugh. so curious to see it too!🙁

### 1/5 — App

*2017-12-11, version 1.18.43*

Live the content of your site. Deleted the app today. Ad for spectrum pops up immediately whenever I try to read an article.
Please fix.

### 1/5 — Great potential

*2017-10-27, version 1.18.43*

This app has Wonderful potential, but simply does not work. It won’t load past the opening screen, and previous versions have been glitchy, slow, and randomly redirect to spam. This is such a waste on what could really be a great app if someone cared enough to make it work properly.

### 1/5 — Nothing

*2017-10-08, version 1.18.43*

The app opens and does nothing.

### 3/5 — Buggy.

*2017-09-04, version 1.18.43*

Too hard to even read an article with the intrusive ads. I get it but come on! If the only way to read your stuff is by purchasing... forget it. One more update and we'll see.

### 1/5 — Good content, terrible App

*2017-08-30, version 1.18.43*

It doesn't work, don't waste your time. Go to the website instead.

### 1/5 — FROZEN!!!!!

*2017-08-26*

When the new app up date came out in April, I can't get passed opening screen, on either my iPhone or iPad. They need to fix this app fast or they'll be losing another user totally....

### 1/5 — Won't open

*2017-08-11, version 1.18.43*

The app is frozen it will not open at all I keep deleting it and adding it back on again and nothing it's not working
 FIX IT !!!

### 1/5 — The wee little spinning circle

*2017-08-06, version 1.18.43*

Open the app to the page and the 'load indicator' just spins, spins, spins, and spins.

### 1/5 — Sad

*2017-07-09, version 1.18.43*

I used to really enjoy this app. Suddenly nothing works. Can't even get it to open.

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2017-06-22, version 1.18.43*

I agree; the app is terrible. The web site works fine. Though any item paid for by pop up or bottom of page ads makes reading more difficult.

### 1/5 — Used to terrific now it will not load it's a shame

*2017-06-20, version 1.18.43*

The update wrecked the app

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Ugly. Too small font.

*2021-04-09, version 2.2*

The font size is sooooo small and there’s no option to change it. And it links to weird pages. It’s really cumbersome to use. Y’all should just try again and scrap this junk. BYW I am a paying customer

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2020-04-04, version 1.18.43*

As others have mentioned, the articles are written at the middle school level and completely overlaid with advertisements. To the point where is nearly impossible to scroll down a single page before a redirect takes place. The app is simply a tool for click-bait.

### 1/5 — Trash

*2019-01-03, version 1.18.43*

After I tapped on a story, notification about it setting cookies came up. I could not tap that I agree because an ad quickly came and overlapped preventing me from doing so. It tried collapsing the app, then bringing it up, no difference. Next, I deleted, then reinstalled the app. Worse yet, the entire screen went black after opening the app. After I collapsed the app, I deleted it. I don’t know whether you app is incompatible with the latest iOS or has been affected by malware or both; but, it has ceased to be usable. I will try your website, instead.

### 1/5 — Zero stars 12-21-18

*2018-12-21, version 1.18.43*

I read the reviews and installed anyway thinking maybe they addressed reported issues- nope, needs a Zero star rating!
Uninstalled after ten minutes, popup mini-video kept opening to a black, blank screen that played with nothing on it and could not even read one article...
goodbye and good riddance

### 1/5 — Ancient Origins Crashes

*2018-11-05, version 1.18.43*

Ancient Origins crashes on my iPad. Please fix. I am running IOS 12.1. Thanks.

### 1/5 — Won’t even load

*2018-06-19, version 1.18.43*

So excited for this app but sadly it won’t load at all. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. Very disappointed

### 1/5 — Help

*2018-05-29, version 1.18.43*

I downloaded the app and it shows the front page. That’s it! No options to do anything, look at articles, nothing. Is the app disabled at this point?

### 1/5 — What happened?

*2018-04-03, version 1.18.43*

I got the newsfeed for several years and looked forward every Tuesday to enjoying articles. Then one day the newsfeed stopped working. I have since tried to resubscribe and also to subscribe under different email accounts. But nothing works. So got the app for iPad and also for iPhone. When I launch it, the splash screen comes up and then either freezes or crashes???
This was a really good source for archeology news. Too bad.

### 1/5 — Why?

*2018-03-24, version 1.18.43*

Doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — Won’t go past title screen

*2018-03-17, version 1.18.43*

Stays on the title screen. Too bad it’s a good website

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great update

*2020-10-26, version 2.2*

This app is now really easy to navigate and a lot more pleasing to the eye. I’ve never had problems with it but now it’s not basic and really stands out. Great content. Really interesting. Thanks

### 5/5 — I took a chance, so should you.

*2020-07-27, version 2.1*

I recently discovered their website & love it.
Decided to take a chance on this app due to the most recent review being positive.
Absolutely worth it!
Pages and especially images look fantastic on my phone.
There are two main sections, Latest or Most Read.
There are also several categories like Artifacts, Ancient Places, Unsolved, and more including one for Opinions.
It seems to me there are more articles available through the app, although that may just be due to how easy it is to browse compared to the website.
Previous 1 & 2 Star reviews had complained about excessive Ads.
The only Ads I have seen is a half inch tall static banner across the bottom of my screen.

### 5/5 — Great app so far

*2020-07-03, version 2.0*

Downloaded app in may of 2020 - obviously in spite of all the pretty negative reviews and honestly can’t understand where they all came from. I have an iphone 11, and had this before a major update was dloaded and app has worked perfectly and seamlessly throughout. Not sure if these are older fixed issues or some other angle is being put forth - but I would personally highly recommend this and have. Articles are wide-ranging and interesting, can’t agree with comments that these are on an eighth grade level either. At any rate, just my opinion but I’m very pleased overall.

### 5/5 — Review

*2017-06-05, version 1.18.43*

I use the Safari browser and not the App and never have problems pulling up all of the articles in each section. The adds are no more problematic than any other site. The articles are so interesting and diverse that I anticipate each new installment eagerly.

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2017-04-25, version 1.18.43*

It's a great approach at casting light upon our vast and complex history.
It stirs our curiosity, challenges our understanding of the past and invites us to explore further on our own.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2017-04-05, version 1.18.33*

Great App

### 5/5 — Exceptional app 🌟

*2017-04-04, version 1.18.33*

A great, very informative app. Love the articles. I highly recommend it!

### 5/5 — Excellent world views!

*2017-04-03, version 1.18.33*

At 65, I've been reading Ancient Origins articles for 50 years. Years ago it was hard to find printed literature written by people with open minds. I find this App to be one of the very best available today. It gives us perspectives on many and varied historical info from what we once knew only as myths and legends. I can certainly understand why those, whose lives are based strictly upon their religious beliefs, might find these stories offensive; perhaps they need to open their minds and stop having tunnel vision. I once read that God gives us the ability to learn and make choices; I certainly like knowledge, it sets me free!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2017-04-03, version 1.18.33*

Really like the app. The content is amazing. New and interesting articles every day.

### 5/5 — Eclectic Amazing

*2017-04-03, version 1.18.33*

I have been a frequent visitor to the Ancient Origins site for years and thoroughly enjoy their rich mixture of information, ideas, arcana, off-beat stories, photos, videos and seminars. I've witnessed their site grow and mature with over time and I visit almost daily. AO is a valuable stimulant to both curiosity and wonder. The site often provides a vibrant counterpoint to the standard issue dogma that we've received as students of anthropology, history, theology and archaeology; and it dares with equal measures of caution and bravado to bring something entirely fresh to the table. I don't always agree with the theories and conclusions of their large network of contributors, but I certainly applaud their diligence and determination to create and make available to the general pubic a seemingly vast repository of eclectic, alternative, historical, mythological, weird, wonderful, etc. materials related to our past. Now that they've created an app, that very entertaining and stimulating daily tour is several degrees easier. I highly recommend Ancient Origins' app—it is yet another means for entrance into a growing library of pure wonder!
