## What is Andrea?

Andrea Reader is an ebook, comic, manga, manhua, webtoon and PDF reader for iPhone and iPad.

A local-first reading library for your own DRM-free files: no account, no sign-up, no ads. Import your books, organize them your way, and read with deep customization across formats.

COLLECTIONS & SECTIONS

Create collections with their own name, color, cover and layout. Add nested collections, sort, filter, reorder and resize your library with pinch gestures.

Inside each collection, create Sections: movable, collapsible blocks with their own name and color. Drag books in and out, reorder sections between books, and shape every saga, reading list or archive exactly how you want. Each collection saves its own appearance and settings.

POWERFUL READING

Open a book and start reading immediately with automatic settings by format, or create your own reading profiles and apply them per book or per collection.

Adjust gestures, page transitions, margins, spacing, brightness, full screen, scrolling, double page mode, right-to-left manga reading, PDF/comic fit options and more.

IMPORT & STORAGE

- EPUB, PDF, CBZ, CBR, ZIP, RAR, 7Z, CB7, TAR and CBT
- Import from Files, local storage, iTunes/Finder file sharing or cable connection
- Quick Read: open a file without importing it
- Scan physical pages and create digital books
- Extract compressed archives with books inside
- Connect to iCloud, OPDS, WebDAV, SMB and SFTP
- Download multiple books, choose the target collection and section, and manage local/remote storage

CUSTOMIZATION

Make Andrea feel like your library, not a generic file list.

Choose grid, list or showcase layouts, customize book cards, covers, thumbnails, progress display, colors, themes, Zen Mode, top shortcut icons, status bar behavior and collection history. The interface can follow each collection's color or stay clean and global.

STATS & PROGRESS

Reading stats are tracked quietly in the background while you read.

See progress, sessions, time spent reading, speed, streaks and more at three levels: per book, per section and per collection. Clean charts turn your reading activity into something easy to understand.

READER TOOLS

- OCR selection and translation
- EPUB highlights
- Favorite pages for comics, manga and webtoons
- Reader widgets for progress, brightness, chapters and favorites
- View Covers: high-resolution cover gallery
- Edit books: reorder or remove comic pages and adjust structure
- Omnibus: merge multiple comics or books into one volume
- Smart Rename: clean messy filenames with regex rules and live preview
- Compress books and folders into CBZ/ZIP archives

WORLD LIBRARY

Discover and download free public-domain books inside Andrea. Browse a visual cover mosaic, search by title or author, filter by language or genre, and send EPUBs directly to the collection you choose.

Andrea Reader is for people who love to build, shape and inhabit their own digital library.

Your collections, sections and books.
Your small, well-governed kingdom.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.6 — 2026-08-29

NEW IN ANDREA READER

- Widgets. Andrea's first ones: your daily reading goal, a heat map of the months you have read, your progress chart, and a card for the last book you opened that takes you straight back to it. Home Screen and Lock Screen.

- Genres of your own. Create your own types with a name, an icon and a colour, and apply them to a whole collection, to a single section, or book by book. Every genre gets its own share and its own screen in Activity, so you can finally see how much manga, how much comics and how many books you have actually read.

- Your covers, in 3D. The cover editor has been rebuilt: the book turns a full 360 degrees, follows your finger, and its spine thickens with the page count. Front and back cover are edited separately.

- A daily reading goal. Set the minutes you want to read each day and watch a half-moon fill up. The whole week is tappable: each day tells you how much you read and, if you fell short, by how much.

- Activity, rebuilt. Every bar carries its number, the average line is labelled, and Your evolution comes as bars, a line or an area. Open any month to find the books you read with their covers, the split by format, your sessions, the hours you read most, and how it compares to the month before. Every format also gets its own screen.

- Long downloads without watching them. A Live Activity tracks progress on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island while downloads carry on in the background.

- Share what matters: the day, the week, the month, the year or everything, plus your streak, your goal, and your saved quotes and words.

BUG FIXES

- Comic double page: wide pages are shown alone again instead of duplicated, page turns work with the slide and curl effects, and selecting text no longer turns the page. It also uses far less memory.
- OCR in comics no longer shows the system menu on top of Andrea's own.
- The import button no longer stops responding after a tip appears and closes, and its info button now explains the option instead of closing the whole view.
- Importing into a specific section now honours the section you chose.
- Background downloads: the progress card opens by tapping anywhere on it, the Live Activity no longer gets stuck when the app is closed, and collections fill in new covers as books arrive.
- Freed-up books keep their covers in the collection cover picker, are marked immediately, and no longer turn their back cover into a copy of the front.
- Renaming books no longer duplicates them in the cover picker.
- The synced iCloud folder keeps its name, brings covers along, and its books open properly.
- Suwayomi chapters can now be downloaded, and uppercase file extensions are recognised on import.
- Turning the reading widgets off applies to the whole book, not just the current page.
- Fixes for iPhone: Activity cards and the search tip are no longer cut off, the library grid no longer misaligns after reading in landscape, and tapping the top bar no longer scrolls a collection back to the start.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-08-19

NEW IN ANDREA READER

A brand new Activity screen
History is now just one part of it. See your reading in numbers (time, pages, pace, books finished), month by month charts and a heat map, reading and visit streaks, the progress of every collection and section, and the words you looked up and the quotes you saved. Your full history is still one tap away.

Notes, quotes and stickers from any highlight
Select text to highlight it, write a note or save a quote, all from the same menu. In comics and manga you can crop an area of the page and attach a note to it, or turn that crop into a sticker and save it to your system stickers to use in any app.

Unlimited sticky notes
Stick as many notes as you like on each page: drag them, send them to the back or delete them. There is also a settings section just for highlights, and a clearer view of a book's highlights.

All your notes in one list
Browse the notes and highlights of a book, a section or a whole collection in order, and export them in Markdown and other formats.

Link a folder instead of importing book by book
Open a folder, tap Open, and it syncs into Andrea whole, with its subfolders exactly as they are. Nothing is copied, so it takes up no space, and remote books download with a single tap when you want to read them.

iCloud backup
Save your settings, colours, servers and recent paths, and restore them if you reinstall the app. Passwords stay in the keychain.

Native sidebar on iPad
A system style side menu to move around your collections, iPad only for now. Turn it on in General settings; the classic menu is still available.

Real time AI upscaling
Upscale any comic or manga page while you read with a tap in the top left, now using far fewer resources.

Traditional Chinese added
Andrea Reader is now available in 14 languages.

BUG FIXES

- Opening a file Andrea does not recognise no longer blocks opening other books afterwards.
- Files Andrea does not recognise, such as .mobi, can now be deleted with a long press.
- Highlights take you back to their exact page again, even after changing the font or the pagination.
- The first page of a book or chapter now highlights properly.
- In EPUB, the selection menu no longer disappears when you lift your finger quickly.
- Words split with a hyphen are now looked up correctly in the dictionary.
- Fixed the odd coloured strip at the top during the launch animation.
- Better connections to OPDS servers (Komga, Kavita, Stump, Calibre), with URL examples to connect directly.
- Komga now shows all the files on the server.
- Free up everything in a collection now really offloads every book back to iCloud.
- Books removed from a collection no longer keep showing in the fan view.
- The bookmarks menu now uses neutral colours instead of the collection colour.
- The storage view warns in red when files are missing.
- Quick read on iPhone is no longer see through.
- On small iPhones, the left side menu now closes all the way.
- A deep translation pass across all 14 languages: around 90 texts appeared in Spanish or English and now show in your language, and clipped text in French is fixed.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-08-02

- Read like a real book. Double page mode now follows the layout of a printed book: the first and last pages stand alone, with true spreads in between. Landscape pages are shown on their own and no longer get split or paired incorrectly.
- Double page for EPUB. A first experimental version, free for everyone.
- Tap a highlight to edit it. Change its color or delete it from a popover, in EPUB, PDF and comics, including continuous scrolling and double page. Highlighting itself is also far more reliable and precise.
- Reworked reading settings. Native menus, no more cut-off text and much clearer navigation.
- Hyphenation in EPUB. A new option breaks words with a hyphen at the end of a line for more even margins.

- Polish is now available.

BUG FIXES

- Pages no longer keep flipping on their own after using the volume buttons or jumping to a chapter.
- In EPUB, "see all pages" no longer shows the cover on every page and loads much faster.
- Widgets no longer get in the way when highlighting, and tapping the center opens the reading menu instead of turning the page.

- The manual order of books inside a section is saved and kept after refreshing.
- Books are easier to drag between sections, all sections can be reopened after collapsing them, and the minimalist view no longer jumps.
- The "view covers" gallery scrolls smoothly, even with offloaded files.
- Covers of offloaded files no longer disappear inside collections.
- A file downloaded from a server keeps its link, so the download can be removed later.
- ZIP files imported from a server now detect the books inside, and unsupported files get a better icon.
- The menu that switches the collection view opens and closes faster in large collections.
- Leaving the reading menu is smoother in all three readers.
- The reading profiles sheet closes smoothly when you swipe it away.
- The page count updates in real time when deleting pages while editing a book or building an omnibus.

- Closing a book that was reopened automatically at launch no longer makes the interface jump back into place.
- A tip appearing on screen no longer dismisses the book that opens automatically at launch.
- Tips can no longer interfere with the reader or any other view opened on top of them.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-07-26

NEW IN ANDREA READER

- Double-page mode, rebuilt. Landscape pages now show on their own, centered, instead of being squeezed into a spread. Zoom frames the full spread by default, page-turn transitions are respected, and you can adjust the spine between pages (spacing, thickness and color). Full screen keeps the image proportion without deforming it, and the reader can switch to double-page automatically when you rotate to landscape.

- Sharper images. A new image rescaler for comics and manga with x2 and x4 upscaling and four processing modes: Lanczos, bicubic, sharpen lines and clean scan. It also includes an experimental AI super-resolution that can turn very low-quality images into high-definition ones. Image-based EPUBs are now handled as images, with thumbnails in the reading menu.

- Reading stats when you close a book. When you finish or close a book, a quick prompt now appears showing the book you just read, with a button to jump straight to its individual reading stats and details.

- Improved reading controls. Fine-tune what each tap does (advance or go back depending on the side) and use the volume buttons to turn pages. The auto page-turn play/pause control is now cleaner and sized to match the widget.

- Collections, sections and bookmarks. See all the bookmarks of a collection or a section in one place, with each book, its cover and its bookmarks. You can set a specific photo as a book cover, and the limit on collections and files is now much higher. The progress widget is now free, and there's a black app icon with a new icon style selector in General Settings.

- iCloud. Uploading to iCloud now automatically reconnects and re-creates the app folder if it went missing, and clearly warns you when iCloud isn't available. A new "Reset iCloud connection" option is available in Settings; it's safe and never deletes your books.

- Experimental reading mode. Read a page in color first, then tap to switch it to black and white (manga style) before moving on.

BUG FIXES

- The file picker no longer closes by itself when importing from your device.

- The reader no longer closes on its own when a tip appears underneath it.

- Reading-menu thumbnails now show correctly in EPUB image mode.

- Fixed lag and duplicate covers when browsing covers inside a collection.

- Books offloaded to iCloud no longer lose their cover.

- Fixed a crash when searching inside PDFs.

- Scrolling stays smooth after switching books from the reader, including after dragging or opening the reading menu.

- Comic and PDF pages now re-fit in real time when you rotate the device in double-page mode.

- The startup animation stripe colors now match correctly.

- Improved the fan collection style, with better performance and correct curvature.

- Polished the collection info sheet on iPhone with clearer titles and separators.
