## What is Anecnote?

Anecnote: Your Personal Note-Taking Companion and Memory Manager

Unlock the power of Anecnote, the ultimate note-taking and management app designed for anyone who wants to capture their memories, quotes, advice, reviews, anecdotes, and more. Whether you’re journaling your travels, documenting personal experiences, storing interesting trivia or simply keeping track of important notes, Anecnote provides the flexibility and features you need. Its real superpower is being able to 'surface' your notes when you need them via the use of our powerful filtering system (called Smart views). It is the ultimate aide-memoire!

FLEXIBLE NOTE MANAGEMENT

Create notes for any and every purpose — memories, reviews, travelogues, journal entries, facts and more. Customise each note with relevant metadata to suit your needs:
• Categories: Classify your notes by type (e.g., review, memory, anecdote, fact, trivia, journal).

• Area: Contextualise your notes by assigning it an area (e.g. home, work, family, personal).

• People: Tag individuals related to your notes for easy reference.

• Source: If the content of the note is from a particular person (or website) then you can add that info in too
• Tags: Add unlimited tags to describe your notes' content and subject matter.

• Starred: Mark any note with a star to quickly add to a favourites list
• Action required: Mark any note as needing some kind of action and it will show up in a Todo list of notes

You can use as many or as few of these as you want/need to describe your notes. And if these default labels don't suit you can even change them to words that better relate to your use cases / language.

SMART VIEWS

Effortlessly filter your notes using built-in smart views (All Notes, Starred Items, Todos) or create Custom views tailored exactly to your needs. All of your added metadata is available for filtering purposes so you can create advanced filters to show just what you need. For example, view all Reviews for Movies with a 5-star rating or list all memories that involve your daughter etc. The options are endless!

STREAMLINED READING

Enjoy a distraction-free reading experience in any Smart View with the ability to view all note content at once, hiding metadata all metadata for a clean look.

CUSTOM URL SCHEME

Add notes from anywhere using the custom url scheme. For example you could use Shortcuts app to build prompts that ask you about your day that will create the all of the required content for a daily journal entry that gets automatically added to Anecnote. There are urls to create and open notes.

IN-APP PURCHASING OPTIONS

Unlock the full potential of Anecnote with our flexible in-app purchasing options:
•	Free Tier: Create up to 10 notes and 1 custom smart view.

### 5/5 — Worth the purchase!

*2026-04-16*

Love the app - bought the lifetime and use it all the time! But, I really wish you could search by tags! Custom views are great - would like custom created lists to be first followed by the default section. UI is beautiful and definitely worth the lifetime purchase.

**Developer response:** Thanks a lot for your review. If you enable markdown in settings you can make text **bold** etc. Driver for the app though was to keep things as clean and simple as possible. As such am in 2 minds about images. They are on my radar though.

I have seen the scroll issue you mention. Haven’t been able to fix as of yet but it is on my list. EDIT: 1.0.5 should have fixed this issue.

### 5/5 — Simple and Clean

*2026-01-10*

Trying to find a good, simple quick notes app these days is almost impossible. Everything is AI, overly bloated all-in-ones that boast being your journal, habit tracker, to-do list, calendar, Pomo, voice, summarizer, lots of analyses and statistics….etc!! I get lost in all of that when all I want is an app to keep a variety of simple notes from noting which coffees I like, to event activity fees, to other random, short things to notate.

Anecnote is nearly the perfect app for me - simple but beautiful note layout, easily seeing your note’s tag, category, title, and date without it being overwhelming or taking up too much space. I love that categories are on top, and not folder style along a sidebar.

I do wish there were a few textual options, like bold or color options, and the ability to add an image or 2 for things like adding a screenshot of important info that I don’t want to have to copy the textual information. However, not sure how much this would interfere with the apps simplicity and the compact view of all notes.

Trying out this app and one other app before deciding on a purchase, but my initial reaction is that Anecnote will ultimately win out. ETA: the iOS app (iOS 26) is slightly glitchy. When I put the curser in a spot to add to text, the screen automatically goes back to the top of the note and I have to scroll back down to get to where I want to add text.

### 5/5 — Wow!!

*2025-07-07, version 1.0.3*

Absolutely brilliant app!! Highly recommend as it’s so easy to use and couldn’t live without it!!

### 5/5 — Great for organising

*2025-06-04, version 1.0.2*

This app is a hidden gem for those that take/keep a lot of notes. Much more functionality than the built in OS app.

### 5/5 — Exceptional Developer

*2025-06-02*

Dr Marshall is one of the most innovative and responsive developers I know of. He’s also redefined web development via his exceptional 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦 framework used in conjunction with TheStacksPlugin for the macOS web development app RapidWeaver (RW), which led to RW completely changing its architecture — and entire business model. Dr Marshall really does know how to shake the habitual, kind of like an earthquake but actually a tsunami. Expect the same with 𝘈𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘦, which is why I bought the lifetime license.

### 5/5 — Wonderful for the organising

*2025-06-01, version 1.0.1*

If you are one of those people that breaks down a massive task into smaller tasks this app is great for it. Likewise it’s great for day to day tasks and the layout is simple and clutter free.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-05-25, version 1.0*

Easy to use and categorise things for quick access later
