## What is Animalog?

That “pigeon” on the pavement is a spotted dove. The ducks with glossy green heads in the park pond are mallards.
Animalog helps you put a name to every animal you meet, and keeps them in a field guide of your own.

SNAP IT, KNOW IT
Take a photo and find out what it is in seconds: its common name, scientific name, and how common or rare it is.

YOUR OWN FIELD GUIDE
Everything you collect is sorted by class and order, with a short profile, calls, range and reference photos. Rarity is drawn as five little bottles that fill up as you collect.

SPECIAL MOMENTS
Eating, napping, with a baby, having a soak: collect the different moments of each species, too.

FOUR COMPANIONS, ONE ISLAND
Baobao, Tata, Tuntun and Naying the very loud cockatoo each live in their own corner of the island. Animals you have met drop by their door, and your travel companion writes you letters about the places you have been together.

A LITTLE GALLERY OF YOUR OWN
A book of seals and a Book of Cities on the shelf, a calendar and a specimen frame on the wall, a globe with glowing orbs on the desk. Plus hidden achievements for the solar terms, festivals, seasons in both hemispheres and the first time you reach somewhere new.

TURN SIGHTINGS INTO CARDS
Big photo, postcard, stamp, doodle, letter: make a card worth sharing.

WITH FRIENDS
Add friends, start a group and see what everyone has met lately.

Your photos are private by default. Location is only used to note where you met each animal.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.8 — 2026-10-30

- Companion Island: your companions live in different corners of an island, each with its own drift bottle; animals you've photographed drop by their door and share a little secret
- Meet Naying, a loud and very dramatic sulphur-crested cockatoo who lives in the tallest tree on the island
- A drift bottle next to your floating companion takes you straight to the island
- More kinds of letters: a wander, a trip away, "a few months ago today", congratulations, and chats about animals you've met. Browse letters by kind and share any letter as a letter card
- Rarity tiers are now five hand-drawn bottles in Morandi colours; the more you collect, the higher the water rises
- Achievements redesigned: public achievements show how far you are and how to unlock them, with new four-week weekday and weekend streaks; hidden achievements for the 24 solar terms, seasons in each hemisphere, and places you've been
- The achievement gallery is now a little room: a book of seals and a Book of Cities on the shelf, a calendar and a specimen frame on the wall, a globe with glowing orbs on the desk. Tap anything to see what you have lit up
- New festival achievements: Lunar New Year, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat, Qixi, Mid-Autumn, Double Ninth, Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas
- Share your profile as a card: avatar, name, species collected, days out and your rarity tiers
- Place names now consistently use Simplified Chinese

### 1.7 — 2026-10-28

- A brand-new app icon: a curious little seal peeking into the lens
- Meet your travel companions: Baobao the seal, Daidai the kangaroo, Tata the sea otter and Tuntun the capybara, each with its own personality. Pick one to come along. It floats over the app, says different things on different pages, can be dragged anywhere, and can be turned off on your account page
- Your companion writes you letters: a weekly review, collection milestones, and animals you've met dropping by to play. All past letters are kept
- Redesigned species pages: Collection, Field guide and Range tabs; the field guide covers looks, habits and little secrets; a range map; and related animals it interacts with
- Your dex now shows only the animals you've collected, grouped by class, by date (year, month, week) or by where you found them, with collapsible sections
- New Explore page: see which animals nearby, in the wild or at the zoo, you haven't collected yet
- Rarity tiers: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Scarce, Elusive
- Seven share card styles, including Photo × Illustration: your photo with a draggable polaroid sticker of the animal
- Navigation: Achievements gets its own tab; Groups and Friends are now one Social tab
- Fixed some Chinese species names that displayed incorrectly

### 1.6 — 2026-10-21

- Achievements now come with titles, from Animal Rookie and Animal Lover all the way up to Zoologist. Your first animal of each kind earns its own title, like Birdwatcher or Bug Hunter, and new achievements count the countries and cities you've collected in
- Four share card styles to choose from: Artsy, Playful (colored pencil), Minimal (line art) and Meme. Every style lets you change the colors, caption, font, signature and QR code, and turn the animal stamp on or off
- A cleaner commemorative stamp card for achievements, with a big sparrow watermark
- Adding a photo straight from a species page now explains what will happen and checks the photo with recognition first
- A short guide on first launch covers photo recognition, stamp titles and adding photos; you can reopen it from your account page
- Fixed some hard-to-read text over photos and in light themes

### 1.5 — 2026-10-02

- Your home page is now a stamp calendar: on every day you met an animal, an ink stamp of that kind of animal marks the date. Tap it to look back at what you found. Holidays and the solstices and equinoxes are marked too
- Achievement badges are now colorful ink stamps: a sparrow for your first bird, a kangaroo for Australia, and bigger animals as your collection grows
- Redesigned themes: each of the nine has its own colors, heading font and little home-page scene, including a new black-and-white ink theme and a sandy desert theme
- New "Big photo" share card style that shows your photo as it is, with no filter
- A new app icon: a sparrow stamp

### 1.4 — 2026-09-30

- Brand-new share cards in five styles: torn collage, photo × print, sticker postcard, commemorative stamp and travel journal; your photo is painted as a watercolor or a print
- A card is ready as soon as you tap Share. Save it in one tap, or fine-tune the layout, color scheme, font (serif, light serif, handwriting, brush) and signature (name or profile photo)
- Drag and pinch right on the card to frame your photo; choose sizes for the artwork, text and signature; tap Shuffle for a fresh look
- Add a line of text: a random classic poem, English quote or haiku (picked to match the animal when possible), your own words, or nothing at all
- Achievement cards turn the photo that unlocked them into a stamp
- Accept or decline friend requests and group invites right from your messages
