## What is Animi?

Are you struggling with emotions? Do you find it difficult to connect with others? You're not alone. Every 1 in 10 people has alexithymia - difficulty, or inability to identify, understand, and express emotions. And it’s even more prevalent among neurodivergent people (autism, ADHD,...).

Animi is a free app (currently only in English) with some optional premium extra features that helps you learn about your emotions, understand their causes, manage them effectively, and over time figure out your patterns. Like an evidence-based emotion coach utilizing the latest research on alexithymia and emotion regulation, Animi is designed to improve alexithymia, emotional awareness, and emotional intelligence, and over time help you build emotional vocabulary and understand the nuances of hundreds of feelings and emotions.

- Take an alexithymia test and learn your alexithymia score, indicating how severely you are disconnected from your emotions

- Identify & log your emotions with the help of one of our emotion wheel like tools (on a much more detailed and granular level than other emotion trackers)

- Understand the meaning, causes, and symptoms of emotions with the help of our emotion encyclopedia

- Experience quick breathing techniques to regulate emotions (like cyclic physiological sighing, bhastrika, or resonance breathing)

- Learn how to communicate emotions in a productive way

- Journal about your emotions with the help of introspective, reflective prompts

- Get daily notifications to check in with yourself and build a streak

With our optional Premium subscription, you'll also get access to:

- 100-lesson, 3-month daily evidence-based Emotions 101 course designed specifically to address alexithymia by teaching a productive mindset about emotions, interoception, and emotion schemas

- Optional AI-enhanced features including guided identification & processing chat workflows, knowledge base search & LLM-generated journal insights

- Cross-device user accounts and data backups to sync data on phone & browser

- Advanced analytics, including the ability to filter logged journals with multiple filters and extract useful insights from unique charts

And over the longer period of using the app:

- Reduce your alexithymia score

- Improve your relationships

- Enhance your mental health and even physical health

Download Animi now and start your self-care journey today!

Sample of user reviews:

- The app is in my opinion much better than emotion wheels as there is so much more details/information.
- This was far more informative than talking with a therapist for an hour to figure out what I'm feeling, so I would recommend it.
- Very helpful! Feel like the tool has allowed me to regulate even when having very distressing emotions through understanding.

Disclaimer: Animi is incorporated as a public benefit corporation with a mission to build a solution that improves alexithymia, and that's also why we collect the anonymized alexithymia test data, so we know whether the app succeeds at it. Your sensitive journal data stays on the device by default. It can be stored on our server for cross-device sync only with your opt-in explicit permission after enabling that feature. By default we are only collecting metadata necessary to evaluate the effectiveness and improve the app, though you can opt-in to share more detailed data for research and creation of future helpful content. We don't share the data with any third-parties nor sell it or use it for any kind of advertisement.

### 4/5 — Great potential

*2026-07-20, version 1.6.2*

Good app, I just wish you could edit/delete mood entries.

### 5/5 — So helpful, genuinely excellent

*2026-06-12, version 1.5.0*

I don’t have ASD as far as I know. But I do have (x diagnoses) I need to take care of. I’ve just started using this app but it’s already so helpful. I find the journaling feature and emotion cards helpful. I personally clicked on every (I) indicator I saw and pushed myself to read. It seems to be built on real therapeutic concepts. I noticed a change in myself reading, logging, and engaging with the tools. I’m really grateful 💗

I think the other review is a bit mean, I’d ignore that.

### 5/5 — Transformative

*2026-04-11, version 1.5.0*

My therapist recommended this app to me because I told him I was terrible at sensing and labeling my emotions. I’m so grateful he introduced me to this app, and I recommend it to people all the time. I started slowly, but I found that the more often I used it, the easier it became. But what really changed things was taking the embedded course. I’m only a third of the way through and it has honestly changed my life. I’m now better able to sense how I’m feeling and address it instead of spiraling or allowing my emotions to control my day. If more people learned how to do this early on in life, I think it would change everything. I can’t recommend this app enough.

### 5/5 — It helped me understand myself

*2026-03-06, version 1.4.7*

My girlfriend recommends it

### 5/5 — Therapist recommended resource

*2025-09-09, version 1.2.0*

My therapist recommended this to me for autistic/neurodivergent people and I have been using it for a year 👍🏼

### 4/5 — !!!

*2025-09-08, version 1.2.0*

the only time i have ever felt compelled to leave a review on the app store because it feels like this app was actually made for me. four stars because the videos lack closed captioning, but the app felt surprisingly easy to understand, and it's the only form of mood journaling i've been able to meaningfully do. i told my roommate about this app, i told my therapist about this app, i told my mom about this app, i can't shut up about how much it's helping me.

### 5/5 — 5 stars even with suggestions

*2025-08-18, version 1.1.0*

I notice very little use of this app. Please get funding for an advertising campaign. It’s amazing. It really helps so much. Thank you.

Ok so suggestion:

After all those amazing processing prompts getting me to an amazing place at the end.. the historical record is of my first statement. If it can only be one I’d prefer access to the very last thing which tends to be so preciously helpful and a hard-fought win. The first statement tends to be the struggle one.. the last statement is the victorious take-away.

Thanks.

### 5/5 — Great tool

*2025-02-23, version 1.1.0*

I’ve found this really useful right away and am looking forward to seeing if it can help me understand what I am feeling more naturally over time. It’s been really intuitive to use, and so helpful to draw out precise words for emotions from the mapping exercises.

### 5/5 — Great for understanding emotions

*2024-12-16, version 1.1.0*

I've had this app for about 3 weeks, and my Alexithymia score is down from about 100 to 65 and I can definitely tell a massive difference in my understanding of my emotions. Lots of great features and overall an amazing app for tackling alexithymia. Thank you for making this app free and ad free!

### 5/5 — Thank Goodness I Found This

*2024-10-04, version 1.1.0*

This app is the best thing to ever happen to me, no joke. Without going into too much detail, I had a pretty rough childhood with lots of emotional neglect, among other things. I’ve been in and out of therapy and though it’s helped with a lot, figuring out how to connect my mind to my body in a safe way has not been the easiest process. When I learned about Alexithymia, I felt like I had finally found a loose thread that I could pull to unravel decades worth of things I couldn’t quite verbalize. That, alone, was a big help in my healing, but it was complete happen-chance that I found this app. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the work that’s gone into creating something so extremely beneficial like this! It’s so simple, yet so thorough. I can wax poetic about emotions all day, but actually sensing them physically and knowing what to do with that does not compute to my brain. The glossary and physical sensation sections have really helped increase my awareness with these things. I feel like I finally have a link between these parts of myself that I’ve been struggling to find my whole life! I’m so so happy to have this to rely on when I can’t make sense of anything going on with me, it’s the biggest relief ever. I’ve already shared it with several people in my life, and I hope more people find out about it because it’s a great way to learn/relearn emotions and healthy ways to embrace them. I’m so so thankful I found this!

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6.3 — 2026-07-21

This update includes further stability fixes, which should result in fewer crashes and better performance. It also fixes a bug that made part of Emotion Canvas appear blank when the Reduce Motion device setting was enabled.

### 1.6.2 — 2026-07-20

This update fixes some crashes and should significantly improve performance and fix some unintended performance degradations, particularly regarding emotion cards, and the emotion canvas, which also comes with further usability and styling improvements.
