It looks alien, but it’s only a wavetable scanner. The special bit is that you get 8 wavetables at once in a crossfading matrix. It’ll take a day or two to really get it in your head that the 3D display is just 3 extra LFOs and a double joystick, but the architecture is surprisingly intuitive and easy to leverage. This might make it more suitable for warm, wavering vintage-style sounds than any other wavetable synth while remaining powerful in more modern applications. Polyphonic modulation is especially strong, and everything between “alive” and “unhinged” is on tap here. It’s not perfect. My main complaints are for limited mod destinations which do not include the amp envelope, and a lack of meaningful labeling/feedback on the vector grid and time functions. A lot of feeling things out, which makes it seem organic but also a little stiff and abstract when banging out intentional ideas. The soft keyboard cannot be hidden, which makes it awkward as a plugin and spoils an overall frictionless interface on small screens. I attempted to reset the app and try again, but Moog did not accept my new purchase. I visited the Moog online support forum to seek assistance with my missing item, registered for support, and received an email. However, the email I received was just an empty black image. Ich werde das mal prüfen lassen… ### 1/5 — Really buggy - ui freezes randomly *2025-05-13, version 1.3.0* This app is everything you want from a mobile synth app the controls are mostly touch friendly. However, it has a bug where it still outputs audio however the screen freezes and the app no longer receives touch input. Also if an alarm or timer triggers while you are using the app the audio cuts out until you restart. I paid the $20 for this app. But again its a great synth for playing around with. I wish there was a sequencer. ### 1/5 — Trashola! *2025-04-21, version 1.3.0* Crashes on iphone 16 every time. ### 1/5 — I’ve contacted Moog multiple times. *2025-04-20, version 1.3.0* The app freezes on every device except for the iPad. They’re telling me that no one has reported this, but I’ve seen multiple posts regarding this. I have installed the app, rebooted and still 90% of the functions freeze or do not work, I’ve sent them video and they’re still telling me that I am “a rarity” and no one else is having this issue. I find it hard to believe since I own every Moog app since 2011 and have never had any issues with them except for now. Looper doesn’t work it immediately freezes. FX do not work it freezes. Basically, everything you try to use besides playing the keyboard freezes. Again, I have reinstalled this app at least 12 times, rebooted my iPhone 16 Pro multiple times, i’ve done just about everything and even turned off the search as someone mentioned and it still doesn’t work. It would be OK if they were planning an update, but they just updated the “looper” and as soon as they did that, it does not work whatsoever on my iPhone. I’ve even tried it on my iPhone X and my iPhone 13 Pro Max – it doesn’t work. I’ve spent quite a bit of money on their apps. Back in 2011, I bought Filtatron-unfortunately you can’t get that on the App Store anymore and it will not work on anything newer than an iPhone six. I have the original Animoog (I bought it for iPhone and iPad). I own every single synth they make. I even bought $70 worth of every single effect that they offer. I’m certainly not cheap when it comes to apps and even back in the day I was a beta tester for Animoog for iPad. I even remember when the four track recorder they offered – did not work for sometime. I also own every sound in app purchase for every app that they make. I even own four pieces of their hardware and think that they are a great company – however I’m kind of upset when they are telling me that I’m the only person who has complained that their iPhone will not work with Animoog Z (even bought that and paid for the ability to have full access). They need to fix their apps so we can use them. It isn’t like their apps are dirt cheap and if on occasion, there is a bug and they fix it within a month – these bugs happen and they don’t get fixed for seven or eight months.
