### 2/5 — Aggressive adware

*2026-08-06, version 4.26*

You can’t even scroll through the articles without triggering an advertisement opening in an external browser. Often it’s an advertisement that hasn’t even loaded in the AP News app yet, so even if you try to avoid ads while scrolling you can’t avoid it. Obviously they get paid by the click, so they force clicks. The news is good; the UI is borderline fraudulent.

### 2/5 — Meh

*2026-08-04, version 4.25*

Push notifications on iOS are completely broken. I set them to Breaking only, and I get everything. I set them to nothing, and I get everything. Otherwise a good app. Still broken 8/2026.

### 2/5 — Racial tensions

*2026-07-31, version 4.25*

Why do you guys constantly push divisive conflicts between White and black people on your platform? There is more to the world than social justice issues.

### 4/5 — Ads cover content, but it’s free

*2026-07-29, version 4.25*

AP News is one of the rare free news apps available, and is fairly comprehensive. Ads are to be expected as a trade off. However, the ads often render such that they cover content. This is especially noticeable on the homepage, when they cover titles of articles. This is why I am rating it 4/5 stars.

### 2/5 — Good content… except the ads

*2026-07-28, version 4.25*

The ads have long been a problem, sometimes blocking content and at other times preventing page scrolling by opening the ad any time it is pressed, I.e., when trying to scroll past it. The app loses a lot of appeal when you’re trying to view more content but are forcefully directed to an advertiser website.

### 2/5 — Stop the ads!

*2026-07-13, version 4.24*

Content is average but the ads are terribly repetitive and poorly executed. A real detractor from the news. Ap runs poorly…probably due to all the awful ads.

### 2/5 — Racial tensions

*2026-07-11, version 4.24*

Why do you guys constantly push divisive conflicts between White and black people on your platform? There is more to the world than social justice issues.

### 3/5 — Not good on local news at all

*2026-06-28, version 4.24*

The only “local news” this app ever provides for Delaware is other states sports news. Lame AP. Can get that info in any sports section of any paper. Hate sports in general. How about you have actual local news - or stop saying you do.

### 2/5 — Heavy censorship in comments section

*2026-06-24, version 4.23*

The app itself is fine, and AP is one of the best sources for US breaking news and election results, however the recent integration of the comments section into the app has exposed serious censorship, which appears to be associated with certain viewpoints rather than moderating uncivil discussion.

I have also noticed how AP’s reporting has more of an editorial bias these days. I’m a middle of the road type of person so I actually post things that run counter to the partisan viewpoints of other commenters, yet mine are routinely censored.

AP is always begging for money to support journalistic freedom, yet can’t even moderate discussion on their website in a way that prioritizes free speech. In a way I’m glad to see their true colors and how radical most of their readers are, which is motivating me to look elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Absolutely biased as

*2026-06-23, version 4.23*

It’s become an anti American mouthpiece.

### 2/5 — Meh

*2026-06-12, version 4.23*

Push notifications on iOS are completely broken. I set them to Breaking only, and I get everything. I set them to nothing, and I get everything. Otherwise a good app.

### 2/5 — Click sensitivity on ads

*2026-06-10, version 4.23*

Click sensitivity on ads, particularly for Expedia, is absolutely ridiculous. I’m constantly opening safari tabs while trying to scroll. App is borderline unusable because of this.

### 1/5 — Broken ‘Turn on location based news’ feature

*2026-06-09, version 4.23*

The location based news feature has been broken for months/years. Without it, you’ll just get new biased toward the US rather than more local to you.

I and others have flagged this bug with the development team many times. No sign of a fix.

### 1/5 — App Always Broken

*2026-06-09, version 4.22*

Reliably Unreliable

### 1/5 — Not a free speech platform

*2026-06-07, version 4.22*

No longer a free speech platform. They opened up chat but if you express views on Israel THEY DEACTIVATE your account. boycott AP BoycottAP now

### 4/5 — Today in History stuck at February 25!

*2026-06-04, version 4.22*

The app works well most of the time. Unfortunately the date on the “Today in History” image is stuck at February 25. Let’s see if the AP’s app developers read reviews as I can’t find any other way to feedback on a bug.

### 1/5 — Trash ads force you out of the app

*2026-06-03, version 4.22*

You can click anywhere but when you do, suddenly you’re being forced off the app and into your web browser to the ad that was shown 3/4 of the way down. I’m about to delete this trash. Used to read BBC before they did this. I’m on the cusp of deleting this app too. I’ll go straight to RT news online. At least then I’ll get a bias that’s not liberal leaning.

### 1/5 — Ham-fisted, amateurish propaganda

*2026-06-01, version 4.22*

Promotes extreme progressive agenda. Never misses a chance to denigrate Israel, drag Trump irrelevantly into unrelated stories, and fail to report on atrocities throughout the world that would cast their woke causes in a negative light. Sloppy reporting and writing, replete with misspellings.

### 2/5 — Used to be a good app

*2026-05-31, version 4.22*

Unfortunately the ads redirection on this app have made it almost impossible to use, in particular redirection to the Amazon Shopping app. Sensitivity as you scroll past the advertisements is super high leading to unnecessary frustration as the app redirects. As a result I rarely use the app anymore. More reasonable subscription plans would likely see more users elect for ad free options.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Just lost me as a customer

*2026-08-22, version 4.27.1*

Subject: Lost customer due to intrusive mobile-app experience
I’m writing to explain why AP News has lost me as a customer. The repeated prompts, interruptions, and aggressive messaging in the mobile app felt less like customer engagement and more like harassment. They significantly interfered with simply checking the news.
I have decided to stop using the app—and cancel my subscription, if applicable—because of this experience. Please share this feedback with your mobile product and leadership teams. An app should respect its users rather than repeatedly pressure or interrupt them.

Love the app - not worth spending more money and being harassed.

### 1/5 — Horrible app (news is great)

*2026-08-20, version 4.27*

AP News has the worst app (and an even worse website). The app causes my ipad to stall, which no other app does. The website is disgusting with more ads than journalism. I support AP News, so get it together and figure out how to present your world-class reporting properly. Why would I donate money for a product that is this bad?

### 1/5 — New Headlines Dead

*2026-08-12, version 4.26.1*

Big headlines do not open any related stories. Unusable!

### 1/5 — Bad news articles really horrible

*2026-08-12, version 4.26.1*

The title says something and when I open the article the news says something exactly different. Seriously, APNews? We thought you are good journalism. It looks like you just want clicks!!! I will not donate until you behave yourself and don't become like Fox News and CNN.

### 1/5 — Broken autoplay ads

*2026-08-09, version 4.26.1*

Sound started autoplaying on ads that also bait you into clicking with ‘play sound’ buttons (to turn it off). Ad auto expands and can’t be scrolled past.

APnews feedback form links directly to Jira and wont proceed without fields fully filled out, and wont take a fake or blank URL. I am not clicking on the ad. Do your own damn QA

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2026-07-30, version 4.25*

This app is consistently buggy no matter how often it’s updated. *Sigh*

### 1/5 — Lots of photos

*2026-07-19, version 4.25*

Hard to read the news with so much flooooooof. Options to reduce images do not reduce number of images. Cr/app.

### 1/5 — Spyware that ignores your notification preferences

*2026-07-15, version 4.25*

I turned off notifications for sports, but I still get notifications for sports. Also, why does a news app need to track your activity across platforms? It’s sad how just about every single app is spyware now, even news apps.

### 1/5 — Heavy bias less facts

*2026-07-10, version 4.24*

No longer a reliable news source. We don t need personal bias in reporting. Very shameful editorializing with progressive left wing bias.

### 1/5 — AP is Now Proudly Biased

*2026-06-23, version 4.23*

They leave out context and give ridiculous one-sided opinions.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent & Free

*2026-08-02, version 4.25*

This app provides the latest news, written in a professional and unbiased manner. And, unlike apps such as Reuters and CNN, it’s totally free. It’s now my primary source for U.S. and world news.

### 5/5 — I trust it!

*2026-04-17, version 4.20*

I trust it with my life!

### 5/5 — My favorite news app

*2026-03-14, version 4.18.1*

Unbiased news is hard to find these days. Thank you, AP!

### 5/5 — Great Way to Get High Quality News

*2026-03-08, version 4.18.1*

When I transitioned from getting my news on social media (I know, horrible) to credible news sources I did some research and decided to downloaded the AP News app. I’ve been using it over a year now and really enjoy it!

### 5/5 — Avid reader

*2026-02-08, version 4.18*

The AP news consistent and reliable source of information updates, the absolute best for articles and photographs!

### 5/5 — The Best of MSM

*2026-01-04, version 4.16.3*

This is the best I’ve found of clear and unbiased reporting and it’s not password-protected or locked, which is amazing. We should support this source of news. It’s a dying breed which we need to keep alive in the spirit of real journalism.

### 5/5 — Best news source

*2025-12-21, version 4.16.2*

I love AP

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-12-08, version 4.15*

It’s where 50% of the news on all Aus news sites comes from anyway. Good quality impartial fact based global news. 10/10

### 5/5 — 1st News App I see daily

*2025-12-07, version 4.15*

For decades always applauded, appreciated and trusted AP news and photography. I recently made it my first stop in my daily rotation. It used to be CNN but now it’s AP. From their insightful details about Ukraine to international sport, culture, and historical political and humanitarian issues happening each day, I rely in this AP app for easy, quick access, and outstanding, great journalism for free.

### 5/5 — Notification Sound

*2025-11-12, version 4.15*

I love this app and appreciate the AP news reporting. I like that I get good information that I can trust. My only complaint is that the breaking news notification sound changed. I loved the original “breaking news” alert because it was unique and I knew something was happening that I should pay attention to.
