It can’t find the device. ### 3/5 — Very Non-intuitive *2022-01-28* In short, this app does more than most reviews here imply, but the user experience is so counter-intuitive most users think they’re stuck before they really are. It can be used with the apps it claims; however, instead of seeing those apps as options, you must start a “broadcast” with this app, THEN open the app you want. At that point the device will track faces displayed. This makes sense for hosting a stream, where the user is the “presenter.” It does not work well with video calling apps (like FaceTime) where the screen is dominated by the other caller. The app/device then tracks their face, essentially giving them remote control! Basically, if you need to record or stream and don’t have a camera operator, this will help. It does not work well to keep one caller in frame for a video calling-type app. (Unless you put that person in primary display, which defeats the purpose of video calling, i.e. seeing who you’re talking to.) ### 1/5 — Face time *2022-01-26, version 4.13* Will not work with face time at all. I looked up where it says it will but that is dead wrong disregard that line because it kept trying and it just spins around and around never locking on me. Had I had read the reviews about this app I would not have purchased the device. The picture and video quality are just awful. And it’s sad because if you used your own phone camera/video it won’t move because it only works with the app. The only benefit, it’s the right size to record stuff with your own phone, say for example I use mine to show pages in a book. However using the app for any pic or video quality is a no. If someone cares about this app they would revise and consider people who are buying this model, not getting ripped off with the app quality if you care about your business and reputation. Just saying dude. Fix this and do better. ### 1/5 — NOT at all as advertised *2021-12-10* I bought a pair of the Apai Genie Robot Cameramans intending to send one to a friend, so I downloaded this app first to test it. One of the functions I was most interested in is panoramic shooting, the ability to take a sequence of pictures to get up to a 360 degree view. The app has this function in its list of functions but it is NOWHERE to be found in the actual app controls. Its face-tracking is VERY slow and it could not track me when I tried to circle completely around the Cameraman. It appeared only to be able to cover maybe 45 degrees before it gave up to then try to find my face again or another face by circling around. On top of these problems, I tried to slide open the battery cover on the bottom of my second Cameraman and it would not budge. ### 1/5 — Not good *2021-10-07, version 4.11* This app is no good/ when connected to Bluetooth it comes up as headphones—app not recognized— ### 3/5 — WhatsApp *2021-10-05* Брал для Ватсапп. Нет возможности указать за каким обьектом следить. ### 1/5 — Device may have had potential if not for clunky and dysfunctional proprietary app! *2021-09-14, version 4.11* Thank God I was given this device to review through a company I work with via Amazon and since I do review a ton of products, I can say this device and it’s corresponding app bring the hype and fail to deliver miserably. The device itself is quiet and tracking appears acceptably smooth but as other reviewers have stated, despite the bluetooth connectivity it will ONLY detect and connect and function with their Apai Genie app. The actually physical device may have actually been a decent tool to use if not for this clunky, dysfunctional app, and sadly as long as I’ve had this device it doesn’t appear like the app is even getting regular updates or if its developer is even really paying attention to the vast majority of the reviews. One big peeve for me is in video mode if you sit still for less than 2-3 seconds the app begins a countdown and automatically begins recording with absolutely nothing in settings to disable this annoying feature. If the developer actually makes some updates that pushes the app to the level I believe the device to be, then this might become more than a 1-2 star rated app, and I’ll gladly update this review to reflect that. Final verdict? I struggled to connect it the device to my Bluetooth, I figured out you can’t configure it, it automatically connects to your phone through the app, once you open the app, tap on video and press on the Bluetooth icon (all while the gimbOWL is on with a flashing light) and then your phone will be set up properly.
