### 5/5 — Deep, powerful, inspiring

*2020-01-12, version 1.5.9*

When I realized my iPad mini 2 could support a 6 in/out USB interface (powered externally), I didn't realize I had an app that not only supported that many, but gave me a systematic way to route audio between hardware and software *and* assign midi channels, midi ccs, lfos, and my ipad's accelerometers to controls in all those apps with all those signals.
Plus on the fly recording, plus a built in keyboard and limiting note input to one of a mess of scales.
In a pretty modest, outdated device.
Would recommend. Do recommend already.

### 4/5 — Sehr gut, mit Einschränkungen

*2019-06-03*

### 5/5 — Wonderful, flexible, stable

*2018-12-26, version 1.4*

Gives you a variety of powerful options and quick and easy ways to route various kinds of devices whether it be midi or audio.

Gets 5 stars already for what it is.

Would be nice if there was a way to ‘midi map’ opening a device. Either to show an audio unit (same action as tapping the icon of the app), or switching to IAA devices at the tap of a key or button would be nice. It gets difficult having to rely on the screen to switch between apps. Bonus points if it could do this even while running in the background.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2018-11-14, version 1.4*

Just keeps getting better

### 5/5 — Future synth...

*2018-09-01*

This is the future of music knocking at our doors. Don’t waste time anymore.
I seems to me like the possibilities of this app are endless, and I’m not yet thinking about the deep settings &options which’ll make you crazy !
this is all I was missing in iOS.
My advice: try it whit Rozetta

### 5/5 — Must have for all iOS musicians

*2018-07-29, version 1.1*

Apematrix has the ability to modulate tons of parameters in most audio unit apps using a very cool interface. The app is a bit confusing at first but just mess with it for an hour or 2 and you should be an expert. Then it’s easy and the sky is the limit on how much fun you can have modulating audio unit chains(synths and drum machines with effects chains). Can’t write more because I have to get back to the apematrix fun. The app is solid and I can’t imagine anyone not loving it once they get going. There are good videos for it now on YouTube so it makes things even easier. Check out thesoundtestroom, for one to get you excited.

### 5/5 — Wonderful app

*2018-07-11, version 1.1*

This app has made it SO much easier to combine other iOS music apps, and easily take advantage of their many features. There are a few apps that do this well but not many. So this is well worth checking out.
I found the interface easy to understand, and there’s documentation as well. Also, the developer has been very good about updates.
I’ve had lots of fun with apeMatrix and you may too. I encourage you to check it out. Especially if you are looking to break away from DAW-style recording, this could be perfect for you!

### 5/5 — apeSoft rules

*2018-07-05, version 1.1*

I never, ever thought that there could come along an AUM killer. Enter apeMatrix. It's just as elegant, pretty, and even more efficient than AUM at setup with both its matrix and its alphabetized, sortable-by-type app menus (anyone who has a ton of music apps knows how much scrolling AUM can take to set up).

I've only opened AUM once since I bought apeMatrix opening day, and only then for its file player. Latest ape update with the metronome was much needed. I'm 99% satisfied.

Really the only key feature missing now is separate outs for recording, but since I just use it for jamming live and sketching out ideas to take into Auria or Cubasis, I don't really need it.

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2018-06-30, version 1.0.4*

Apesoft is up there with Amazing noises and Kymetica to put out the best experimental and great sounding apps! apeMatrix is but the latest example of the talent of this developer.

### 5/5 — Game changer

*2018-06-11, version 1.0*

Just occasionally a music app comes along, changes the game and knocks you sideways. Well that is what happened to me with apeMatrix.

The first 10 minutes I spent scratching my head trying to work out what this app actually does and then... the next few hours evolved into a series of incredible experiences.

This app offers a slick way to control, manipulate and play music especially via AU. So now I have this on board there is no turning back - a really enjoyable game changing app :) :)

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Augenzerstörer

*2024-12-18*

### 1/5 — No clue what this has to offer that I need at all

*2022-06-19, version 1.9.5*

Apparently there are virtually no non jibber jabber boring “step by step “ tutorials and the receive choices as well as the instruments I use don’t show up in the lists at all and the inter app stuff made no sound and did not work even when I set the midi channels to the internal keyboard.

### 1/5 — Crashes frequently and complicated design

*2020-10-24, version 1.9.1*

I’ve wanted to use this app since purchasing it when released but the problem is the design is very complicated and unintuitive. Additionally, I can make the app crash every single time by tapping the down arrow on the top menu.

### 1/5 — Extremely unstable, good concept

*2018-07-06, version 1.1*

Extremely unstable, even saves are unstable. Great idea, but really needs to get cleaned up to be on par with AUM.

### 2/5 — Great potential...

*2018-07-08, version 1.1*

Unfortunately, though, this is a beta release. One turn of a knob can result in massive feedback followed by nothing, inexplicably, working. Sometimes rebooting the entire project works to resolve the feedback but in other cases I'm left with a dead project. Like now, with nothing working in a new tune. No sound. At other times, AU3 instruments simply don't load. These things, and other bugs, make the app pretty much unusable except as a rather expensive (for an app) toy. There are lots of other things that need fixing, too, e.g. effects units continue to effect an instrument even when the instrument volume is turned to zero, with the effect (ahem) that playing around with volumes has little or no effect at all on what is playing. If these very annoying things can be sorted out this will be a great piece of software. At the moment, though, I'd steer clear until these showstopper issues are resolved.

### 3/5 — Rock solid until recently

*2025-01-04, version 2.0.2*

Please fix multi-outs, and compatbility with fabfilter plugins. When these worked, this app was ***** five stars

### 3/5 — What gives? Great app, but...

*2020-07-09, version 1.8*

The dev did away with pack pricing for these apps. Kinda crappy. Was planning on purchasing most of them until this happened. Also, raising the price to double for one day (or less) to make it look like it’s been discounted in app price trackers is a shady practice, imo.

### 3/5 — Idk can’t get it to work

*2019-10-15, version 1.5.6*

Idk can’t get it to work

### 4/5 — Creates busses in Cubasis, yeah!!!

*2021-06-20, version 1.9.3*

It worked! Busses in Cubasis!!! I was only interested in “hacking” busses in Cubasis, and ApeMatrix’s “MixerSendReceive” delivered the goods!

I’m only rating this app 4 stars because my use case is so limited. Given the results, I’m sure that other elements of this product are equally good.

Here’s how I tested in Cubasis 3.3:

1. Load 2 instances of MixerSendReceive as Sends in a piano track, one pointing to “A” and another to “B”.
2. Load 1 instance of MixerSendReceive as a Send in an organ track pointing to “A”.
3. Create a group “I Verb” with no source tracks. Route the output to 1/2 as usual.
4. Load an instance of MixerSendReceive as an Insert pointing to “A”. Add an Insert - A reverb plug-in pre-fader.
5. Create a group “I Delay” with no source tracks. Route the output to 1/2 as usual. Load an instance of MixerSendReceive as an Insert pointing to “B”. Add an Insert - a delay plug-in pre-fader.
5. Play my recording, raising and lowering the faders on groups “I Verb” and “I Delay”. Hear reverb on the piano and organ, delay only on the piano, when the respective fader is up.

There is no need to load any other application (such as an IAP) to make this work. Apparently MixerSendReceive is designed to act as a buss within a single IOS audio host.

The only challenge is that the source track still goes to the master output. If you turn down the fader or mute the source track, MixerSendReceive doesn’t get any signal (remember, it’s a send of the audio in the source track, so operates post-fader). This isn’t a huge issue if you plan well.

Bravo!

### 4/5 — Very Good.

*2020-03-03, version 1.6.1*

Hi, reload sessions do not work with Cubasis.

Super app!.

Thank You.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Das Bessere ist der Feind des Guten

*2025-11-01*

### 5/5 — This app! Apematrix, is not just an app! Its a divine blessing from the mount olympus!

*2024-04-07*

This app will change the course of history, that time isnt that far away! sorry AUM and AB(respect to you both)

But Apematrix, is like, i’d like to describe as

“None quite so equal, none will ever be”
This is food for the gods!

The dev, is an absolute blessing for this shallow earth!

### 5/5 — One of the Best…

*2024-01-19*

…playgrounds for iOS musicmaking-experience. The more you learn it, the more you love it. Really clever how you can gather AUs on the MATRIX, join them in versatile and different connections and modulate everone of them via the app own LFOs and MIDI-bindings. Once you have a SETUP you like, connect it further to AUM or a DAW, fantastic!

### 5/5 — Sehr gut ❤️

*2023-07-24*

### 5/5 — MUSIC | FIELD RECORDINGS | EXPERIMENTS ApeMatrix Does it All!

*2022-04-26, version 1.9.5*

Really useful audio recording, mixing, DJ, sequencing tool! Every musician, sound artist & engineer, DJ, audio tech should have this in their toolbox! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A couple of small suggestions ============
Low or minimum volume as standard or an option to adjust starting initial volume when adding a route on the matrix.

When patching or routing in a live or modular like way occasionally the full volume is too much especially when trying to play with feedback & audio in a live way.

An envelope or intensity variable adjustment for the LFO section. The LFOs are great but also

Global Volume / Panning & LFO in mixer
An global LFO option to control the sum of all parts could be very useful

Additional LFOs in the adjustment section. Being able to place additional LFOs on any from mixer section could help w/ generative music & experimental audio & music

GUI & UX
To turn to mixer by holding 2 or 3 fingers & sliding sideways a cube, fade, flip animation effect or similar {these could maybe be options with existing animation from ios, swift, github libraries

Thanks so much for all of the thoughts & creativity in all of your creations :)

### 5/5 — if you use auv3, this is where it al fits

*2022-01-24*

fits however you like. connections, any you need or want are all within quick and easy access. intuitive and clear.
audio units can be layered, resized.
keyboard can be customized.

### 5/5 — Prima

*2021-10-25*

### 5/5 — The Best for sound creation! Only Small bugs.

*2021-07-10, version 1.9.3*

I absolutely love this app. It’s fantastic for experimenting with the dozens of apps I have and connecting them in new ways. However, I’m not sure if it’s just me, but there seems to be an issue with the ableton live integration. I can get all of my other apps to connect with no problem, but haven’t been able to get this to sync to ableton. Other than that, this is my #1 music app right now.

### 5/5 — Must have tool for sound design!

*2020-07-23, version 1.8*

You have synths. You have fx apps. You have infinite possibilities of combining them to produce unique interesting sounds and this is the app designed exactly for that.

Say you have 2 synths that you want to output through different fx and then have outputs of those go through one other fx app and then split that outgoing signal and route it to two different other fx. Make some connections stronger or more subtle (those intersecting circles are all gain controls for those connections). Can this be done in any other app? Nope, this is the only one. I like AUM, but once I have a DAW that allows me to record and edit MIDI as well as audio I’ll see no reason to keep it. (Cubasis can record audio and MIDI, but I don’t like it for editing MIDI). But even if I have a perfect DAW, I’ll still need ApeMatrix because no other app allows such flexibility for sound experimentation.

You can also modulate a lot of stuff, with each control getting its own LFO. If the knob of a synth can be midi mapped - ApeMatrix can modulate it. This really expands the capabilities of the synths, basically taking them to the next level, because some synths have very limited modulation options.

Great LFOs too. you can just drag two ends of sliders to select the range (for example move some knob between certain positions) this makes experimenting a breeze!

One tip to quickly get started, all connections go from left to top. So whenever you place a dot anywhere, you’ve sent the signal from left icon to the top icon.

Request: awesome app in every way, but it would be perfect if you could make files alphabetical. Otherwise when I come back to an older project and save as new copy with the same name (adding a version number), it places it at the bottom instead of next to the old one. It’s possible to rearrange them, but the alphabetical way is so much better. Thanks for considering!
