An innovative composition tool that lets the user see and manipulate musical forms, exploring the relation between geometry and music. APHELIAN features a new kind of sequencer, based on a geometrical metaphor. The interface of the Standalone App is composed of 4 independent instruments. In the AUv3 extension, Aphelian behaves as a single MIDI PROCESSOR that could be used multiple times within the AU HOST to feed different audio generators. Each geometrical unit has a SHAPE that function as a TIMELINE. The user can DRAW EVENTS in the TIMELINE to create melodies. The SHAPES are located over a NOTE MAP that defines the NOTE of each EVENT. The SHAPES can be easily transformed using gestures that take full advantage of the touch screen. Any transformation in the SHAPE results in a predictable modification in the musical composition. APHELIAN offers an amazing balance between joyful exploration and accurate detail control, proposing an organic way to compose music. A total waste of time, I’m sorry to say. If this is fixed, I’ll reconsider adding it to my iOS musicsphere and updating my review. Already deleted. ### 1/5 — AUV3 is currently broken *2021-10-25, version 1.2.2* The app hasn’t been updated in a long while. It’s last release left an unsolved problem with AUV3. If you add a second Aphelian MIDI instance in AUM, the second one will not start, with or without a synth connected, and regardless of the MIDI channel settings. I had a blast with this throughout the weekend and the non auv3- stand-alone mode is fantastic from a musician standpoint and very aesthetically pleasing. I’m sure this will appeal to people with little musical knowledge as much as it will appeal to anyone with a good grasp of music theory. I’m loving both the ease of composition as much as I am looking forward to making more complex music. Could see pairing this with Patterning 2 and a sampler for endless fun. ### 4/5 — Solid Reboot *2019-01-08, version 1.0.3* The first update to the app has fixed many of the bugs, crashes, and freezes. The developer continues to work on the remaining issues. The app is now very functional and the MIDI out and built-in synths are great to use especially combined with the scene and song modes.
