## What is Apnea Trainer?

Ranked in the top 5 best-selling sports apps in Germany, Australia, the UK, and France.

----- Description -----
The precise breath-holding training app for freedivers, snorkelers, and anyone who wants to hold their breath longer.

Imagine you’re snorkeling in the ocean on vacation and see big, colorful fish 6 meters below the surface—you’d love to dive down on a single breath and take unforgettable photos. With Apnea Trainer, that’s possible. By training three times a week, you’ll quickly double your time underwater.

Your personalized training plan:
Answer a few short questions about your skill level and your goal—Apnea Trainer will use this information to create a training plan spanning several weeks that’s tailored just for you. Each session is scheduled and builds on the previous one, so you’ll see measurable improvement week after week. Your progress is tracked automatically—all you have to do is train.

Four training modes:
• Apnea Training – Inhale, hold your breath, exhale. Optimal intervals for maximum performance improvement.
• Pranayama – Four-phase breathing for relaxation and preparation right before snorkeling or freediving.
• Cyclic – Cyclical breathing training in rounds with hold and recovery phases that specifically increases your CO₂ tolerance.
• Custom Pro – All four phases freely adjustable from 0 to 240 seconds for competitive athletes.

The smart Performance Index automatically adjusts training times to your level—you’ll improve without having to do the math yourself. Visual and audio cues (voice prompts and haptic feedback) guide you through each phase. No need to think—just train.

Apple Watch:
Start and control your workout right from your wrist. During the exercise, you’ll see your heart rate in real time and be guided through each phase by gentle vibrations—without having to look at your iPhone.

Stopwatch & Progress:
With the built-in apnea stopwatch, you can measure and save your best breath-hold attempts. Track your personal bests on weekly, monthly, or yearly charts and share special milestones with friends.

Logbook for real dives:
Record your freedives with location, map preview, duration, max depth and notes — with location suggestions, and depth in meters or feet. Your training sessions appear in the logbook too, including a heart-rate graph per session.

Widgets & Apple Health:
Three home screen widgets show your streak, weekly goal and today's training status at a glance. Live Activities bring your running session to the Lock Screen and the Dynamic Island. Completed sessions can be saved to Apple Health as mindful minutes.

Motivating Streak System:
Stay on track and dive deeper and deeper. Maintain your daily workout streak, advance through deeper and deeper zones, and earn over 35 awards for consistency, volume, and personal records. If you miss a day, a “Freeze” joker will save your streak. Share your unlocked achievements and new personal bests with a single tap as a beautiful image on your social media.

Privacy & Sync Without an Account:
Your progress is securely synced across all your Apple devices via iCloud without requiring registration or an account. The data is stored exclusively in your private iCloud database—no tracking, no sharing, and the highest privacy standards.

More than 10,000 active users confirm its success: Beginners can double their performance within 7 days by using Apnea Trainer for 3 minutes daily. Advanced athletes have reported consistent performance gains of 10 to 20 seconds within 10 days.

### 4/5 — Great app with some room for improvement

*2024-05-30*

I really love this app and use it routinely to help relax and improve my breathing. Hoping the developers can improve the voice counting as it’s a bit buggy and would be a much better experience after this minor adjustment

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. Please get in touch with me to provide more detailed information. I would be happy to resolve the audio issue. Since I cannot reproduce it on my test devices, I would some more info about this.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 5.5.5 — 2026-08-18

• The average in the stopwatch now really covers the last 7 days. Until now it averaged your last 7 attempts, even when those were weeks apart.
• Your list of times is now sorted by date — the newest attempts are at the top, so you can retrace how the average is calculated. Your best time stays in the summary and is still marked in the list.
• If you haven't trained for over a week, you'll see a dash instead of a number: there's nothing to average in that period.

### 5.5.4 — 2026-08-16

• Switching your training mode is easy again: the selector below the diver is now wider and shows the neighbouring modes, so you can see right away that you can swipe or tap.
• You can also switch modes directly in Settings again, just like you were used to.

### 5.5.3 — 2026-08-14

• Apnea Trainer now speaks Turkish and Croatian — that makes seven languages. The app follows your system language automatically.

### 5.5.2 — 2026-08-09

• Switch training type right on the start screen: the new selector below the start button lets you swipe between Apnea, Pranayama, Custom and Cyclic — tap it to open that type's settings instantly.
• Breathing sequence fixed: in plan sessions the end of a recovery phase could be followed by inhale after inhale — voice cue and countdown stuttered. Every recovery now ends cleanly on an exhale.
• The lungs shift colour fluidly with your breath: inhaling fills them green, holding gradually blends green into red, exhaling lets the colour drain away.
• The indicator circle adopts the organic particle look of the Cyclic training — across all training types, including the colour blend while holding.
• Seconds now count down with a smooth transition instead of snapping over.
• iPad: training and check screens rebalanced — the circle now sits against the body just like on iPhone.
• More precise phase transitions: every phase ends exactly on time.

### 5.5.1 — 2026-08-06

• Training plan: sessions now start reliably — no more jumping back to the overview.
• Training plan: the overview now shows right away when a session still needs to be unlocked.
• The time projection is shown in full on every screen size instead of being cut off.
