### 3/5 — Looks promising

*2023-10-18*

I was going to sign up but wanted to try the free trial from what I’ve been reading on the reviews. When subscribing I don’t see that there’s a free trial. I only see $90 for the year. So not sure if I’m going to get charged the $90 and not get the trial. Not risking!!! Maybe when you fix that I’ll give you guys a try.

### 3/5 — Great idea

*2023-07-19*

Thank you for creating an app for just fiction podcasts. My only complaint is that you only feature only a few podcasts in the playlists. and a lot of time the same ones and in my opinion mislabeled. So I end up seeing the same 10 shows over and over. How many times can you recommend the bright sessions? And second it’s not about superheroes at all yet it’s in the superhero playlist. Can you please just have a list of ALL the shows in that genre? Please and thank you 😁

### 3/5 — Great app, but frequently crashes

*2023-01-30, version 3.4.2*

I think apollo is an awesome app, I love the interface and it feels intuitive to navigate, the playlist features are great, but it crashes so frequently that it’s near unusable. I don’t know if others have this experience, but the app will sometimes close midway through playing a podcast. If this is fixed, I would love to go back to this app, otherwise I’ll stick to other apps

### 3/5 — Great to find stuff

*2023-01-19*

Great to find things with but no good to use as your listening app.

For some reason this app doesn’t have basic playlist functionality. Every other audio player does. The technology exists. The buggiest no name androidTV pod catchers can handle it. It doesn’t make any sense that this app hasn’t included that key function

**Developer response:** Hey TheRevLark! Thanks for downloading Apollo and leaving us your review. We just released a new update this morning that allows you to create playlists and download episodes for offline listening. Make sure to update and give it a try if you have the chance!

### 4/5 — Awesome

*2022-11-05*

Thank you for fixing login and library menu! Every part of the app (screenloading, tap responsiveness, lag time etc.) is very slow, with the exception of playback. Aaaand the app suddenly quits sometimes. But I’m giving it 4 stars because it looks great, has an easy, intuitive UI, and an excellent discovery/suggestions menu. I’ve just been using Stitcher all this time, but I’m slowly migrating my many podcast subs to Apollo.

### 3/5 — Good with room to improve

*2022-10-11*

It’s wonderful the collection and organization of podcasts, but the app functions very slowly. Every new click takes a while to load, and if you want to skip ahead or back, it is delayed considerably and even crashes. Hopeful it will be improved in the future, as I would love to continue using such an app!

### 4/5 — Want to love it but

*2022-09-15*

I love the fact it focuses on drama but I’m unable to sign into my account despite requests for help with changing my password. Prior to that problem every time I left the app and came back to it I had to re-login. Now I can’t even do that. I’m going to have to either delete it or transfer the podcasts to my iCloud podcast app

### 4/5 — Potential

*2022-05-26, version 1.4.1*

I like the app, it’s been more stable of late and a decent library, I have found some really good stories.

I almost exclusively listen in the car, so ….?Please can we have it added to CarPlay availability??

### 4/5 — Appreciative

*2022-05-21*

I truly enjoy having an app focused on fiction and all the fun categories under it. However, there are a few issues with the app I have. Compared to other apps I use I thought it would be similar but it is not, partially. I wish the app could keep track of where I am on an episode, if I get confused and play another episode only to go back to the correct one it doesn’t pick up where I left off but to start from the beginning. Also allow me the option to select all the episodes I want to listen to in order so it will play automatically. Other than that, I am enjoying the selection and excited to find more shows to listen to

### 4/5 — VoiceOver support please

*2022-03-17, version 1.3*

App is great but is hard to navigate using VoiceOver screen reader.

### 2/5 — Want to love it

*2022-02-24*

I’m excited about the idea behind this app, but it routinely shuts itself down which makes listening to an episode frustrating. I find myself searching this app for shows but listening on another platform. Looking forward to future iterations of the app.

### 3/5 — Great app for discovering fiction podcasts…

*2022-01-01*

…but super clunky for actually listening to them. As another reviewer mentioned, there’s no library bar or other repository for full seasons of the podcasts you’re currently listening to. The app lists episodes in progress on the homepage, but no way to see episodes you’ve already listened to or any other mechanism for tracking how far into a particular season you are (at least no mechanism that is easily located). Great potential, but just not very user-friendly at all.

**Developer response:** Hey Anonymous748, thanks for trying out Apollo and leaving a review. Those are absolutely great points, we will discuss with our team and have a way to track which episodes were listened to already. On another note, we just released a new update this morning with library and download functions. Let me know if you have a chance to check it out. My email is also open if you want to share more thoughts. We’re a super small team, but we read every email! victor@apollopods.com

### 3/5 — I know it’s new but…

*2021-12-28*

The app creators need to make it to where you can subscribe to multiple podcasts. If it already has this feature then it should be easier to locate. I listen to lots of podcasts at a time just how I feel I have one to listen to when I’m doing a certain thing. How do I locate what I’m listening to there should be a library on the bottom bar so you can see what your listening to. Please please add this it would make people use this app if it were easy to navigate and also the library so people can listen to multiple things at a time

**Developer response:** Hey DarthFitch21, thanks for using Apollo and sharing your thoughts! As an avid fiction podcast listener, I 100% share your pain. Good news is that we just pushed an update this morning and now you can create different playlists in your library and save shows to listen later. If you have a chance to try Apollo again, I’d love to hear what you think. — Victor with the Apollo team (victor@apollopods.com)

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2025-02-13, version 4.1.6*

App so buggy couldn’t even subscribe to the Plus version

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2022-12-12*

At first glance everything about this app is great, then you dive into it and it’s one small thing after another. It doesn’t keep your place in the story your listing to and the previously viewed never has the last show you were listening to, so you have to search for what you were listening to last, plus it doesn’t mark episodes you’ve already listened so unless you remember you have to find out yourself (extremely annoying). It’s chalked full of these goofy dungeon and dragons shows that unless you play, they don’t transfer from game to story very well. And that’s just a couple things. There are so many little things wrong the add up into a poorly designed app.. and now there charging for some content. I don’t trust this app to actually buy content. Who knows what you would get or even get the. Right and probably end up losing it or getting overcharged. Not worth the hassle

### 1/5 — Crash

*2022-02-19, version 1.2*

Super glitchy. Constantly crashing. Cannot subscribe, does not link to socials, doesn’t automatically play the next episode, search barely works.

### 1/5 — Crashes anytime I try…..

*2022-01-13*

I downloaded it and was super excited to use it. I haven’t listened to one podcast yet because I crashes every time I search or click on one to listen.

**Developer response:** Hey KickTheeAltarBoy, thanks for bringing this up. We just released a new fix...this was a bug affecting certain iPhone models. Please give it a second try if you have the chance and thanks for using Apollo!

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2022-01-11, version 1.1*

There is very little content currently and what there is keeps crashing. Too bad I really liked the idea of gathering story telling podcasts under one roof

### 2/5 — So buggy

*2025-03-10*

I really want to like this podcast app because I love fiction. But it’s sooooo buggy. Sometimes the app will not play the podcast. Also, I downloaded shows to listen to on the plane, but the app won’t even open while in airplane mode!

I’m very disappointed. I’ve tried it for several months but I’m done with it.

### 2/5 — OK for discovering audio fiction ; Terrible UI

*2022-12-18*

For audio fiction lovers, this does a decent job of categorizing curated lists by category to help discovery. However, the user experience is terrible. I love audio fiction and I support what this app is trying to do, but Apollo isn't a reason to give up on my favourite podcatcher yet.

The app resets your place too often so even finding the podcast you're currently listening to requires a query to the server *every time*.

Finished with an episode and want to go to the next one? You'll probably have to search for it again and hopefully you remember the name or number of the episode because there's no indication of your listening history. This includes sometimes not saving your progress at all, such as when you listen all the way through an episode then halfway through the next one, take a break, come back, and you're back where you started at the previous session.

No rewind/fast-forward controls are available on the lock screen. You must unlock each time to seek within a track or skip to the next. I didn't try with CarPlay.

Slow and frustrating. Maybe I'll revisit in a year.

### 2/5 — Could be good ……

*2022-04-10, version 1.3*

….. I’ve given 2 stars purely for the idea. This should be great, it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for, but it’s constantly crashing.
I’ve not managed to listen to one podcast yet!
It’s early days so I’ll keep the app for now. Please fix this guys, this is exactly what we podcast fiction listeners need.

### 2/5 — Good idea, poor execution?

*2022-03-17, version 1.3*

I’ve been waiting a while for an app like this. However after downloading it I’ve been able to spend no more than 1 minute on app without it crashing. Really hope this gets fixed.

### 2/5 — Crashes. So wish it would work

*2022-03-05, version 1.3*

Great content, easy to discover new shows, but the app is basically unusable because it crashes every 30 seconds to a minute. I would love this app if it could get through an episode! Much needed because good fiction can be hard to discover on other platforms.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Bit glitchy but very promising

*2022-06-09, version 1.4.3*

As a daily fiction podcast listener (to pass the time as a farm worker) this app is exactly what I want. The menus are quite easy to navigate and it’s nice to be able to search by genre instead of looking to podcast reviewers that may not have the same tastes and sense of humour that I have.
I think once a few wrinkles are ironed out this app will be great.

### 5/5 — Great podcast finding app

*2022-03-24*

So once you get passed the crashing (I didn’t see an update but the app just started working for me?), this app has SUCH good ways of sorting podcasts. There are so many podcasts that just never show up on Apple Podcasts. I already found 5 podcasts that I’m into that I never heard of. They also have a current category for the 2022 Ambie awards as well as all of the basic categories (e.g. Horror, adventure, fantasy, etc.) and a tagging system.

Every now and again it does seem to glitch out, but it does clear up.

### 5/5 — Great for looking, not for listening

*2022-03-10, version 1.3*

Really cool interface and browsing, unfortunately when I turn off my screen with a podcast playing the app crashes after about 30s

### 5/5 — Great for discovery to play on another app.

*2022-02-26*

It’s unbelievable how bad the current podcasting apps’ discovery options are for audio dramas.

For new audio dramas, I have been bouncing between apps (Apple’s, iCatcher and Owltail) for discovery and then subscribing and listening with iCatcher! (a mature feature rich podcaster). There is no dedicated audio drama section in any of these apps (‘fiction’, ‘arts’ or ‘podcasts similar to’ will sometimes bear fruit, but audio dramas are lumped together with many other types of podcasts, which makes discovery tedious).

Apollo is my new go to source for the discovery of audio dramas, which I subsequently play on iCatcher!.

I prefer to download episodes. My only quibble (though I understand the reasoning) is that you have to create an account and log in to listen to downloaded episodes. So, I discover with Apollo and subscribe and play the episodes in iCatcher!

It’s an extra step, but just for the discovery alone (which you don’t have to log in for) this app is offering an incredible, well needed resource for people that love audio dramas.

Thank You!

### 5/5 — What a great fiction podcast App!!

*2021-12-21*

So glad to finally have all my fiction podcasts in one place. What a great way to discover great content 😍😍😍

### 5/5 — This app is lit

*2021-12-21*

Reeeeaaally well done podcasts on here, can’t wait for more audio dramas to drop!!

### 5/5 — So good

*2021-12-21, version 1.0*

Such an awesome application!

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2021-12-16*

I am a huge fiction fan and having an app dedicated to fiction podcasts is awesome! Definitely makes it easier for me to find new fiction content from different creators. The app itself is simple and easy to use. Will be sharing with my friends!

### 4/5 — Reported bug fix for Followed Shows NOT WORKING!

*2023-10-18*

I’m appreciative of the app overall, but the reported bug fix is apparently still not functional. I downloaded the app to my iPhone 11 for the first time AFTER the reported bug fix. I am unable to save any shows I’d like to follow. They all disappear from my Followed Shows tab within minutes. I tried deleting my account & the app, then starting over with a different email, a new account, and a re-upload. This time, the Followed Shows tab listed ALL the shows as Followed when I opened the tab… and then they all disappeared, too. I tried following some shows after this, and they’re still disappearing.

Curious whether the bug fixes have gone through yet. I otherwise enjoy the app quite a lot. Would be nice to keep my favorite shows on the followed tab rather than having to do a search for them every time

### 4/5 — Adding genres is a huge step forward!

*2022-12-13*

This app is unique in that it has so much more to offer than any other podcast app in the App Store. Yes, there are bugs, but most recently, adding the genres has change the usage of the app for the better! I can easily find podcasts and stories just by the genre and that has increased my usage tenfold this great job
