I also had a sword went to fight the Dragon, but the sword didn’t take effect. Also, way too many Troll fights, I literally had 5 Trill battles in a row, and they are extremely powerful. I got the board game back in 1981 for Christmas when I was 11 years old and played it often. I updated the app with the 8/25 update. After turning the phone sideways (landscape), pressing start and selecting a kingdom and hero the app shuts down. I have an iPhone X. I’ve tried restarting my phone, deleting and reinstalling the app and it’s still not working. Hoping this is something that can be corrected quickly. It’s in development on kickstarter (really !) ### 3/5 — Good, not quite like the original. *2020-06-16, version 6.1.3* Played a lot of DT back in the day. This is a good but not a complete faithful version of the original. Differences: When you return to your home kingdom, you don’t not have the option to go to your Citadel and double your warrior strength. Events on the Move key are too rare. 90% of the time it just beeps and the turn is over. Plague, lost, and Dragon rarely if ever come up unlike the original. When you get cursed, it only beeps instead of giving the lost skirmish sound effect. In Original Brigand battles, even if you were fighting a band much larger than yours, you always had a chance to win a skirmish and keep you in the battle—maybe even win. This isn’t possible in the app. This detail, combined with the lack of warrior doubling, makes attacking the tower difficult and tedious. As I said, good, but not quite the feeling of the old game. ### 5/5 — The best game on the App Store *2020-06-11, version 6.1.3* It is so nostalgic, and is just like the actual game. Eventually the unit broke down and that was that. I’m not sure what made me think of it all these years later but I searched and found this app. I am amazed at the detail and the faithful recreation of the gameplay, from the exact sounds made by the unit to the appearance of the cels, tower, and game board. I am literally reliving a bit of my youth through an app which I would never have dreamed possible. The developer must have loved the game as much as I did, maybe more. However, since recent update I am unable to play game because it crashes right after opening the app. Hopefully they will fix this but for now I will be removing the app and go play the real Dark Tower. I saw this and had to have it since I love this game. I still have a working tower and I am glad I have this just in case. The sounds bring back memories of playing it on Christmas for the 1st time. I have played it for a little bit and noticed that I am unable to get into the menu screen without it crashing. Hopefully it will get fixed. I also wish there was a virtual game board so I can play completely play the game on my iPhone 4s. ### 2/5 — App crashes a lot now. *2025-12-13, version 7.5* This app is great and is the closest thing you’ll get to playing the actual game without owning the actual board game. It really needs to be updated. It has issues now. The fights tend to be won way too often and you win too much gold compared to the actual game. Also, the game crashes now, a LOT. I can’t even complete a game now. And a popup window keeps popping up saying “Network Not Connected”, getting in the way of everything. That popup actually caused a glitch that made it forget how many men I had and it locked me into a fight where I wasn’t allowed to retreat. I loved this app before it got all buggy. I wish it could be updated and repaired. Loved playing this growing up and this app adds such a fun new level to it.
