Takes multiple tries. The few times I got Waze to show up on the head unit display all I got was a static image. Utterly disappointed in the head unit and the pioneer brand. It doesn’t work. After updating to IOS 11 Waze stopped working. It’s been months since this issue occurred and there isn’t a fix and Pioneer hasn’t give any updates...this is ridiculous. No video is being relayed to the headunit and pioneer knows!!! They posted a foolish note on their website but that’s it. I would expect a company like pioneer to be able to update their apps to work with IOS11... ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work with iOS *2017-12-07, version 2.9.4* I bought the Pioneer receiver primarily to view Waze. It worked for the first month I owned the unit, but has been broken since the iOS update in the September/October timeframe. I had reached out to Customer Service and they advised me to contact Waze. As that is there partner, I informed them I expected them to resolve the issue. I suspect Apple found a way to close out App Radio. Pioneer should have been better prepared in this regard. I’m very disappointed in them an the way they are responding to us consumers. ### 1/5 — Great concept but.... *2017-12-06, version 2.9.4* This app has the potential to be great but it needs work. Waze will not open and work at all with this app. It wants to but it just can’t get there. My phone will show it connected and I can hear the voice through my radio but nothing on the screen. The main reason I wanted this app was so I could have a navigation head unit at half the price. Please fix this problem. When you do and it works for a while with no problems I’ll think about updating this review. Now, I’ve just got a blank screen on the phone and the head unit. Do the programmers at Pioneer have any idea what they’re doing? These aren’t just glitches: the program completely fails to work for anyone. ### 1/5 — Pioneer taking months to fix after iOS11 release *2017-11-20, version 2.9.4* I use with waze, and despite numerous reports the company fails to inform its customers if it is even aware or planning to fix. Just spent $400 on a radio plus my time to find 5 months in some of the main reasons I choose this no longer work. Terrible. I would avoid all pioneer products at this point. Definitely not a customer first attitude. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work With iOS 11 *2017-11-08, version 2.9.4* Waze on iOS 11 just goes to a black screen. There is a notice posted on the website and that a fix is being worked on, however that was months ago now. The developer beta for iOS 11 was released in June and there shouldn’t be an excuse for a fix taking this long. Been trying to get it for work for years ### 1/5 — What a Waste *2021-03-26, version 2.9.8* I’ve used this app now for about four years. At first, the app worked ok. But because I used it primarily for Waze, it was fine. Over the years, I’ve seen this app go downhill. It takes forever to get an update when Apple updates their operating system. Then the app dropped Waze. The final straw was when I got a new phone, the app stopped working altogether. I’m never buying Pioneer again. March 28, 2020 Soooo, my app was just updated. STILL DOESN’T WORK AT ALL! I still have a black screen and ithe app is useless. March 25, 2021 So, time for the annual update, and time to update my review. Except there is absolutely no change. This app still doesn’t work and hasn’t in a long time. I STILL get nothing but a black screen, and that is with trying everything including going directly to a supported app and deleting/downloading the app again. Pioneer Audio should be embarrassed at the record they have with this app, but I guess they just don’t care. ### 1/5 — Sph-da210 *2019-10-27, version 2.9.6* I’ve been trying to connect my iPhone 7plus to the sph-da210 but have not been successful in doing so, I follow all the instructions all the radio does is stay in black screen, apparently this is an issue that allot of people have(from what I have read on the internet). I have also bought the upgrade to some of the apps trying to see if that would help me connect but have been unsuccessful. I’ll be selling my pioneer stereo and going to a different brand. ### 1/5 — Embarrassing to say the least... *2019-08-18, version 2.9.6* I’ve tried every app every possible settings etc. and all I’ve been able to is wast a good amount of my time like honestly a combined week all together.. until they figure out what they are doing I wouldn’t download because the head unit is one of the best but it’s completely stops there everyone of there apps are garbage... please can we get something that’s usable you need to get a new development team as the ones you have must be working with the 80s Oregon trial apple computers that if they are a bunch of monkeys ya I think it’s monkeys ... ### 1/5 — Crap *2019-06-28, version 2.9.6* Paid over $500 for a receiver only to find over the next 6 months that pioneer doesn’t update the app and stopped support if Waze. Now you have to launch individual apps from your phone because the app radio screen freezes. Update*. You have to uninstall it and reinstall the new version for it to work again. I just days ago had a Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX installed in my 2001 Ford SuperDuty. Installer erroneously stated that the usb cable accessible via my glovebox was necessary for Apple CarPlay. Turns out CarPlay works just fine via Bluetooth. But I want Waze as well as podcasts for my commute. So I studied the pdf manual and found this app. Downloaded the app, plugged in the usb, and after allowing the Launch Through setting, Waze runs on the Pioneer with the podcast in a crawler on the bottom. An icon on the left end closes the crawler so that Waze takes up the entire display. ### 5/5 — Works for me *2018-04-04, version 2.9.5* I have the iOS 11.2.6 iPhone X and everything including Waze works for me. I have the 2330 model. That said, I still like car play better. 5 stars because it works fine! ### 4/5 — Problem connecting waze to pioneer *2017-10-29, version 2.9.4* Is this compatible for iphone 8plus? On my phone it shows being connected but the screen is black on my radio(avh-x2800BS) The only app that works with is appradio live. Waze use to show up on my screen before updated software on my phone to ios 11. Now when ever i open waze its just a blank screen and its showing connected? Their is no issue with my radio. How can it work? Is this a software issue? My radios software is up to date. ### 4/5 — Won't work *2017-02-01, version 2.9.3* **UPDATE** After updating to the latest OSI on my iPhone, the app has started working like it should. I have used it for three days now and it launches WAZE, NAVMII and Appradio Live without any problems. I hope that it continues so I will upgrade my rating to 4 stars. ---I bought a new Pioneer radio for my car. After installation, I downloaded Appradio Live. It powered up an worked fine the first day. Downloaded Waze and everything worked great. Day two, it wouldn't launch either app. I contacted Pioneer support and they told me I had to have Appradio so I downloaded it. Still nothing. My phone asks me if I want to launch Appradio Live and I "allow". Head unit says trying to connect. Nothing happens. On day one when I launched Live, the logo was in color when I opened the app but since then it is subdued. I can get to and change settings on my phone app but it still won't launch. Tired of trying. I guess that my expensive radio will just be just for answering Bluetooth calls. I would send radio back if it wasn't so hard to install. Come on Pioneer, if you are going to advertise this as a selling point for your radio at least get it to work. ### 3/5 — Waze does not work if you have iOS 11 *2018-01-17, version 2.9.4* If you have iOS 11 on your iPhone you will see a blank black screen on your car radio when you launch Waze on Pioneer AppRadio. This has been that way since September 2017. It is now January 2018 and there is no fix. 52% of all iPhones now run iOS 11 which means more than half the iPhone users cannot use this app to access Waze on their Pioneer radio screen. I’m using it with my new 601ex. Waze often crashes whenever you touch the screen more than once consecutively. However the most annoying thing is the app must stay open on your phone in order for it to work. For that I might as well run it on my phone. Period ### 2/5 — How to connect AVH 4000nex *2017-05-22, version 2.9.3* OK so I have been using this app for over two years. And because my Apple CarPlay isn't working properly I was really forced to kind of learn all the bugs and how to get around them. So this post is strictly to help someone who may have the same issues I had, just doesn't seem to connect. First if you are using an iPhone you need the lightning cable and the HDMI cable that attaches to the adapter that goes in the iPhone. In addition, you have to have the settings correct--- iPhone, AV adapter and the AppRadio will work--sometimes. What seems to help on the connection is rebooting the iPhone and then at times rebooting the radio. Yes difficult to do when you're driving of course. Luckily when my radio was installed I have a cut off switch that reboots the radio. I kind a like the app only because I can use WAZE instead of the traditional iPhone maps when in CarPlay.
