### 4/5 — Great App, needs polishing

*2023-09-13*

I’ve been trying out AQ and it has been very helpful in providing insight to and greater awareness of my mental state. The ‘AQ’ test on my Watch often freezes however and fails to provide a result after the 4 minute test.

### 3/5 — Suspected fake reports

*2023-04-09*

I did not use the app for few months, I did not use my Apple Watch for three days.

I open the app and I see it reports the last few weeks and even compare one week to the previous one. It shows intervals of calm and anxious.

I suspect the app is faking information.

**Developer response:** Dear AQ Member,

The AQ app analyzes your mental state as long as you wear your Apple Watch, without requiring you to use/open the AQ app during that period. So, AQ wouldn't have reported your mental states for three days when you did not wear your Apple Watch, but must have for other times when you did wear your Watch, even if you did not use the app during that period.

AQ passively pulls your vital collected by the Apple Watch and converts them into your mental state (anxious or calm) using our proprietary technology backed by research from leading global scientists and peer-reviewed research papers published in respected journals by Oxford University Press and National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Hope this clarifies how AQ works. In order for AQ to help our members improve their wellness, their trust in our science and the validity of our approach is critical. Please reach out to support@theaqapp.com for any other questions you may have.

Be mentally fit,
The AQ team.

### 3/5 — Complication on Apple Watch

*2022-06-20, version 3.5.4*

Complication on Apple Watch needs to be updated. It doesn’t look good.

### 5/5 — New approach to mindfulness

*2021-05-12*

I’ve been using this app ever since it came out and really love it. I’ve been meditating for a few years now but it’s really nice to see some tangible numbers behind it, it’s fascinating how much our pulse can tell us about or mental state and it’s ingenious that these guys figured out a way to mesure it with our phones. I especially enjoy the personalized meditations and have also gotten into a habit of measuring my AQ before and after certain activities, it’s really cool to see the change.

### 5/5 — Insightful and educational

*2021-05-11, version 1.2.1*

I’m really enjoying this app. I didn’t realize how often I get anxious, but now I can correlate events of my day and help myself prepare to lower my anxiety going into those situations.

Looking forward to where this idea goes.

See you on the Leaderboards!

### 5/5 — Awesome app!

*2021-05-10, version 1.2.1*

Mindfulness is super important and this app helps you easily prioritize it.

### 5/5 — Useful :)

*2021-05-10*

The tailored guided meditation has helped reduce my anxiety and focus when my mind is cloudy. It’s great especially while working from home but it’s easy to find a few minutes to meditate with this app wherever you are.

### 5/5 — Fantastic Mindfulness App

*2021-05-10*

I’m not one to typically use an app like this, but this is the best one yet! Measuring your heart rate and giving an analysis of your mental states makes this much more personally connected and makes you want to improve your scores. The fact that they also give you three options of commitment for each practice is also a plus if you simply don’t have the time. Would highly recommend this app to help with your mental health, especially during these trying times!

### 5/5 — Love this to assess well-being

*2021-05-10*

I’ve tried using assessments and other apps to get the well-being outcomes I’m looking for but AQ is the first to really understand how my body and mind work together to either inhibit or propel me forward. Great work and I look forward to seeing more apps developed by this company!

### 5/5 — Life changing

*2021-05-01*

I find it really hard to know my own state of mental wellness, and this apps tests and courses have been incredible. Thank you!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — AQ test never conpletes

*2025-02-21*

I tried the AQ test on the watch first and it just asked what my heart rate was and did nothing afterwards. Then I tried the phone, after another 4 minutes it asked me to guess my heart rate. I picked a number and waited another minute and a half watching the “Please wait” modal. It finally went away and nothing happened. The same screen saying “Calculating your AQ…”
Eventually, I tapped on the X at top right and it went to the beginning screen as if I hadn’t done anything yet. It’s too bad; it seems the app has been orphaned.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t allow signing in.

*2025-02-15, version 3.12.2*

Really wanted to give this a go but I couldn’t get signed in. Probably a good app if it was working.

### 1/5 — inaccurate, horribly unhelpful

*2024-07-31*

EVERY SINGLE DAY it says "looks like you've had a tough day!" "you were more stressed today than you normally are". EVERY DAY SINCE I GOT IT. It doesn't even have enough data to make that assumption in the first place. I can't even use it on my watch, it won't let me record or change anything or give me the results to my AQ tests. Complete waste of money and hope.

### 1/5 — AQ test did not work

*2024-02-26, version 3.10.1*

Tried it several times, nothing happens after the two minutes eyes closed

### 1/5 — Not at all accurate

*2023-11-14, version 3.9.1*

I have severe ptsd and anxiety. Several times, I would be in the middle of a significant anxiety attack that would require hydroxyzine and the app said I was calm or neutral. It never once caught actual anxiety. I think we have different definitions of calm—full on panic attack is not calm.

### 2/5 — Not great

*2025-04-23, version 3.12.2*

This app has never loaded any personalized trainings for me. Most days, it says “no data” for my current state even though my watch is connected and on my wrist.

### 2/5 — Significant questions about accuracy

*2023-11-13*

I really wanted to like this app. Things started out well and seemed to be providing accurate data. After a few days, I noticed the time was indicating “most recent” readings for 1.5 hours in the future. For instance, it was 10:05 pm when I checked the app, but the timeline indicated my most recent reading was for 11:50 pm that same day. Additionally, the AQ Test on the Apple Watch consistently freezes and the complication doesn’t display any information.

### 2/5 — Does not seem accurate

*2023-04-19*

It seems to be quite off. For example, I had a deadline today and I was stressed a lot of the day. My heart rate was also high (over 100 while I was sitting at my computer) but the app said I was mostly calm today when it was exactly the opposite/it shows my heart rate to be very elevated. It also said I was more calm today than usual which was not the case. This is just one example. Maybe it takes more than the 2 week free trial to start to understand you but I don’t want to pay $40 to find out if that’s true or not.

**Developer response:** Dear AQ Member,

The physiological measure of anxiety and calm at any moment is based on the variation in your heart rate compared to your baseline heart rate preceding that moment of time. It is not based on your absolute heart rate. So, you may still be calm at 100 bpm if your baseline heart rate preceding that was, say, 140 bpm. A sudden drop of 40 bpm in this case would physiologically put you in a calm state, even though your general heart rate at that moment was higher than usual.

AQ uses our proprietary technology that is backed by research from leading global scientists and peer-reviewed research papers published in respected journals by Oxford University Press and National Institutes of Health (NIH).

AQ does not need more than 2 weeks of data to accurately provide the assessments currently offered in the app. In order for AQ to help our members improve their wellness, their trust in our science and the validity of our approach is critical. We will therefore be happy to offer you an extended free trial period to allow you to subjectively verify the app's accuracy. Please reach out to support@theaqapp.com with your credentials in order to extend your free trial.

Be mentally fit,
The AQ team.

### 2/5 — Advertising on paid product?

*2023-02-07, version 3.8.2*

In my trial period right now, but I must say, having to tolerate the NFL "Fanxiety" tracker is a real downer, and a poor choice for inclusion in a paid product.

### 3/5 — Problem with the apps

*2023-06-17*

I really like the structure of this application and the benefits and knowledge it can bring. I wanted to take the paid version. Unfortunately, after about three exercises, the application on my cell phone don’t react anymore.
The "done" key does not react.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the application but the problem remained.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Insightful and educational

*2023-03-20*

I’m really enjoying this app. I didn’t realize how often I get anxious, but now I can correlate events of my day and help myself prepare to lower my anxiety going into those situations.

### 5/5 — Everyone with anxiety should use AQ

*2023-02-07*

Anxious people need to know their anxiety triggers so they can avoid or manage those situations. This app helps me understand my triggers by tracking my anxiety all day. I highly recommend AQ for anyone with anxiety.

### 5/5 — Great trainings!

*2023-01-10*

Great app! I especially like that it automatically uses my current mental health to send me personalized trainings each week. Now I don’t need to figure out myself what I should be doing to feel better. And trainings are pretty interesting too, eg TED talks, neuroscience, etc. 👍

### 5/5 — What a gift!!

*2022-12-01*

Saw their doctor on TV last week and downloaded the app. It’s incredible! It automatically tracks my anxiety, and is super accurate. I’m learning my triggers already. Thank you!

### 5/5 — AQ is my therapist

*2022-11-30*

This app is just like my therapist, without the cost of one. I really like its tracker that is helping me understand what in my life is good for my mental wellbeing.

### 5/5 — So well built & customized

*2022-04-27*

I don’t usually write reviews but this app is brilliant. It gives you tangible information about your stress levels, & gives you different types ways of being mindful & learning how to deal with your stress or anxiety or maybe you just want to get a better idea of what your stress levels are & how you’re doing. The fact that you can take actionable steps to do something with that data in one app is why I appreciate it so much.

### 5/5 — Best biofeedback app!

*2022-04-27*

AQ has helped me understand my anxiety triggers and what calms me down in my life…in just a matter of few months. That’s years worth of therapy, which I could never have afforded anyway.

### 5/5 — One of a kind!

*2022-03-13, version 3.2.1*

Strongly recommend for a healthy mental being!

### 5/5 — Love the wellness monitor

*2021-07-20, version 2.3.0*

I love the AQ monitor. I’m an anxious person, so it’s nice to have a monitor that tells me when I’ve been anxious for too long. It just syncs to my Apple Watch which I use for my workouts, so it’s nice that I can now use the same watch to also track my anxiety.

### 5/5 — Great app to train my mind!

*2021-05-13*

I’m always looking for ways to improve my productivity and reduce stress at work. I like how this app helps me measures my attention so I can see how I am improving over time. The meditations in the trainings are fun. I also like the questions they prompt after the meditations.
