### 2/5 — Paid for premium but it doesn’t work

*2026-03-05, version 4.11*

When I first got this app thought it was absolutely fantastic and I still do think that it is a quite a great app for people using aquariums. However I have paid for the premium version and sent countless emails to the email addresses that are provided as well as the support team through the app in regards to what’s happening I seem to have a glitch and I cannot use any of the premium features even though I have paid the $59.99 per year to use this app. I didn’t want to have to write a review to potentially get a response out of the app creators but hear I am.

### 4/5 — Helpful

*2025-12-13, version 4.9*

Much welcomed aide for enthusiasts.

### 2/5 — Asked for support didn’t get it

*2025-11-10*

I just want this to remind me to do the ‘tasks’. But it doesn’t give me notifications. Opening the app every morning is not what I want to do. It’s useless for the one thing I want. It also doesn’t change the date for the ‘next due’ if I’m late doing a task. I need it to automatically put the next one x days after the day I logged doing it. The only thing it does is syncs through the cloud which is good since both my husband and I maintain the tanks. But for now we’ve set up Apple reminders which were a pain. Please make this work.

**Developer response:** We have had multiple updates that should have corrected all of these issues for you. We apologize for the lack of communication due to the fact our comms were not working and streamlined. If you have any further feedback, please reach out to nathan@futrix.io. Thanks!

### 3/5 — Love the app but

*2025-11-02, version 4.7*

When I was using the ai, it said I needed to buy membership

### 3/5 — Wanted to like it, but…

*2025-09-25*

This app is well designed. It has that going for it. Great UI.
The UX however, not so much. Adding equipment to a tank is weird. You can’t add more than one filter or more than one heater to a tank. The inhabitants list separates males from females of the same species; why not just list “German Blue Ram (2m, 2f)” or something? Lists inhabitants by date modified, not alphabetical. Need a subscription ($60/yr) to have more than one tank. There are free apps that let you have unlimited tanks. Their fish database has incorrect information and pictures for many fish. Their database also has a suggested male/female ratio for every type of fish. That’s important for African cichlids…but not neon tetras (and I challenge anyone who thinks they can accurately sex juvenile neons). Their tank builder uses the incredibly outdated “1 inch of fish per gallon of water” rule, as it doesn’t take into account the bioload of the fish (a 6inch kuhli loach produces much less waste than a 3.5inch bristlenose pleco). It told me a 75 gallon, with 10 congo tetras and nothing else, would be overstocked. App has a ways to go. It’s back to Aquarium Log for me.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the detailed review, John — we really appreciate it! 🙏 In version 4.7 (1.11), we’ve refined tank logic, improved database accuracy, and added an AI toggle so users can set up tanks their way. Multiple filters, heaters, and better sorting are in our upcoming updates. Your feedback helps us evolve!

### 3/5 — Needs more work

*2025-08-22, version 4.4*

You can add fish and plants to your tank, but you can’t organize their names or put them into groups

### 3/5 — Good but not flexible

*2025-08-04, version 4.4*

Good fish tank app, with decent AI support. But it does not support Kaveman Aquatics flexible approach.

### 2/5 — Cant change male female below 1

*2025-05-09, version 4.2*

Cant change male female below 1

### 2/5 — Basic info that you cannot change or update. Take forever to get code.

*2025-05-01, version 4.2*

There’s better

### 4/5 — Fine

*2025-04-12, version 4.2*

App is good but it keeps glitching and taking me to the permissions

### 2/5 — Really? I can’t put 10 fish in 90 gallons?

*2025-03-23, version 4.2*

I tried building a 90 gallon tank. Added 4 angelfish and 6 coydoras and it tells me that I need a bigger tank?!!! Needs a lot of work still.

### 1/5 — App problem

*2024-10-14, version 3.10*

Signed up, got email verification code. Said it was expired as soon as I tried to enter it. Tried to resend code said account was invalid. I tried to create account again it said one already existed. So I tried to sign in but it said account is invalid….

### 2/5 — white screen

*2024-09-11, version 3.7*

I used and enjoyed the app for a few days, but ever since one of the updates the app is unseeable and I just get a white screen. I emailed support and didn’t get a response. very disappointing because I bought the annual subscription

### 1/5 — Lost access to my profile

*2024-09-08*

As the heading said I lost access to the app , so I redownloaded now I have to input all of the information on my four tanks. In addition to that I paid for a year and now it’s asking for money to upgrade. And there’s no way to contact anyone to correct this. I will file a dispute with Apple if I can.

### 1/5 — Not good

*2024-08-25*

Lost all my data with the latest update, and now charges for multiple tanks - fair enough if it was a paid feature originally, but to delete all the tanks then retroactively make them paid …

### 1/5 — Not good

*2024-08-24, version 3.3*

Missing a lot of fish species.
Doesn’t allow you to add anything to the tank that’s not in preset drop downs.
Missing some testing parameters.
Might be good for a beginner but I wouldn’t recommend it at this time nor will I be using it. Deleted it.
On top of all the above you have to pay a subscription.
There are way better apps for a fraction of the price and it’s a one time purchase for those.
Save yourself the hassle and try something else.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Paid for Pro Not Received

*2026-05-18*

I signed up for pro. I was charged. It shows on my credit card. The app will not acknowledge it. Seems to be a very common issue with this company. Are they hoping people won’t complain to get what they paid for? I don’t understand how you do business like this.

### 1/5 — Good concept bad execution

*2026-04-23, version 4.12*

I’ve tried this app multiple times and it just isn’t that good. I don’t have any suggestions or answers but the app is more annoying than anything. Would rather just use Google if I have questions or need to figure something out.

### 1/5 — Need help

*2026-04-12*

I first subscribed with a yearly subscription and when I tried to add a 2nd aquarium it kept telling me I needed to subscribe. I checked in the App Store, my bank, and my iCloud account and all showing I was charge and indeed subscribed. Now after waiting a week after submitting a ticket with devs. When I try to login I keep getting, “type ‘Null’ is not a subtype of type ‘num’ in type cast”… so I went to iPhone storage and offloaded app and reinstalled and reloaded and it’s still not working. Can a Dev please help.

**Developer response:** We apologize for the subscription issue and appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Our team is actively working to resolve this on our end.
In the meantime, please email me directly at nathan@futrix.io, and I will personally ensure your premium access is confirmed immediately.
Thank you for helping us improve Aquabuildr!

### 1/5 — Pro not working

*2026-01-04*

Paid for the pro subscription and I am told that my payment failed even though it went through and I can see that I have an active subscription. When I try to just purchase it again it tells me I already have the subscription.

### 1/5 — Customer Service is Nonexistent

*2026-01-01, version 4.9*

I had a billing question and contacted customer service twice and got no response at all. Seems like a good app however that killed it for me.

### 1/5 — No help

*2025-12-06, version 4.9*

Paid for pro subscription, ap never allowed additional features. Emailed developer,no response. Took my money.

### 1/5 — Premium never worked after paying for it. No help from support

*2025-11-16, version 4.7*

I bought the premium because it looked like a good app and I wanted the premium features. After purchasing it never worked, I have contacted support twice and have never heard back. Do not get this app

### 1/5 — AI recommended tank sizes are off

*2025-09-13, version 4.6*

10 Chili rasboras need a minimum of 14 gallons? 10 neon tetras need a minimum of 28 gallons? Meanwhile 10 cardinal tetras need a minimum of 22 gallons. This app and the AI are shilling for Big Aquarium. I’ll stick to AqAdvisor.com

### 1/5 — Great idea, but falls short

*2024-12-29, version 4.0*

This app is a great idea, unfortunately it’s limited and therefore functionality isn’t there.

I was hoping to support CaveMan, after trying the free version out I wasn’t willing to pay for the upgrade…..

The data base for typical cichlids (ie. cynotilapia afra cobue) is small and you can’t use the app as it’s intended.

Adding reminders of certain dates it’s difficult, creating a personalized remind to change my purigen in 6 mos was impossible.

Perhaps as more updates roll out things will improve, as of Jan 2024 this isn’t an app to that many will find useful.

### 1/5 — can’t sign up

*2024-11-15, version 3.10*

a pop up keeps happening trying to sign up that says i need to be a ‘developer, user or admin’ and nothing else can be done

### 5/5 — Beautiful distraction from the real world!

*2026-01-27*

This is an app dedicated to the passion and love for our scaley babies and all the care we give them!

### 5/5 — Honest review.

*2025-06-22*

I enjoy the concept , but will you be incorporating all fish species? For example I see a lot of common fish like cichlids but I don’t see piranha groups. Please let me know if this is a group that’ll be added. Thanks 🤞🏽

### 5/5 — New update brings real value!!!

*2024-09-03*

What was once a good idea that wasn’t quite there is now very usable!! Still missing some features like tank backups for import/exporting to avoid having to re-enter data, some fish I’d like to see added/supported (like the Hillstream Loach, or many non-bristlenose plecos (like my leopard pleco!) With this new update, I can finally abandon my spreadsheet!! Thanks for your hard work devs!
……………………………………..
Update: much respect to the devs! Thank you very much for adding my fish!!! ❤️😅 The UX has also gotten so much better for adding fish since I left my original review. The biggest thing would be what I suggested in a YT comment on the release video saying a type-ahead search that would avoid a double layer drop-down would be more intuitive. So surprised and pleased to see it implemented as well, and so quickly 😍 I’m sure that one was already in the backlog before I suggested it tho 😄

So excited to hear that you guys have also added the import/export features to the backlog!!! 🫡

**Developer response:** Thank you for your valuable feedback. We have added the import/export feature to our development backlog and plan to implement it in the near future. Additionally, we are pleased to inform you that we are actively working on a custom addition feature, which will allow users to add any species not currently available in the app. This feature is anticipated to be available by September. We also appreciate your fish recommendations, which you can expect to see in the app within the next two weeks.

### 5/5 — Amazing and free

*2023-05-22*

App is absolutely amazing, it really explains how to set up a new aquarium/tank for new beginners. It covers almost everything and it’s free. It helps new comers like me understand how to set up a new tank. It helps us through all the tough and complicated parts of setting up an aquarium. Overall amazing.

This app is amazing. Makes it easy and intuitive for me to build my aquarium at home. look forward to seeing what more they come out with.
