### 2/5 — Inconsistent Results

*2023-07-25*

I had this app prescribed for a college course and unfortunately I had some pretty poor results when I compared them with a survey. I also was unsuccessful in getting any tree diameters. I was using iPhone 13 Pro, the mobile reception is poor and the trees extremely large. I really hoped this would work better. Very happy to give more detailed feedback.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. At the moment it is hard to measure the diameter of large trees (diameters larger than 1.5 meters)

You could also take a look at the videos on youtube to understand how you will get best results.

Please send more detailed feedback to support@arboreal.se

### 2/5 — 3 different heights 4 same tree

*2023-02-27*

I gave the app 2 instead of 1 star bc operator error is factored in. I downloaded the app bc of the good reviews and went outside to calculate the height of a tree I want to cut down. I opened the app and couldn’t find any instructions but it directed me to point at the tree trunk, did that and without further instructions I pointed at the bottom of the tree and hit the picture button and then pointed at the top (I was about 25’ away from the tree). It said I was too close so I walked away up a slight hill. The dot was off to the side of the trunk but I thought somehow the app still knew what to do and I tried to get it as close to the trunk as possible. I shot the top of the tree and got a measurement of 31’. To be sure, I tried again and it measured about 48’ and a third time it measured 25’. Waste of time and dangerous if you were to base a cut off this incredibly unreliable data. My suggestion would be to get a better app developer. Thorough instructions should be offered on the first page. I shouldn’t have to tell you that. I wasted my free measurements on just trying to figure it out. I need this type of measurement device but wouldn’t use these guys because of the time I wasted measuring (and writing this dumb review)

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear about your experience.

The problem is probably caused by either a hardware problem on your device or some strange way to use the app.

To check if it is a hardware problem, test apples own measurement app "Measure". If it doesn't work well, it is a hardware problem.

Please take a look at the Tutorial video here: https://youtu.be/trAZPfany8Y

It shows how to use the app. Good luck with your measurement. / Johan

### 2/5 — Forgot my phone already does this

*2022-11-01*

I downloaded this app and then remembered that’s what the measure app on you’re phone does. Good I guess to verify?

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear about mistake.

The measurement app on your phone is very good to measure objects that are lower than yourself.

You could measure the height of a tree with this app and most trees are higher than your self.

Please consider change the review.

### 3/5 — Portée du LiDAR ?

*2022-05-21*

**Developer response:** Sorry to see that you gave us only two stars in review.

You could measure the crown width and crown height by tapping the three dots after you have measured the heights.

It is a good idea to be able to export the images. You are the first person that have this feature request. We like to make features that many people wants and if more people ask for that feature we will build it.

Have a nice day / Johan

### 5/5 — Far better than alternative manual methods

*2021-04-08*

Not perfect — it would be helpful to include usage information or a link to a help file. The newest version has the very nice addition of the gps position for mapping the measurements.

It is sooo much better than using the stick method for height and trying to get a clear path for measuring the distance to the tree or trying to get measurements under the tree for crown width.

### 4/5 — Great concept- I wish it also had tree diameter

*2021-02-25*

I think it works well, you definitely want to walk far away from the tree to get better results.
I will know how accurate it is when the actual tree survey is done.
But it worked for my needs, not perfect but definitely better than just guessing.
Please add a DBH measurement option. Thanks.

### 1/5 — Did not get to measure one tree.

*2020-09-03*

Before I had even learned how to use this app (about 5 trial runs) it said that I was “Out of Measurements” and need to pay $8 to continue.
I had been practicing on my houses chimney as I know the height. And trying to deal with a chain link fence in the way. I pressed the buttons a few times to get a feeling how to use it and it shut down.

Very disappointing could not measure one tree.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear about your experience. Maybe a manual tool is a better option for you.

### 2/5 — Confused

*2020-05-23*

I’ve been trying everything but it won’t locate the tree trunk so I can’t mark it

**Developer response:** Thanks for feedback.

Here is some suggestions:
1. Close the app. Open another app and then Arboreal.
2. Update to latest iOS-version
3. Clean the lens of the camera
4. Walk closer
5. Test Apples app Measure. If it doesn’t work then you probably have a broken sensor of some kind in your phone.
6. Uninstall Arboreal and install it again.

### 1/5 — Funktioniert nicht

*2026-04-21*

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-08-16*

I have an approximately 50-60 ft Norfolk pine and was trying to a good measurement. It says mark the tree at 1.3 meters but there are no controls and the screen was black. I gave the app permissions to the camera and it sees the tree now but none of the buttons do anything. I don’t see any instructions on how this app is supposed to work.

**Developer response:** It sounds like there is a problem with the permissions. Go to the settings on the iphone and make sure you have given permission to the app.

Then close the app by swiping it off the screen. Wait 5 seconds so the memory is cleared and then open the app.

### 1/5 — simply doesn’t work

*2023-09-03*

just keeps saying ‘turn phone upward’, then ‘aim at tree’, then ‘turn phone downward’ no matter how close or far i get from the tree.

to the developer: yes, i know. that button never becomes enabled for me. it remains disabled no matter what i do.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. When it say aim at tree you should press the button.

Then it should work. Good luck with your measurement.

### 1/5 — Rubbish

*2023-07-06*

A very bad app very laggy i would rather climb up a tree with a tape measure lol

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. I think you must be a very experienced climber if you can climb a tree in 15 seconds 😁.

### 1/5 — Bad

*2023-07-06*

Bad just bad

**Developer response:** Please give some more feedback. What problem did you encounter? You could mail support@arboreal.se if you want.

### 1/5 — Thought it could be fun to try out, but…

*2023-04-30*

It didn’t work for me. It loads, but won’t measure my trees. I’ll stick to my protector and plum bob, thanks.

**Developer response:** Sounds strange, please contact support@arboreal.se and we will try to solve the problem.

### 1/5 — Worked great on the trial and then..

*2022-06-16*

If it worked as well when I paid for the app as it had during the trial I would have giving it 5stars however, not the case it won’t work at all now after paying the lifetime measurement fee when during the trial it measures exact height of a aspen I am felling . Only to pay and not work again what a scam. thanks

**Developer response:** Sounds very strange. Please contact our support and we will solve the problem. A restart of the app will probably solve the problem. Send an email to support@arboreal.se

### 1/5 — Useless App with no help or Support

*2022-05-17*

What an absolutely pointless app. No instructions or guidance and no help or support. Don’t bother with it.

**Developer response:** Please visit our website www.arboreal.se for instructions how to use. If you need support , send your questions to support@arboreal.se.

### 1/5 — Eliminates height guessing game

*2021-08-01*

Couldn’t get it to work correctly. Support stuck with me via email to even sending me a personal self video of themselves measuring the height of a tree. Worth it.
Really needed this for commercial drone work, solved a lot of pre-flight issues by knowing an appropriate low altitude clearance necessary for mapping.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the nice words. Good luck with your Drone flights.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Please add manual distance input

*2026-06-28*

There are a few trees that I couldn’t measure because the trees are inaccessible. Could you please add the option to add distance manually in your next update? So far very good app.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review.

The next version (5.70) that will be released in July 2026 will have the possibility to enter the distance manually. Just press the arrow to the right upper corner instead of marking the tree from close distance.

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2026-03-23*

I have compared manual measurements with this app and it is very accurate as long as it’s used appropriately. There is always the chance of user error but when used as described it works well. Would love to have a feature to go back and add a photo of the tree if you forget to load it while capturing the data. Would also love if it calculated the age of the tree for you. Still have to do this part separately. Would also love if it included gps coordinates.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review. I will add the feature to add a photo of the tree afterwards next week.

It saves the gps-coordinates if you share the gps-location with the app. It is accessible in the export and the detailview of the tree.

// Johan

### 5/5 — Works great if you watch instructions

*2025-07-20*

Measurements are fairly consistent with good technique.

However, I can’t get the diameter measurement to work on my iPhone 15 pro.

### 5/5 — Ancient tree inventory

*2025-06-03*

I use this app every day to record ancient and veteran trees, mainly in Epping Forest. Easy to use and adds more information to protect and preserve our trees. The developer Johan is easy to contact too

### 5/5 — Great for economically and efficiently managing trees.

*2024-01-06*

I have been using Arboreal Forest for over a year now in my HOA Landscape Committee tasks. We manage about 1600 trees in our urban green spaces. With this app, I have been mapping and measuring large numbers of trees in about 30 seconds per tree and then downloading that list into spread sheets to use for inventory updates and creating tree maintenance work orders. It has helped us immensely in our efforts to manage an urban forest on a limited budget.

Johan, the author of this excellent app, has been very helpful with advice, bug fixes, and feature requests. I highly recommend this app as a great tool for arborists and anyone else that need to manage tree maintenance.

**Developer response:** Great to hear that you have found our application useful for urban forest management.

### 5/5 — Excellent tool for urban forest management

*2023-11-12*

Our HOA landscape committee uses this for efficient tree measurements. I average less than 30 seconds per tree to gather all pertinent measurements. I then download this data to a spreadsheet for updating inventories, creating work orders, and creating Google Maps overlays. I have been using this app for about a year now on an iPhone 13 and it is now a key tool in our urban forest management program.

**Developer response:** Great to hear that you have found our application useful for urban forest management.

### 5/5 — Accurate and Easy to Use

*2023-08-18*

I had to measure a huge Eastern White Pine and started with my Suunto clinometer and a 100 foot tape and took 3 different readings from different locations. Then I tried the app and carefully followed the easy directions and took another three readings. All of these readings were within 1 percent of each other and within 1 percent of my clinometer reading. The height was 140.2 feet using three readings from each of the two methods. I am a retired forester and familiar with tree measurements.
A couple of tips. You need to be able to see the very top of the tree and the base of the tree. You need to go out a hundred feet. You can zoom on your phone to get the crosshairs on the top and base of the tree. Don’t drink coffee before trying to take precise measurements or if you do put the phone on a tripod, but only for high accuracy. Newer phones have Lidar and that technology is getting better all the time.
Great app and this New Hampshire forester won’t be hauling around a 100 foot loggers tape anymore.

### 5/5 — Cannot understand why some scored it low!

*2023-08-17*

Nearly didn’t download this app due to some negative reviews. But I did and it is brilliant. I read the instructions on how to use it before I did my first measurement. I then did the 5 free measurements for 5 different trees and compared the results with the Suunto Clinometer and tape measure method. Results were very close matches with less than 5% individual variance and only 0.5% if taken overall. This is well within the error variance found in other studies on tree height measurements.
Just as accurate and much easier to use. I will definitely be paying for additional usage.
And of course, you only really know if such measurements are accurate if you climb or fell the tree!

**Developer response:** Thanks for testing the app and I agree that the only way to know is to fell the tree. The Suunto clinometer is not the truth, but should be close to the truth.

### 5/5 — Super!

*2023-01-04*

Very quick and easy measuring tool with a nice tutorial video on the web side. Thank you very much for this useful app.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the klnd words!

### 5/5 — Tutorial medição de diâmetro de copa e DBH

*2022-11-19*
