Arcgis MAPS are FANTASTIC, but this APP is a disaster!

This app is great for collecting data when we are in the field and to review later. The app itself crashes often and doesn’t load or submit information. Tried back in the office on WiFi and still had loading issues. Logging in right now has been a pain because it keeps cycling instead of connecting. Hopefully it is fixed or improved soon.

Bare minimum functionality, constant logouts, arbitrary updates that ruin old workflows, snapping sets the snapped point’s z score to zero, the problems are infinite and the solutions come never

Downloading offline maps for our program has been really frustrating. Tons of bugs, app crashing, downloads stopping, and struggles to an area downloaded, even after confirming there is space available on the phone and the map to download is configured and set up correctly. Really enjoy this software when it works but the offline download has made me dread this app

It’s hard to believe that large companies and municipalities still use this app. It’s completely unreliable and filled with problems and glitches. If you looking to waste time, money and productivity, this is that app for you.

Got charged $36 for the app what’s the go with that?

**Developer response:** Please contact your administrator regarding this. The ArcGIS Field Maps app is a free download from the store, but various functionality and the maps provided to you by your administrator require a subscription. Regardless none of the cost should equate to $36, so please make sure to reach out to your admin!

The new update changed the hitbox size when selecting items on the map and it is incredibly frustrating. The level of precision required to tap on an item on the map is insane. 75% of the time it takes MULTIPLE attempts to select something. It’s so insane and frustrating. PLEASE FIX!!!!!!!!!!!

When this app works, it is unmatched as long as you are already in the esri ecosystem. HOWEVER, it frequently freezes, crashes on startup, and offline downloads fail.

I rely on this app for work and it crashes so often. It also has trouble loading when signal isn’t ideal. I’m an ecologist, so signal usually isn’t ideal. I love that I can set up symbology and fields for recording data ahead of time, making it seamless to transfer data into ArcGIS. But that’s all useless if the app won’t load or crashes in the field.

Field Maps continuously crashes on me while trying to input data. Doesn’t matter if I reset the app, restart my phone, or check for updates. Extremely frustrating. Fix the app, Esri!!

The app crashes quite often. Can’t download offline maps for any square footage. I try to load a map that is literally 100 sq feet and it fails every time. Horrible optimization and extremely unreliable online and offline.

What’s the point of a mapping app that doesn’t record tracks? It requires running a separate app to record tracks. So just use the one other app and ditch field maps.

I will like to add that ESRI reached out to inform me they have a “stream” feature, which is their version of tracking. But it turns out you have to stop “streaming” to take a waypoint or view another map. That is extremely inconvenient. Other apps get this right. But ESRI continues to phone it in. 

Only gets 1 star because no stars is not an option.

**Developer response:** ArcGIS Field Maps records tracks into a location sharing service. You can also record a GPS log into a line or area feature layer using GPS streaming. No other app is required for either of these experiences.

I use this app for work and it’s not very good at all. It has a ton of bugs, it’s frustrating to use, and we use it to cut wood so we need the dot to follow us, and it’s everywhere. You can never tell where you are. It has potential, but there’s been 1 or 2 updates in the past years with it, and it seems to get worse, never better. On behalf of everyone who uses this for working in the woods, get Avenza.

With recent updates, this fails almost every time I try to upload photos and several attempts to save are unsuccessful.

When using field maps my little blue current location marker is turned off until I press the little arrow in the top right corner. Moving my map around also automatically turns this feature off, causing me to re-apply it every time I click somewhere on the map. It would be a lot easier if this toggle was just turned on permanently and never turned off. Just like when using Apple Maps or Google maps. 

Then your app would be perfect :)

The app constantly quits and will not reopen until it is deleted and re-downloaded, which makes it pretty much entirely useless

I don’t think it is fair that this app in 2026 has only 2.5 stars. We have been using this for years and yes it had its moments but it had been improved so much since then.

One of the better maps is one based on “National Geographic World Map”.

What’s better about it? It shows a lot more permanently flowing water sources. And we all know that you can’t live 3 days without water. You’re on your last legs due to dehydration. And there’s a small stream only 1/4 of a mile away. 

This app and a National Geographic World Map could be the difference between life and death. Call up the app and do a couple of screenshots of the area you’ll be in beforehand with streams that don’t show up on Google Maps and the like.

I often screenshare my fieldmaps app onto a television or projector screen for my workplace. I would like to be able to rotate the app into landscape mode so the screenshare fills up the whole television screen. I know I-pads have this feature for Fieldmaps so I would like to see the same feature for I-phones as well please.

As title says, FieldMaps is much better than Collector. The improvements being made the app since its release from Beta has been fantastic. I especially love the latest couple versions introducing form calculations and contingent values. Both of these are going to be hugely useful for streamlining field-based workflows!!

Generally a good app for the work I do. Would love if yall could somehow make fieldmaps compatible with Apple CarPlay.

Has potential to make your data work for you in amazing ways if you have the technical background to set it up correctly. 
My biggest gripe is that it really needs an update that allows your location icon to show you which way you are pointing. This is a very basic navigation feature that many apps include and esri is really slacking not including this yet. 
Would also like the compass feature to be more readily accessible. I’m am trying to get my agency folks to adopt FieldMaps more broadly and it still doesn’t have features that a handheld Garmin GPS has. You really gotta show people which way they are pointing and a direct route to their chosen location to traverse wooded landscapes.
