### 1/5 — Such a Sham!!!

*2021-01-22*

Bogus site/app and unable to request support from App website suggestion

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2020-07-28*

I love this magazine and read it on the computer frequently. I am extremely disappointed with the app. It is very hard to read.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2019-12-08*

No way to get forgotten password! No way to get into a subscription I paid for. No way to contact for for help to access!

### 1/5 — Almost Non-Functional

*2019-11-11*

I have subscribed to the digital edition of this interesting content magazine for over 3 years, but after some updates on the App, it is almost unreadable, slow and cumbersome to load and navigate. Save the frustration. I would recommend paying a bit more for the paper edition.

### 1/5 — Interesting content, terrible app

*2019-09-08*

This app is like a bad brochure-ware site. Constant authentication issues, no sharing capability, and ads so bad they’re funny. Too bad, because lots of the content is quite interesting.

### 1/5 — Simply doesn’t work

*2019-02-13*

Multiple times I have tried to open issues of the magazine, but it does not work. Pages do not show up. I rarely give a bad review, but this app does not work.

### 1/5 — App is broken

*2019-01-31*

Installed the update and unable to read magazine on my iPad running iOS 12.1.3

### 1/5 — Not Really Free

*2018-10-01*

Supposedly a free app; but, if you want to read anything, you have to pay for it. The (mobile friendly) website contains free content. So should the app. I have deleted the app.

### 1/5 — Raise Hell With the Magazine Staff

*2018-04-09*

Interesting to note that Archaeology Magazine folks are devoted to looking at the past but haven't seemed to realize through their studies that societies (and magazines) fail for not looking towards the future. Gave the app one star and the way they're going that will gradually fade away to nothingness.

### 1/5 — Crap company Impossible to cancel’

*2018-01-19, version 2.3.0.892*

I purchased this on the App Store two years ago and can not cancel my subscription! There is no way to do it!!
Then they turned me over to a collection agency in New York for $14.97!!!
Stay away from them and get National Geographic.

### 1/5 — This app is maddening

*2017-02-03*

No matter how many times I try to purchase a subscription it fails. How much money are you losing???

### 1/5 — Can't read on more than 1 device

*2016-12-24*

Unable to create a login- even through prompted to login.
Can't read on more than 1 device - had I known this, I would have purchased on my iPad once I got home vs my iPhone. It's easier to read longer periods on the iPad. Highly disappointed.
Content is great.

### 1/5 — Impossible to Create a Login

*2016-01-23*

Been reading this magazine in printed for form for over 20 years. This digital version does not seem to allow a paid subscriber to create a login, even though there is a prompt to “login".

### 1/5 — Buyer Be Aware

*2015-01-09*

The app is the least of my issues. FYI Archaeology does not provide any digital delivery of their content. The digital content delivery managed by third party's. At least two companies, one for the subscription and the other for actual delivery. I ordered subscription, they delivered one issue, subscription ended. Not to bore everyone with all the issues over several weeks, I will sum it up as TERRIBLE TO NON-EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I would suggest NOT ordering the digital edition. Archaeology is a fine publication, order the print if you are inclined to order anything.

### 1/5 — Broken app - Avoid

*2014-12-31, version 2.2.0.632*

Great magazine in print, by app will not work on my iPad - save your money and avoid it.

### 1/5 — Teacher

*2014-08-05*

I just subscribed to this magazine yesterday, signing up for immediate digital access. I am disheartened that I cannot login on the app. It doesn't recognize my email address, even though it's the same email address the receipt was sent to. The app is useless to me in this state. Sigh.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Great site horrible app

*2025-07-23*

The faults with the app are too numerous to mention but as others have said the lack of password reset ability and inability to work with customer service top the list.

### 1/5 — No longer works

*2022-09-20*

Just updated my iPad and the magazines no longer load.

### 1/5 — Paid yearly subscription

*2022-06-16, version 4.10.3*

But does not work. Paid before name and password accepted.

### 1/5 — Well that was a waste

*2022-06-10*

Bought the digital version, their own app was a big draw. Downloaded and it says “no content”. I guess there is no more app

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2022-01-11*

This app is awful. It won’t stay logged in, and once it logs me out it won’t let me log back in. I’ve deleted and reinstalled innumerable times. Garbage!

### 1/5 — Won’t stay logged in

*2021-11-25*

I wish this app would STOP logging me out all the time!

### 1/5 — Clunky and you can’t read issues after your subscription expires.

*2021-10-24, version 4.10.3*

Love the content but the app makes it an effort to read. It simply presents an image of the page which makes the font small. (using iPad Mini). You can zoom in but then you have to keep moving the picture around as the layout is in columns. Another annoyance is that when you close the app and return later to continue reading, it doesn’t remember where you were. But my biggest issue with Archaeology Magazine is that when your subscription expires, you no longer have access to the issues for your subscription year. What a scam. I never did get to read the last issue.

### 1/5 — Apple subscription

*2021-08-20, version 4.10.3*

You still have corrected this not showing Apple subscribers as being logged in or utilize our Apple account

Great magazine

Piss poor UI/UX app

### 1/5 — This review does NOT reflect the publication but the app

*2021-04-22*

I love the magazine, I always have, but the app has problems. There’s no place to reset a password. I was locked out of my account for almost 2 months but got back in thanks to customer service. And at times it says that a magazine that I am supposed to have access too is locked and I have to pay $4.99 for it ( I pay for the year not by issue) however I can still read it fully by clicking the preview button. Again love the publication and I will continue to read them, I just wish the app was better.

### 1/5 — WARNING! Do Not Bother!

*2021-04-20, version 25894957*

Clunkiest, non-functioning, app on The Store. Last updated 2 years (!) ago. Read the reviews. Not one of them lies. Except for the 5 and 4 stars. This is Archaeology Magazine. You would expect more from them. NatGeo, Smithsonian, level stuff. This ain’t even self-published Amazon good. Absolute garbage. But the articles are good. If you could read them. You know those reviews that say ‘i’d give 0 stars if i could’? Well, this is a perfect example. STAY AWAY!

## Most praised reviews (4 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I love this magazine!

*2019-07-27, version 25894957*

I’ve been a National Geographic: History fan for a while, but I hate the direction that company going. Don’t get bought out, please

On another note, I bought the app subscription since I am Canadian, and the paper option offers no savings for me. I love the app, though. I am making lots of notes on my iPad. I love the articles about Pompeii and Mesoamerican sculptures.

Request: Please offer a highlight option on the app. It would make finding important info easier. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Subscribe at archaeology.org!

*2019-02-07, version 25813221*

THEN it will give you login info that you can use on the app.

Gorgeous app, clickable table of contents, just what I wanted. :)

### 3/5 — Can’t read on more than one device I own

*2018-04-10*

I would have to pay for multiple subscriptions to have it on all my devices.

I love the magazine, just wish on my Apple devices it would allow to be restored on all of them.

Please consider this when updating the app and also consider larger print!

### 3/5 — Great magazine, dreadful app

*2016-10-09*

Just subscribed & wish I'd gone through Zinio instead. App is very unstable, crashing 4 times in the half hour I've been trying to read the latest issue. Very disappointing, wish I could cancel my sub & start again with Zinio.
