L'applicazione architettour trasforma la lettura da operazione statica e passiva in un atto che, con curiosità, spinge a muoversi per meglio comprendere e porsi nuove domande. 
Nell'impostazione del lavoro, la scelta di incrociare il criterio cronologico e la prossimità fisica delle opere ha indotto a precise scelte, escludendo edifici in qualche caso importanti, ma lontani dai percorsi prescelti; per essi si è provveduto a fornire, per ogni capitolo, riferimenti utili alla loro individuazione. 
Secondo un analogo principio, i profili biografici sono stati tracciati esclusivamente per alcuni autori le cui opere figurano negli itinerari, trascurandone altri, almeno altrettanto significativi. 
Si segnala infine che i testi citati in bibliografia non costituiscono il repertorio completo delle fonti di informazioni, ma una selezione che si è ritenuto opportuno proporre per orientare ulteriori approfondimenti.
