The iPad version is exactly the same scaled up and oriented for portrait use. Overall, it's a useful melody sketch sequencer that one can chain up to eight patterns of various lengths so you can keep it simple or make a complex melody. Each pattern can be set separately to a number of pattern types available e.g. As Played, Up/Down, Inward/Outward, Low Pedaltone Descending, Douple, Octuple, Follow Octave, Random, etc. Tempo relies on itself as a source using standard Midi Clock or can track timing from other sources. While MIDI as a timing source is good and reliable with no strange timing artifacts, it could use Alberton LINK so I wouldn't have to use another app like MIDI Link Sync. ### 4/5 — Understanding dawns *2015-10-29, version 1.4* For anyone who can't get a sound from this, it's because the app is purely a controller, without its own voices. Just load up a midi compatible synth, point this app at it, and bingo! Once I understood that, the app is actually quite innovative and fun. Possibly even useful to sonic dabblers, making IOS music. Okay, there's no AudioBus compatibility, but if you're controlling an app that is compatible, no problem. Using this method we can also record into a second or third app via AudioBus. Nic ### 4/5 — Read description *2015-02-20* To the people complaining that the app does not produce sound, if you read the description it clearly says the app does not produce sound on its own; It has to be connected to a synth. It is not cool to leave a bad review of a product for not doing something that the description said it doesn't do. You have to run other audio apps through it to hear sound. So now it has a bunch of bad reviews because people are idiots and can't read. At least read the description before you post a neg review. I have most of the best arps on IOS and this is one of my favourite's. Midi clock sync is well implemented. The patterns this thing creates are great. I’ve tried soft and hard reset - still same. For those who make music or perform live with iOS apps ### 5/5 — Great app *2018-09-15, version 1.4.2* Only seems to work as a midi controller, which is fine with me, I love midi controllers, as long as there are enough synths, and there certainly are enough synths available for ios, maybe too many. Just kidding, there are never enough. Arpist is great but it seems to be forgotten in the fog of the ios rush of app production. I hope the developers make sure it keeps working going forward with all the IOS operating system updates. Arpist is so much fun. Yes, fun is all that matters, isn't it. And can you believe it all the advanced features have gone free now! Makes sequencing much more evocative. Ps... Its been said but needs to be said again. You must plug this into a device that can receive midi note input.
