## What is Artful SEL?

Artful SEL™ helps kids ages 4–12.  It uses sensory games to help kids find calm through art, rhythm, and mindful activities.

Artful SEL is a calming emotional learning app created for children ages 4–12. Through art, rhythm, breathing, and storytelling, children practice skills that help them recognize emotions, settle their bodies, and feel more steady.

Guided by a friendly panda, children move through a gentle calming pathway while parents can support and observe progress in a dedicated parent section.
Artful SEL supports emotional regulation using rhythmic art activities, guided breathing, positive affirmations, and SEL stories. All activities are designed to feel supportive and encouraging, not corrective.

The app was created by educators and mental health professionals.  It is inspired by neuroscience research that emphasizes rhythm, repetition, and connection as supports for regulation. This bottom-up approach helps children feel calm and connected before focusing or problem-solving.

Key activities include Pixel Pics and Rhythmic Reveal, where children tap to a calming beat to unlock soothing art images; Dance, Panda, Dance, where kids stay on rhythm to animate their panda through playful dance themes; Breathing Prompts with animated guides that teach calming techniques children can use anytime; SEL Social Stories that support routines and emotional understanding; and Panda Paws and Rewards, which allow children to customize their panda companion with outfits, pets, and backgrounds.

We absolutely loved using this app for our 9 and 12 year old. There were lots of options to help calm and regulate kids emotions and each activity held their attention. The kids particularly liked the music section and the customization of the characters as they earned rewards. Highly recommend!

As a parent, we often feel like we are firefighting-reacting to meltdowns rather than preventing them.  Artful SEL has completely shifted that dynamic in our household.  Instead of just “distracting” my child during a tough moment, this app actually empowers them to focus on creative brain-based activities.  The prompts are fun and imaginative, making “emotional work” feel like play rather than a lesson.  It’s intuitive enough that my child can navigate to a favorite activity and use the app when feeling a certain way, which is the ultimate goal of self-regulation.  I would highly recommend this app for any parent looking to trade tantrums for tools!
