The device locked up on me a couple of times and had to be turned off and back on again. Sometimes there is an annoying buzz-kill sound interruption when switching between parts. Charged it fully and battery life was nowhere near 5 hours. I got maybe 2 hours use before it quit on me. Quantization seems pretty sketchy at times. Also, some of the sound packs say connect with USB, but when I do it still won’t transfer to the Orba. **Developer response:** Hey there, we're happy to assist you in getting your sounds transferred over to your Orba. Also, please note that quantization settings can be adjust for each mode individually. If you're finding that your loops aren't sounding the way you'd like, ensure that quantization is turned on for all four parts. The other 75% of sounds are terrible with no way to edit it unless attached to a computer, which again negates the portability of it. Maybe direct sampling on Orba 3 makes it worth it but Orba 1 and 2 are toys unless you’re attached to a computer. ### 2/5 — Devs, pls help me on this *2024-06-06* I love Artiphon and stuff, but I have a MAJOR problem. There’s this song I really want to have, but instead of the usual “Send To Orba”, I get, “Download Missing Files”. WHAT THE L IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!??? Anyways, I click the download missing files button, and guess what it does? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Devs, pls respond to this and not have it be some dumb ai generated comment. So I got one of these things for Christmas, and it’s pretty cool. The idea is cool, but the app needs some fixing. The app is really hard to navigate, you can’t delete things you have recorded, when you press the record button it takes 10 seconds for it to go, there aren’t enough customization options, it is really hard to record something new without something else playing in the background, and a lot of other things that need fixing. When you pay $150 for a device, you should get an app that helps you instead of an app that barely works. That will erase the loops for one mode. Pressing and holding (A) + pad 6 until the LEDs circle Orba 2 twice will erase your entire song. Relying on the app for the sole way to access most of the functions is a fundamental design flaw of the Orba 2. I cannot get the thing to connect, update firmware, anything… either with a cable or via BT. So can’t change sounds, can’t access samples, can’t change keys, can’t mess with recordings, etc. Effectively I have a round, four voice keyboard… If they can get the app functioning, it would be great if they could improve quantization to be more… idk musical? The ability to choose a key is cool but only limited to maj/min … so no funky melodies or chords are possible. This, especially, should be an east fix that would greatly expand the usefulness of Orba 2, which is currently limited to a simple do-re-mi. Unless you went to the trouble of manually sampling every note for all instruments…. but then I can’t get the samples to work so…. **Developer response:** Hey there, thanks for sharing your feedback with us. Our team would be happy to help you get your Orba 2 connected to the Artiphon Connect app. Please send us an email at support@artiphon.com, and we'll get you connected and playing as soon as possible. ### 3/5 — Disappointed *2023-10-22* Won’t let me upgrade firmware past 1.03 through USB, tried multiple USB chords and turned off all Bluetooth in my house and my MacBook and OS is compatible. Can’t make new songs in the app, although it does connect to Bluetooth, it just doesn’t read the Orba 2 when plugged in by USB. Overpriced midi controller only that you can use in other apps and your daw. I did buy brand new through Reverb, but that shouldn’t affect the usability and me being able to update firmware. Whack product as a stand alone instrument, gimmicky after awhile without being able to upgrade firmware. Focus/Fix the problems the people are highlighting(software/app/bugs) and this product will sell like hot cakes. Especially if you can save/export the audio to your daw for completing the beat. Maybe you can in the new firmware update, but Like I said I can’t update the firmware cause it won’t read when plugged in via USB. **Developer response:** Hey there, within the last year, we added song exporting capabilities for Orba 2 and are constantly working to continue the app experience for our users. I had already connected by Bluetooth MIDI. When I press the next app shows me No device connect. Is it need to update the app version to compare the iOS 17? ### 3/5 — A few grievances: *2023-08-09* The Orba 2 is a really fun instrument to play with. However, there are couple things that could be done better. The manual was lacking, there was a lot of information missing from there that should have been easily accessible; like how to change the tempo or clear a recording. My biggest issue is the quantization, it’s absolutely horrendous. Even when you click the button in the app to make your song sound "as recorded", there’s no difference between the snap quantization. The "Groove" setting is the only one which makes it sound as recorded, but it ALWAYS adds another beat, and takes the last one away in the last measure. I really want to use this instrument to record music, but I cannot do so unless you fix the quantization. **Developer response:** Hey there, thanks for the review. You can contact us at support@artiphon.com. ### 3/5 — Keeps restarting my Orba 2 *2023-07-14* The app is pretty good, as is to be expected. HOWEVER. My problem will not stop like I thought it would. Half the time I open the app, my orba 2 will crash and I will lose everything that I was working on. It isn’t immediately after I open it because I would assume it was something with my older model of phone. But it usually happens in the middle of downloading sounds to and from the orba. It also will occasionally crash the app as well. Please fix this if possible. If not then it is fine, because it still works half the time. I also think that there should be a way to make your loops start one after the other so that it doesn’t sound like it starts in the middle of a song. (There may already be a way to do this but I have no idea.) Those are my only concerns! 😁 ### 4/5 — Definite improvements *2023-06-20, version 1.0.295* They’ve made quite a few updates and improvements since this came out. I’d love to see more editing functions to utilize my own sounds in the drum portion. I’d love to be able to make my own kit with either the provided sounds (mix and match) or uploading my own samples to use. It’s a royal pain and a proper example of hardware companies producing terrible software. Would give 0 stars if allowed. ### 1/5 — Orba2 is not that great *2024-10-27* Every updat is a new set of hoops to jump through and with the newest update my orba2 doesn’t even connect to anything anymore (pc or iPad) . Driver info isn’t where website says it should be ! There doesn’t seem to be a way to do that. Which makes no sense since the usb port is on the bottom of the iPad and in order to connect my chorda I hook it up to the iPad with a USB cable. Not with usb or Bluetooth. There are multiple pages about not connecting on the forums, so this is a common problem. We hope to provide a 5-star experience for you in using Orba 2 and its companion app. ### 1/5 — Nonfunctional for Orba *2023-11-09* The original Orba app never had a 1.0 release and has been abandoned for nearly a year. This new app does not support the Orba 1. That would be bad but less shocking if you could not still buy the Orba 1 new at retail stores. But you can, so it is a real mess. The Orba devices are good as MIDI controllers. And that’s not a knock, they really are good MIDI controllers. How could you publish something like this? It lags, is completely unresponsive and wants to sync for 5 minutes on a regular basis. Virtually unusable on iPhone 14 Pro Max.
