Art Set 4 is more realistic looking and easier to use (possibly has more features than Art Rage, but this looked bad enough that I bounced off fast before I could explore it). Even alternatives not trying as hard to look realistic like Procreate, Ibis Paint, Artstudio Pro, etc., have more features and look better. My main issue was how bad and pixelated some of the brushes looked? And then they did not behave at all realistically. It basically just did not meet the two main expectations I had. Smart of them not to add a demo option, otherwise I would have never bought this, I guess. ### 4/5 — I use it a lot *2026-03-12, version 1.1.5* I prefer the more realistic painting in this app than Procreate. I do wish that some bugs were ironed out. My least favourite bug is when the canvas disappears upon pasting from iOS clipboard. But Ive done some really beautiful pieces in this app. Some of the colors don’t seem to mix accurately, like yellow and blue but it’s mostly accurate and definitely better than procreate in this regard ### 4/5 — Weird *2025-11-23, version 1.1.5* I purchased this app and I just realized there is another version of this app by the same developer , cheaper, probably better version out there. Money is not an issue , couple dollars only, but why. Minus this, I am enjoying my time creating. ### 4/5 — ArtRageより少し進化した *2025-09-09* ★ArtRageから進化した点 ・ブラシや起動などアプリ全体的でパフォーマンスが向上している。 ・クローナーツール(Photoshopで言うコピースタンプツール)が実装された。以前からArtRageは矩形選択などができないためクローナーツールの実装によってレイヤーを跨いだ部分コピーがやりやすくなった。 ・各ブラシのパラメーターが増え調整できる部分が増えた。 ・レイヤー効果(Photoshopで言うレイヤースタイル)が実装された。影、カットアウト、グロー、インナーグロー、エンボス、ストロークがある。 ・現在表示しているレイヤーをすべてマージする機能が搭載された。 ・直線ツールがいつの間にか搭載されていた。15度単位で引くこともできる。 ★問題点 ・以前のArtRageでもあったがブラシのプリセットを保存した際にアプリが強制終了する。Vitaeはその頻度が高い。→修正された。 ・ギャラリーでのスクロールがページ単位になり、ページとページの間にあるドキュメントが見切れて選択し辛い。以前のArtRageのようなピクセル単位のスクロールの方が見やすい。 ・キャンバスの向きが縦長のものを保存した後、横長のキャンバスを開くとたまに絵が縦置きで表示され天地の向きが戻せない時がある。アプリを再起動すると解決したが。キャンバスを閉じた後でも天地方向のキャッシュが残ってたままになっているのではないだろうか。→修正された？ ★総評 ArtRageから大きく進化したわけではないが少し快適になっていることは確かだ。あともう一つテキストレイヤー機能が欲しいところだがまぁ別のツールでやれということで。長く使っていて気になっている点は、例えば水彩ブラシを2種類切り替えて使いたい場合、プリセットの切り替えでしかブラシの変更ができないところだ。ツールパレットを自分がよく使うブラシだけで構成できると便利かなと思った。 概ね満足している。欲しい機能はまだまだあるがペイントツールとして見た時にコンパクトにまとまっていて使いやすいのでこれが正解かなとも思う。機能を入れすぎて使い辛くなるよりマシだろう。 ★ArtRage→ArtRage Vitaeへデータなどの移行方法 1.ArtRageのギャラリーで各グループの「>」から「グループをエクスポートする」を選ぶ。 2.エクスポート形式をptgにして、iPad内に保存する。 3.Vitaeを開きギャラリー右上の「+」から「import_OtherLcations」でエクスポートしたptgを読み込む。 ★色見本のバックアップ方法 色見本をバックアップする機能はないので、ArtRageで色見本を表示した画面をスクリーンショットに撮っておく。 色見本を復活させる際はその画像をレイヤーとしてインポートし、スポイトツールで一つ一つ色を取り、色見本に登録していく。 ### 3/5 — It crashes. *2025-08-28, version 1.1.5* I love this program on my computer. I really wanted to use it on my iPad, but it has crashed twice erasing my work suddenly. I’m kind of sad about it. It also doesn’t save automatically. I would also love to have the option of choosing the size of the work by measurements, not just pixels. ### 3/5 — Seems incomplete *2025-03-24, version 1.1.5* I fell in love with Art rage when I bought a tablet for my PC. It was one of the best for media simulation. Recently, I got an iPad and thought id try it. Its great, but laggy where all my other art programs are not. When I first set down my pencil (iPad specific one), it delays, and so a circle has a flat line in it. So, I can't really enjoy it. ### 3/5 — Stale App - Supported but very few updates *2025-03-12, version 1.1.5* 12 March 2025: I have been using ArtRage for many many years now both on my Mac and iPads. There has been little done other to fix bugs and OS inconsistencies with OS releases and I feel that the app is growing very stale. It needs to be enhanced with more and better tools and functionality. It used to be a go to; but, now is nothing more than a stress busting tool. It’s a shame when apps like this fall through the cracks and it makes it even hard to recommend them. It doesn’t appear to support pencil hover on iPad Pro, nor doubletap on the pencil’s side to change tool (eg to eraser, or even better a per-tool option so oil paint could be alternated with palette knife, etc). The app would benefit from some proper paper sizing controls - width & height in mm, combined with pixel density in dpi. ### 4/5 — Why this new version? *2023-02-16, version 1.1.3* ArtRage has always been a go-to for realistic digital painting especially for those who like a UI that’s familiar to fine artists, with a tray of brushes and media tools instead of a Photoshop-like interface. I’ve used AR for years but when I saw this new version I thought finally they updated this app which has never really changed in over a decade. Nope…still the same. It looks and behaves exactly like the original app. So what’s “Vitae” about it? Head scratcher. Still good and worth using but wonder why it exists unless purely to dupe original users into buying. Guilty! ### 4/5 — **** *2022-11-05* I love ArtRage; the texture of oil pastels watercolors : all great. I m on rebelle on my computer which is hard to top when it comes to realistic medias and yet I find ArtRage pretty good, I use it on my iPad and would use it almost as much as procreate if the blender/smudgers and color mixers were better; it s a real pity; the fact that blue and yellow don’t create green is also unsettling! Also with with high resolutions it does this thing where it zooms in a bit and you can't zoom out and another thing I was painting and somehow the reference just disappeared from my screen even though it was on the tab. As you can imagine this gets tedious and monotonous and when working on projects your continuity and inspiration are hampered. I have mentioned this issue now for years as it is the same with ArtRage Pro version and they have yet to reply or rectify the problem. This version is the same as the previous iPad version with a few minor additions. Not worth calling a new app! It is still the most laggy painting app out there, why haven’t they done anything about that? Surely if you release a new version it will work without lag, I have the latest iPad Pro! You cannot adjust the brush size with a slider, what an error, every app has that function! Loved it. But this version the menus do not stay open long enough to make selections...documentation talks about it, but does not describe it in any way a non-programmer would know what to do. "Change the "interface"? What is that, how do you do that? Sooo frustrating to see a program I loved so much not designed to help non-techy users...I feel like my time/relevance on this planet has passed, because all I try to do all day is solve computer problems with documentation written by people who probably could not name a single plant outside. Thought I was in the company of artists here. With Procreate’s lack of realistic color blending I gave up on using the iPad for art. Upon buying ArtRage Vitae and seeing it immediately mix blue and yellow to create a beautiful green color I am realizing there is hope for the future of art on the iPad. The sad grey mush you get when mixing blue and yellow in inferior art programs makes ArtRage Vitae a must-buy. Just hold your finger down on the color in the lower right to access the Real Color Blending. Amazing. I’m loving what it can do. And for such a low price. The instructions were a little hard to find on the website, but I’m now excited about trying all the features and tools. I’ve tried many art apps and I keep coming back to this one. ### 5/5 — Wonderful painting experience with a Pencil *2022-06-06, version 1.0.5* I’ve been a user of ArtRage on the desktop for years so as soon as I got an iPad Pro, I was keen to try the mobile version too. I was given pause by the very negative reviews suggesting that there was a large amount of lag and that there was no slider to set the brush sizes. I’m happy to report that both of these issues weren’t evident during my painting experience this morning. I’m using the latest 2021 M1 iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil (v2) and there was very little lag when using the brush tools (certainly no more than when I’ve used ArtRage on my MacBook). Using the roller produced a little lag but again, no more than I’ve experienced on the desktop version. Accessing the brush slider is simple - hold the Pencil on the bottom left corner (where the % brush size indicator is) and drag inwards and a quarter-circle brush size selector will appear. I’m really looking forward to getting creative with this version of one of my favourite creative tools. If I find that in use, lag becomes apparent or other issues arise, I will amend this review accordingly but for now, I’m really impressed. ### 5/5 — essential item in art toolkit *2022-05-26, version 1.0.5* Glad to have ArtRage on an iPad pro. The tools are great but for me, ArtRage’s main feature is subtlety. Zoom in as much as you like, and you really don’t see pixels, just the transitions among color and intensity. None of my other great art tools do this. I’d like to see selections added to the iPad OS version..iPhone, too. The iPad version suffers from unreliable palm rejection, often resulting in the brush size widget appearing as you’re drawing, forcing you to scale the brush size up, then down, in order to dismiss it to resume seeing what you’re drawing.
