## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6.0 — 2026-10-17

Your Watch follows along, AirPods track your heart, and something spooky

NEW
• Start on iPhone, Watch follows — start a workout on your iPhone and Ascend opens on your Apple Watch automatically, on the same workout with heart rate streaming.
• AirPods heart rate — no Watch? AirPods Pro 3 or a Bluetooth heart rate monitor now provide live heart rate during your workout. Turn it off anytime in Settings.
• Home Screen shortcuts — press and hold the Ascend icon to start or resume a workout, jump into your suggested workout, or open your stats.
• Spooky theme — Settings, then Appearance, then Spooky for pumpkin-orange accents on a haunted purple-black backdrop. Your Watch picks up the orange too.
• Spooky rest timers — with the theme on, rest-end alerts mix in Halloween messages to get you off the bench.
• Tell a Friend — share Ascend from the About section of Settings.

IMPROVEMENTS & FIXES
• The rest timer now keeps accurate time when you lock your phone or switch apps, and no longer disappears from the Lock Screen.
• The Lock Screen now shows the set you're about to do, so "Mark Set Done" always matches what you're lifting.
• Marking a set done from the Lock Screen follows your superset rest settings.
• Kilogram fixes — bodyweight PRs use your body weight in kg, and PRs, charts, notifications, and history show kg instead of "lbs".
• Cancelling a workout is more reliable.
• The number keypad no longer gets stuck after tapping Done.
• "Set as default" in the rest timer saves the length you actually dialed in.
• Apple Watch remembers your appearance setting, and its rest-end buzz respects the Haptic Feedback toggle.
• Polish: the This Week card and streak heatmap line up with their charts, and very short workouts show as under a minute.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-09-02

Live Activity — your active workout now appears on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, showing your current exercise, set progress, your last set, and the rest timer counting down.

Complete a set without unlocking — tap "Mark Set Done" straight from the Lock Screen. Ascend logs the set, starts your rest timer, and keeps your Apple Watch in sync.

Heart rate at a glance — when a heart-rate source is connected, your current BPM shows up next to the rest timer.

Share your workout — finish a session and tap share to get a square summary card with your duration, total volume, set count, and top sets, ready to post or save to Photos.

Smarter template prompt — the "Update Template?" prompt now always appears for a workout you started from a template, so completing sets from the Lock Screen no longer hides it.

Cleaner completion screen — the share action moved out of the way so the template prompt is never buried behind the footer.

Fixes and refinements
• The rest timer no longer disappears when you leave the app and come back — it now tracks wall-clock time, so it stays accurate whether you're backgrounded, locked, or on your Watch.
• Fixed the number keyboard occasionally getting stuck open or unresponsive while logging sets, and made set entry noticeably smoother.
• Improved reliability of your workout data on Apple Watch if the app ever fails to start cleanly.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-05-29

First-launch onboarding — new users now walk through a six-step flow that captures your profile, primes Health permissions, and seeds starter templates (Full Body, Push, Pull, Legs).
Universal profile button — Settings moved out of the tab bar into a circular profile icon on every tab. Tap it from anywhere to manage units, theme, notifications, and Health.
Profile photo — tap your avatar in Settings to take a photo or pick one from your library. It shows up everywhere the profile icon appears.
Guided tour — finish onboarding (or relaunch it from Settings → View App Tour) for a five-step walkthrough that spotlights each tab plus your new profile button.
Friendlier first impression on Home — a "Ready for your first workout?" card replaces the empty recent-workouts gap until you log your first session.
Permission priming — Notifications and "Sync from Health" now explain what they'll do before iOS prompts, so the system dialog isn't a surprise.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-05-14

Plate breakdown — long-press the weight on any plate-loaded set to see exactly which plates to load per side, in your preferred unit.

Per-exercise base weight — tell Ascend what your hack squat sled, barbell, or Smith bar weighs in the exercise editor, and the calculator only counts the plates you load on top.

Add Warm-Up Sets — generate a 40 / 60 / 80% ramp from the exercise menu, tweak any row, and confirm to prepend warm-up sets ahead of your working sets. Warm-ups show a clear amber stripe and "W" badge in the set list.

Plate Inventory — Settings → Plate Inventory lets you add or remove plate denominations so suggestions match the gym you actually train in.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-05-11

Ascend 1.2 is a big one.

• Redesigned home screen — a cleaner, faster jumping-off point for every workout.
• iCloud sync — sign in to iCloud and your workouts, templates, PRs, and preferences follow you to a new iPhone or restored device automatically.
• Profile — add your sex, date of birth, height, and primary goal in Settings, or auto-fill them from Apple Health in one tap. Powers smarter defaults across the app.
• Supersets — group exercises into a colored superset on iPhone or Watch and they stay in sync across both devices.
• Add brand-new exercises directly into a superset from the picker, no extra steps.
• Templates now support supersets — build them while creating a template and edit them from the template detail screen.
• Rest timer fixes — finishing or cancelling a workout cleanly tears down any running rest, and the rest-end chime plays even while the app is open.
• Body weight trend chip now shows the real number of days between entries, and can be hidden from Settings.
• What's New — this screen, so future updates can highlight changes without an App Store hunt.

Thanks for lifting with Ascend.
