Staff in branch didn’t know what to do but luckily I’d done most of my shopping, otherwise I would’ve left it. ### 1/5 — Horrible experience *2025-11-18, version 5.524.0* Does not work properly. Takes more than five minutes to recognize a barcode and even then it still "cannot see it, please move closer". Rather walked up to a cashier. ### 1/5 — Accuracy Check Simulator *2025-11-10, version 5.494.0* This app has just giga fallen off. Every single time I’m in-store it’s time for an accuracy check. What’s the point in the app if I’m just getting all my stuff scanned by colleagues anyway? Makes zero sense. If it truly was random/every now and then I wouldn’t have an issue but the app literally farms them. It’s just sad. Also the scan function used to work just fine, but because these Mon-Fri 9-5 IT workers need to have work to do, it’s now absolutely cooked because they’ve needlessly changed it through an ‘update’. ### 2/5 — Useful in some ways *2025-10-01, version 5.494.0* I used to love this app. Until one day i had a random check and one of the items didn’t scan properly and now anytime i use the app i get a so called random check at the till like Im a thief. So no longer use it to scan as i go. The positive side of it is good as a price checker as a lot of times the price is higher at the till than the label on the shelf. ### 1/5 — Transfer to new phone *2025-09-03, version 5.483.0* Would give zero as process so difficult. Very very slow at scanning and adding to the trolley! ### 1/5 — Bad *2025-08-09, version 5.476.0* The app is bad. The whole idea is bad. Adds huge time to what should be a quick shop. When you get to checkout you have to unpack your nicely packed shopping into the dirty floor to have it checked. It won’t scan the barcodes of most of the items and I entered them manually! It should be fixed ASAP. The previous one never had problems like this! Disappointing how something okay can turn into something useless! ### 1/5 — Do they use this? *2025-08-02, version 5.453.0* The new version of the application has moved to a machine vision system. Instead of using barcode detection as they used to, they are using “ai” to detect them. Whatever model they are using hasn’t been trained properly. It can’t tell the difference between qr codes and barcodes for about 10 seconds. This mega slow version needs you to be almost on top of the barcode before it will see it. Come on guys, for years you had a working version and you had to use some new shiny didn’t you… it wasn’t broke, you didn’t fix it ### 1/5 — The latest update ruined the barcode scanner. *2025-07-30, version 5.453.0* The scanner used to be fast and reliable. I’m not sure how you managed to ruin it. If before it was able to scan the barcode code from almost any angle and distance, now you have to be some sort of sniper since now it can hardly read it. One of the worst updates ever. ### 2/5 — Barcode issue *2025-07-27, version 5.453.0* Nice app and used to work great. Its now been updated and the camera just doesnt pick up half the barcodes of items when going round the shop. Never used to have the issue ### 2/5 — Lacks Integration with the Asda Rewards Scheme *2025-07-21, version 5.453.0* Please, please, please, bring the Asda Rewards scheme into this app. I don’t want to hold up the queue of Customers waiting to checkout as I have swap apps to scan my reward card. Your competition has done this (no names, but mostly Orange!) and it makes their app much easier to use. ### 1/5 — Scanner Not Working *2025-07-08, version 5.407.0* Used to worked fine before and was very convenient. It just stopped working and no instructions for troubleshooting ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Do not use *2026-08-16, version 5.557.0* I did a full trolley worth of shopping only for it to lose connection at the checkout and completely emptying the basket forcing me to go to the regular checkout. Absolute waste of time ### 1/5 — Rubbish *2026-08-11, version 5.557.0* Wasted our time setting up and using as it didn’t work at the checkout point, just left us hanging ### 1/5 — No email sent don't bother *2026-08-07, version 5.557.0* Tried logging in with my account needs a new password no email sent. Created a new account different email and no email sent. What a load of rubbish. ### 1/5 — Decent until you actually want to checkout *2026-07-05, version 5.556.0* App is good as you go around and makes the shop easier until the point you scan the qr code at the tip and it provides you a barcode only to then error when scanning the barcode and having to then put the full shop through a till 🤬 ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2026-05-17, version 5.543.0* Used the app for the first time today for a big shop. Got to the till to pay and when scanning the QR code the app kept displaying an error message saying “something went wrong”. My shopping had to be unpacked and scanned through a till. Total waste of time. Asda staff says they see this issue every day. ### 1/5 — Don’t bother *2026-04-01, version 5.543.0* Installed and tried on my first ever visit to Asda as I wasn’t sure if they had hand scanners. (Just moved and Asda is now my local). I like to buy loose items like limes to save on plastic but it never picked up the barcodes on any loose items. (Maybe because the barcode is behind the plastic label on the shelf and there’s an air gap?) tried pushing the plastic in but still no help. Other things with small barcodes such as Feta did not get picked up and I’m not sitting there typing in barcodes like a muppet. Just stopped scanning and used self checkout in the end. I have an iPhone 15 so it’s not like the camera’s bad. Tried wiping the lens etc but realised the app is just awful. ### 1/5 — Amatuer software *2026-02-09, version 5.543.0* Just a heads up as the software creator has obviously never been shopping, a shopping list facility requires the ability to add items into the middle of a list and be able to move them up and down so they are in the same order as they are on the shop floor, this only gives the ability to add to the end neither use nor ornament. ### 1/5 — Update is worse than the previous version *2026-02-04, version 5.543.0* I was forced to update my app and it barely scanned the items I was trying to get. I ended getting the few things I was able to scan and not bother coming back to Asda. They have about 2 manned tills and all the other ones are self scan. I don’t have time to wait 20 minutes in a line after work. Useless. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Didn’t work for a long time…but it’s fine now. *2024-01-09* Used to work perfectly but like many, the app kept crashing since getting iPhone 15 pro max. It’s been weeks and weeks now and still no fix. We’re getting nearer Christmas and because this app is not working for many, more of the in-store handsets are being used or recharging, very annoying. Please sort it out…what you’re doing obviously isn’t working. Update: it’s been about 6 weeks now and it’s still crashing. Any idea when you’re going to get your app fixed? Update 2: Took ages to fix app but it’s finally working again. Easy to use app. Like the feature to search for an item and see which aisle it’s in. Great app 👍🏻 **Developer response:** Sorry you've been having problems using the app. We've recently released a new update which has resolved this issue, please update your app to the latest version (5.278), if no update is available then deleting the app and re-installing is another option. ### 5/5 — Stopped working *2024-01-06* I used this app once and all was fine, since then I have upgraded my phone to an iPhone 15 and the app opens allows the store selection then I tap start shopping and the app crashes. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling, logging on etc but it still crashes. Not useable at all. Glad to say I tested the app again last night and as the developer said it was fixed with the update launched this week. Re rated to 5 stars all working perfectly. Thank you for the response. **Developer response:** Sorry you've been having problems using the app. We've recently released a new update which has resolved this issue, please update your app to the latest version (5.278), if no update is available then deleting the app and re-installing is another option. ### 4/5 — Works well but you cannot add your ASDA rewards card? *2025-06-28, version 5.407.0* Step 1: open app Step 2: login Step 3: detect location and nearest store Step 4: select store Step 5: start shopping All good, but where do I add my ASDA rewards card to ensure I capture those points? Other than this point, the app works better than the store scanners. ### 4/5 — Issues with increase quantity after scanning *2025-05-14, version 5.407.0* I used the scan and go app yesterday and today in store and experienced a similar problem on each occasion which follows a recent update. Scanned one item, increased the quantity to what I’d put in my trolley ( wine x12 yesterday, sweets x2 , wine x12 and soda water x4 today). Got selected for a “quality check” on both occasions. Despite the app on my phone the showing the correct quantities scanned ( and the total bill and discounts reflecting this), the quality check yesterday showed I had not scanned one of the wines ( but the other 11 had scanned fine) and today one of the soda water , one bottle of wine and 1 of the sweets ( all of which I had used the increase quantity button to increase from the single item scanned) were apparently not scanned by me. This is down to the app and definitely not my input. Feel like a criminal! If I ever use it again I will scan each individual item rather than using the increase quantity facility. As a frequent customer I’m very upset Asda! So anyone using this after the recent update- scan each item and don’t use the increase quantity facility. Update- after responding to the developer as requested and their detailed search of my shopping history, the issue seems to be as a result of different barcodes on bottles of the identical wine (different batches?) rather than an issue with the increase quantity facility in the app. Thank you Ian for your help. It’s reassuring to know that the issue wasn’t with my scanning or the app per se. I’m also glad to hear that this is being addressed both in barcodes and in communications with app users after quality checks in store. To avoid having the same issue I experienced (unless you are able to spot the differences in barcodes of what appears to be an identical product) I’d suggest that users scan each individual item in your trolley. Hopefully that way you’ll avoid the repeat quality checks which have ensued on each of my 3 shops since the initial 2 barcode issues. So overall, good app, great communication and investigation from developer into the issue, but caveat is to take care when purchasing multiples of same item. ### 4/5 — Do you need to fix your apps so it actually works inside the shop? *2024-08-28, version 5.370.0* Because it’s not fair on the customers who are losing out on the vouchers that you have put out there for them to be told or not getting it because you didn’t use them all on the date because your app is useless and cannot work so basically you’re wasting their time doing this if you’re not gonna work cause not to get the rewards that they need to save up ### 3/5 — Good overall *2026-01-29, version 5.543.0* The scan and go app is a great idea overall but it does have a few problems. 1. the scanning of barcodes became more difficult after an update. 2. Sometimes the app freezes and then all my shopping disappears (not very often) 3. No integration of the Asda rewards card which is my main annoyance (Tesco have the clubcard integrated, Waitrose has the loyalty card integrated so why can’t you?) ### 3/5 — Taking too long to scan *2025-10-12, version 5.494.0* I always liked to scan and pack shopping as I go. The app was great for so long, but this new update makes things difficult. When switch camera on to scan, the picture is very blurred, and after buffering for about a minute, the green window around barcode appears. Sometimes it scans once the green window appears, sometimes it won’t, have to close the app down and restart it. I hope it’ll get fixed ### 3/5 — Going backwards *2025-07-28, version 5.453.0* This latest update is not as good at scanning as the previous version. It is unable to scan any barcodes from the fresh bakery section and also failed on mozzarella cheese pouch. Have used the new app 3 times and each time it failed on at least one product. Previous version would maybe fail once a month.
