### 4/5 — New to Asheville Citizens Times

*2023-01-23, version 3.6.13*

I’ve just begun subscribing and am very happy with the newspaper overall. I like the layout, the local, national and world coverage and the Parade section. The only reason I didn’t give the full five stars is the difficulty in locating the Editorial page and Opinions. They are not listed in the Index so I have to flip through all pages until I find those particular pages.

### 4/5 — Citizen Times App

*2022-08-25, version 3.6.13*

I like this app when I’m not at home to read the newspaper.

### 4/5 — Convenient way to start the day

*2022-08-14, version 3.6.13*

Review of the ACT online paper give me a recap of the local news.

### 4/5 — Good solid ecologically sensitive app

*2022-08-03, version 3.6.13*

No waste for newsprint app that is easily navigated. It would get a 5 star rating if it were not quirky sometimes about not giving access without having to re-enter the password. It should store it and auto load the paper w/o having to do that again on the same device that is always used for reading the paper.

### 4/5 — Good app

*2022-05-17, version 3.6.05*

Opens quickly and can maneuver with a keyboard. No ability to print or email individually stories.

### 3/5 — Still a bit glitchy, but slowly getting better

*2022-03-31, version 3.6.05*

Doesn’t crash or time out as frequently as before.

### 4/5 — Much improved

*2022-01-12, version 3.5.08*

A recent update has improved this app in that it has stopped crashing so much. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Excellent journalism

*2021-12-30, version 3.5.08*

Subscriber for most of 14 years we have been in the Asheville area and we enjoy the Sunday edition in particular.

### 5/5 — Local paper on my iPad!

*2021-11-04, version 3.2.63*

So much better than piling up stacks of newsprint. I’m in Haywood County but I can read what is of interest, with some finger manipulations. Works for me!

### 5/5 — Great when away from home

*2021-10-13, version 3.2.63*

We use the app while traveling. A very easy read.

### 5/5 — Online edition

*2021-09-24, version 3.2.63*

Great delivery in Europe- fast downloading and instant article retrieval for easy reading! Much more reliable than home delivered print edition often left rain soaked in driveway.

### 4/5 — Sold news app

*2021-09-14, version 3.2.63*

User friendly after working out lots of the earlier kinks

### 2/5 — Crashes and only 3 pages

*2021-09-06, version 3.2.63*

I usually use this app only when I’m traveling but needed it today, September 6, 2021. I can see only the front page, page 9A, and pages 4c and 5c. When I tap the “pages” button, the app crashes. Older editions are fine.

### 4/5 — Improved performance

*2021-08-05, version 3.2.63*

Updating my review to say that performance has improved. App is not crashing or freezing constantly. Much happier lately.

### 5/5 — Great way to stay current

*2021-07-21, version 3.2.63*

I love waking up with my local coffee and Citizen-Times every morning! To get a high level overview of what’s happening is a joy!

### 4/5 — Citizen-times Print Version

*2021-06-22, version 3.2.63*

The Print Version is much better then the basic version. I only use the electronic Citizen-times and was about to unsubscribe because of the lousy functionality of the basic version. I have changed my mind due to the availability of print version.

### 5/5 — Excellent resource

*2021-06-13, version 3.2.63*

I greatly enjoy your e-edition. Easy to read. And we save a few trees in the process. Kudos.

### 5/5 — Good app

*2021-05-31, version 3.2.63*

Very easy to navigate app. Worth using.

### 5/5 — Local coverage

*2021-05-09, version 3.2.63*

Great source of local news and the Answer Man is an added bonus

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — A college newspaper

*2021-05-03, version 3.2.63*

Our paper adds little value to the community, superficial editorial content w poorly written content

### 1/5 — App crashes with latest iPad update

*2021-02-06, version 2.9.10*

I’ve attempted to contact customer service but the app continues to crash multiple times while trying to read the paper. There hasn’t been an update on this app in over two years.

### 1/5 — Crashes every 90 seconds!

*2021-01-29, version 2.9.10*

Gannett, I’m looking at you! Why can’t you fix this thing? Print is frequently blurry, then clear, then blurry again. When I move to the next page, the print doesn’t even show. Can’t you spend some money on making a viable product in exchange for my subscription payment? Don’t moan about the death of local journalism until you clean up your delivery system.

### 1/5 — Only app on iPad that consistently crashes

*2020-10-21, version 2.9.10*

Well, we went to full time online since our paper wasn’t being delivered until noon most days. I upgraded to iOS 14 on the iPad and now I’m lucky to get through reading the news with only a dozen crashes or freezes. Remind me again on why I pay over $200 a year to support the local news? And get The Washington Post for $60? It shouldn’t be a struggle.

### 1/5 — Update??? Nah, we don’t need no stinkin’ update!

*2020-10-08, version 2.9.10*

After my last review (see below) the app started behaving, but since the release of iOS 14.0.1 last week the app is again very unstable. No app updates in over two years? The C-T is unable to deliver a real newspaper anywhere close my residence and now they can’t deliver an electronic version either. Wonder if their circulation numbers they show to their advertisers discount these failures?

Starting on 22 Nov 2019 this app locks up on both of our family iPads (different generations). I note the app has not been updated in over a year. Unable to contact tech support through the locked up app, so cancellation of the subscription may be the only viable option.

### 1/5 — Reading AC-T online

*2020-09-15, version 2.9.10*

No stars from me! But, can’t submit my review without giving a star, that’s wrong, too! As multiple others have stated, this is a non-functioning app for electronic readers. There are so many other papers that have gone online that work beautifully. When is the AC-T going to improve access to the electronic version of the paper for smooth reading online? Please listen to the comments!
The current condition is too bad even for a free offer, let alone for the subscription fee!

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2020-01-02, version 2.9.10*

Like others state, app freezes. Also frequently can not connect to internet whereas other apps can. Internet connection is working. Frequently need to resign on. Have to download same edition multiple times. Sad, because it is one of a few ways to get local news, what little they do provide. I was a print subscriber for almost 30 years, but they quit delivering print to my blacktop state road address (not like we’re out of the way somewhere).

### 1/5 — Doesn't work with IOS 8

*2020-01-02, version 2.9.10*

App closes after a few seconds. Deleted App and reinstalled with no improvement. Online subscription is worthless until this is fixed! Can access local news (in a horrible format) on the I-Pad App version, but no national news. I gave up home delivery because of lousy service and price increase, and now the digital version has provided a similar poor customer service. Way to go Citizen Times.

### 1/5 — App freezes up

*2019-12-18, version 2.9.10*

The app, for the past few weeks, freezes up after I click on the first article I would like to read. Have tried rebooting and also deleting the app and reinstalling the app. Nothing works. What is the use of having a subscription if one can’t read it?

### 1/5 — App Freezes Up

*2019-12-15, version 2.9.10*

This app is not dependable. After reading just a few pages, the page freezes up on my IPad. Closing the app and even rebooting the IPad do not make a difference. Internet speeds at the time were 200 mbs. An email to Customer Service gets a response that indicates that there are no updates to the app or technical problems with their system. The problem is my internet. It seems more like a poorly designed app. However, it is the only way to read the paper.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Convenient way to read the paper

*2023-04-10*

Easy to navigate.

### 5/5 — Easy to read Citizen Times!

*2023-03-25*

Take the Citizen Times with you wherever you go! Windy or rainy weather is no longer a problem.

### 5/5 — Citizen Times App

*2023-01-08, version 3.6.13*

Ease access, and ease to use

### 5/5 — Digital ACT

*2022-11-30, version 3.6.13*

It’s so nice to be able to read the paper on my iPad. The print is so easy to see and it’s a snap to navigate to different sections. I’ve really been enjoying it. Also, no newspapers to pile up and dispose of.

### 5/5 — Convenient

*2022-10-31, version 3.6.13*

Reading the Citizen-Times on my iPad is convenient, easy, and offers additional features.

### 5/5 — Love all the view options!

*2022-06-09, version 3.6.13*

This is a wonderful app on my iPad. Easy to use. Lots of options.

### 5/5 — Excellent paper

*2022-05-03, version 3.6.05*

During a difficult time for newspapers to operate, the Citizen Times provides well researched and written news for the community. The online version is easy to use and I really like the collaboration with USA Today to provide national news.

### 5/5 — Nice app

*2022-03-01, version 3.5.08*

Stable, easy to load, scroll, and read.

### 5/5 — Citizen-Times

*2022-02-21, version 3.5.08*

I read this newspaper every day and have for many, many years. It is how I keep up with news concerning my hometown (Asheville) and surrounding area.

### 5/5 — I Love the Digital Print Edition

*2022-01-31, version 3.5.08*

I use to love reading the printed newspaper to start every day. I was reluctant to switch to digital and now I prefer it I can magnify the print with just a touch for easier reading, and I don’t have to go outside in cold or rainy weather to get the paper. I like having the editions saved so I can go back to them a few days later to review certain articles or retrieve specific information. I don’t have to worry about sometimes getting a delayed delivery due to icy roads, and I can read it right away when I wake up earlier than usual In short, it’s convenient, easy to use, and consistent.
