### 5/5 — My grocery companion now

*2024-03-20*

Made my grocery shopping so much easier. Instead of preparing to spend an hour reading ingredients lists (to only some success) this app is so simple, just point and shoot. It’s shocking how two similarly packaged goods can have wildly different ratings.

I used in in my last grocery run to replace some of my staples with better scoring alternatives. I’ve noticed my last week’s meal scores improved from around 60 on average to over 70 now, without a change in diet, and only marginal change in cost of the food itself.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-03-18*

Love learning about other options, the education about gut biodiversity is invaluable.

### 5/5 — Your shopping companion

*2024-03-15*

I’ve started scanning foods while I shop and it’s been a game changer! I’m even making different choices about bagged salads and vegetable broths and things I used to assume were all healthy. I’ve also found it lowers my grocery bills to eat healthier, too. Thank you, Zoe Science and Nutrition for the research and public science communication you’re doing. You really are helping people live healthier lives. Next up: get city and rural planners, corporations and politicians on board!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2024-03-09*

Love the freedom of choosing any food and not having calorie restrictions. It’s all about learning to make healthier choices. Also seeing the suggestion to enjoy regularly versus moderately or only once in a while.

I would love to see the addition of healthy swaps to pick instead of a food with a lower rating.

### 5/5 — Great

*2024-01-27*

This app is very helpful to me keeping me on the right track.

### 5/5 — Easy!

*2024-01-02*

The scanner works, and there was only one result that didn't make sense. I'm not sure why Trader Joe's roasted red peppers would have a terrible ZOE score. The ingredients are pretty clean. I'm hoping that it's just a glitch. And that I can still enjoy these things frequently! Otherwise, this app is awesome.

### 5/5 — Great resource

*2023-12-05*

It’s hard to know what’s actually healthy, and this app does a great job of making that simple with a score out of ten, and then breaking it down into details about which elements are good or bad

### 5/5 — Easy to understand & easy to use

*2023-12-02*

Extremely user friendly and very informative! Five stars!

### 5/5 — Super helpful!

*2023-11-30*

I’ve been using this app when I grocery shop and it’s completely changed my mind on what’s healthy.

### 5/5 — Quick and Convenient!

*2023-11-29*

This app is great for a quick answer to whether a food is a healthy choice or not.
I love that it takes multiple factors like fats, sugar, fiber, etc. and summarizes it all into one score so I can simply scan an item and quickly assess if it’s a good option.
One thing that would take this to the next level is if it would suggest a better alternative whenever I scanned a low scoring food!

### 5/5 — Obsessed!

*2023-11-29*

This is my new favorite app! I just scanned a bunch of items in my pantry, and found the scale results for each item so informative … I’m looking forward to using this app the next time I’m at the grocery store.

### 5/5 — Helpful, easy, and fun to use

*2023-11-29*

Great information on what’s really healthy/not healthy and why. Super easy to use and kind of addictive.

### 5/5 — Easy and Informative!

*2023-11-29*

This app helps me make better decisions on the food I decide to purchase and consume. The barcode scanning feature allows me to quickly and easily gain nutritional information. The insights are digestible and informative. Highly recommend this app!

### 5/5 — Great food scan app - easy to understand the “why”

*2023-11-29*

Just downloaded the new Ask Zoe app and have been using it for a few days. It’s very user friendly and simple interface gets me information I want quickly.

I also love that it stores previous scans so I can easily compare similar products to choose the best one.

Best part though is they clearly show why a food is good or bad. I’ve never been into tracking macros to really understand what makes a food better than others or worse, this cuts to the point and lets me know the “why” without having to understand nutrition in a detailed way. Including learning about ultra processed foods that I’ve been hearing more about. It’s not always straight forward what makes something ultra processed, this takes guess work out if it for me and my family.

Looking forward to taking the app on my next grocery shopping trip - scans are fast, will be fun to compare items while I shop to be more informed.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Frustrating App read before you download

*2024-03-28*

I was very excited to give this a try. I was trying to eat healthier choices. First time I tried the app it worked really well but then somehow all my scans got erased. The second time I use the app it was extremely difficult to navigate the scanning page. The concept is great, but the app has a long way to go. After you scan, it wants you to share the information with a friend but it gives you no back button or intuitive directions to scan another item

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2024-03-10*

The first four items I scanned aren’t in the database and they are basic items.

### 3/5 — Needs more products in database

*2024-08-23*

7 out of 10 products I try to find AskZoe information on are not in the database.

Perhaps employees could scan more Kirkland and Trader Joe’s products.

Otherwise the premise is sound and useful.

### 3/5 — More vegan products please.

*2024-03-16*

More vegan products please. I do love this app though. I went thru Zoe testing early 2021 (I think )and there was a huge lack of info when using vegan products on Zoe.
Thank you!

### 4/5 — More

*2023-12-30*

Products not found is annoying, how can you not find Diet Coke , ….etc

### 4/5 — Good start

*2023-12-18*

It’s helpful but I’d love more specific information about the rating scales for each category. This would be especially helpful when it comes to rating a food as Ultra-processed. As I’m trying to educate myself in healthier choices, I want to know why a product is being labeled UPF. There have been a couple of products with all recognizable ingredients that still have this label.

### 5/5 — Please add delete & sort

*2025-01-01*

Love this app, very eye opening and helpful! Please add a delete item function and sort by high/low score/alphabet function. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Eye Opening!

*2024-06-06*

There are so many products I buy that I thought were healthy but they are too high in salt, or ultra processed or…! I’m shocked and sad that I have to eliminate or reduce these from my pantry. But now I know how to make my way towards a stronger gut microbiome. I’ll definitely be using this app!

### 5/5 — Frankly, love the simplicity

*2024-05-11*

I’m a med student trying to make good food choices even when busy. Love that the UI isn’t overwhelming with information. Simple and good-looking app. Good links are provided after some scans for further info if one wants to read further

### 5/5 — JUST DO IT! Go On! ASK ZOE

*2024-05-01*

There is truth in the scan! Love being able to confirm that my choices are healthy!! And when you scan that occasional splurge and see that it isn’t worth it😢Thanks Zoe!

## Most praised reviews (6 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Extremely helpful at the grocery store

*2024-04-26*

I often find myself trying to decide between two products that look about the same. I was shocked to find out the the scores can be massively different between them. This app finally helps me make the right food decisions

### 5/5 — Foods are not always as healthy as we thought

*2024-04-15*

Zoë is raising my consciousness about the frequency with which I should consume apparently healthy foods. I thought I really knew such things.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-04-11*

Request it to have US flavor as option

Additionally ability to delete scans and to sort them by keyword, alphabetical and by score

Hope I don’t get asked to leave food shops here in Staten Island.

Much used and much liked. Making it easy to make healthy choices

### 5/5 — Great app

*2024-04-11*

This is a great app, although I was depressed after realizing how much junk I had in the house. Very useful for advising which foods should be eaten at which frequency.

### 5/5 — Love this app!!

*2024-04-02*

Very great tool to have when I am shopping for healthy choices!!

### 5/5 — Easy Food Scores

*2024-03-25*

AskZOE is useful and fun to use. I take it food shopping and have purchased items because their AskZOE scores were higher than the ones on my list. I have been surprised with some foods scoring lower/higher than I expected.
I hope ZOE adds more foods into the AskZOE database and adds website access for the database. Web access could allow users to search for foods with a higher ranking or to understand components/calculation of score.
