They are good. ### 4/5 — Pretty good *2020-08-24* Some of them don’t seem right and I don’t have someone who I can ask because im not around deaf or fluent asl people also she doesn’t have any facial expression which bothers me a lot. For example I just looked up “day in and day out (everyday)” and it looks like another sign I’ve seen. Unfortunately I’m worried about doing it wrong. Upon contacting the developers they corrected the issues. The whole crew is really cool about learning ASL and this tool has been great. I like this app because of how many signs are provided, but some signs are either outdated or incorrect. One that i know is incorrect are the signs for "Missouri" and "Montana", they're actually backwards (Missouri is M-O, and Montana is that sign that's listed as the one for Missouri). It would be nice if the signs could be corrected or updated, maybe even include different ways of signing them since there are often regional differences in signs. ### 4/5 — Good dictionary *2017-12-09* Just purchased this and seems to have a good amount of words. I'm disappointed in the fact that there is no sound. I have a daughter who cannot speak but can hear. Sounds would help as we are still working on reading words. The signs are often different from what I learned in ASL class in college. No perfect! ### 2/5 — Not many signs *2019-06-02* I am a DHH long term substitute teacher for who is not fluent in ASL. I know, I know, but the district was desperate and I know enough to teach kiddos who are very young and don’t have much language since their parents don’t sign. Anyway, this app has been pretty much useless since about 90% of the time there isn’t the sign I need on here. Thank goodness for my aide who is hard of hearing and is fluent in ASL, but I feel bad always having to ask him. Also, I have an awesome paper dictionary but it takes longer to look up words and the drawings aren’t always easy to understand. If you added more signs, this would be an awesome app since the signers are very easy to understand. **Developer response:** We try to have every ASL Sign, not every English word has a sign in ASL. The English language has over 1 million words, whereas ASL only has about 5000 Signs. ASL is not a form of manually coded English. If you find a sign you feel is missing please email it to us and we will add it the next time we film. We worked hard to make this app which has helped a lot of people communicate, we hope you reconsider this review. It has been a great resource for me as a parent having a child who is non verbal and learning ASL. After the last two iOS updates the app has stopped working. I can open the app and click on the word, but the lady doesn't appear to show me how to perform the sign. 2 stars for what was once good. ### 2/5 — Some of the signs used aren't correct for ASL. *2013-11-04, version 2.2* I just started taking ASL this semester, and was looking for something to supplement my learning outside of the classroom. I found this app and decided to try it out. As I was looking through it, I realized that some of the signs are incorrect for American Sign Language. For instance, in the numbers category, # 1-5 are signed with the hand facing outwards in the video. But in reality the hand signing is supposed to be facing towards the body. Maybe in other forms of Sign Language the numbers are formed this way, but in that case the app shouldn't have been called 'ASL dictionary'. I think in theory the idea behind the app is brilliant, but the creators should have double-checked the signs used. And maybe have signs in different categories for the regions they are used? ### 2/5 — Could be better *2011-03-16* Videos are way to fast, and now I'm finding some won't even play ... Like Korea that you sign language was insulting to their language. You need get updates for Korea their sign language for Korea. Not even 12 hours of having it and I already know sentences. I use it almost daily with young children who receive speech/language services and their parents. It doesn’t have all the signs I want, but as I don’t have fluent ASL speakers around very often, it is a good source for new signs and to help me remember some I once knew. I’m a Dad with 2 deaf children who have cochlear implants. They are mostly oral and in mainstream school, but we want to be bilingual as much as possible.
