## What is Assumptions?

Most of us are wrong about the other side, and confidently so.

Assumptions gives you a way to find out how wrong. Pick an issue. Before you say anything, predict what people who disagree with you actually believe, and why. Then see real representative views next to your guess.

The gap between the two is the point. It is usually bigger than people expect, and it shrinks with practice.

YOUR ACCURACY SCORE
One number that tracks how well you read people who disagree with you. It moves when you get closer to what someone actually thinks.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Assumption Challenges: predict how the other side sees a real issue, then see what they actually said.
• Discussions at three levels: Gentle, Balanced, or Rigorous, with the opposing view put the way a thoughtful person on that side would put it, not as a strawman.
• Daily Polls: one question a day, with a breakdown of how people across the moral spectrum answered.
• The Translator: practice saying your own view in someone else's moral language.
• Moral Foundations Profile: find out which values you lean on and which ones barely register for you.
• Today's News: take on the headlines while they are still live.

WHY IT WORKS
People rarely change their minds under pressure. They change through engagement and discovery. Every part of this app rewards understanding, and nothing in it keeps score against another person.

There is no public feed, no follower count, and no ranking that rewards the hottest take. Your score is yours, and nobody else sees it. You are never labeled or sorted into a side.

The six moral foundations the app uses (care, fairness, loyalty, authority, sanctity, liberty) come from the moral psychology research popularized by Jonathan Haidt in The Righteous Mind. Assumptions is inspired by that work and is not affiliated with or endorsed by him.

Free to download. Premium removes ads and opens up Assumption Challenges, The Translator, Today's News, and your Moral Foundations Profile.

### 5/5 — Linda

*2026-07-07*

This app is amazing! It absolutely causes you to go to a deeper thought process considering someone else’s point of view. At times we get stuck in our own thought process. and we’re not able to progress. This app allows you to think outside the box in a calm, peaceful manner. it also challenges you at a deeper level. of understanding and answering those deep why questions.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 2.1.2 — 2026-08-20

Discussions now stay on the ground this app is for: political, social, and ethical questions where reasonable people genuinely disagree. If you bring up something outside that, your discussion partner will say so and point you back rather than arguing it.

### 2.1.0 — 2026-08-18

Coming back is easier now.
• A morning notification with the day's poll question. If you have already been in the app that day, it stays quiet.
• If you have not started a discussion yet, the home screen points you to one.
• The intro explaining why Assumptions exists is now skippable.
• An earlier nudge to take the Moral Foundations quiz, since your results make the rest of the app sharper.

### 2.0.4 — 2026-05-07

ASO support

### 2.0.3 — 2026-05-06

No release notes.
