## What is Astraflare?

Astraflare turns live space-weather data into a plain answer to one question: what's worth looking up for tonight?

It fuses real-time feeds from NOAA SWPC, NASA DONKI, NASA Helioviewer, USNO, CelesTrak, the Minor Planet Center and Open-Meteo with on-device astronomy — so aurora odds, clear-sky windows, solar flares, eclipse paths, satellite passes and conjunction alerts all live in one clean app.

Built for aurora chasers, astrophotographers and casual sky-watchers.

AURORA
• Live Kp index and 3-day forecast
• OVATION aurora-oval map with cloud-cover overlay
• Tonight's-window card: a plain-English verdict combining twilight, Kp, moon, clouds and latitude
• Bortle light-pollution hint for your spot
• Photography assistant with camera recipes (ISO, shutter, aperture) tuned to conditions and a "leave by" countdown

SOLAR
• Live SDO imagery (AIA 171, AIA 304, HMI) and SOHO LASCO C2/C3 coronagraphs
• X-ray flux chart, flare probability, recent-flares log
• Solar wind — speed, density, Bz — on 12 h / 24 h / 7 d ranges
• Sunspot number, F10.7, Solar Cycle 25 progress
• Coronal-hole tracker and high-speed-stream events
• CME tracking with a 3-D propagation orrery
• NOAA R / S / G space-weather scales at a glance

SKY
• Moon phase, illumination, rise / set / transit
• Civil, nautical and astronomical twilight windows
• Planets tonight — rise / set, altitude, magnitude
• Comets tonight from Minor Planet Center orbital elements
• Visible satellite passes (ISS, Starlink and more) — computed on-device via SGP4, no server round-trip

EVENTS
• Solar and lunar eclipses through 2100 with local circumstances and path rendering
• Meteor-shower calendar from IMO data — peak dates, ZHR, radiant altitude
• Planetary conjunctions and planet parades
• 30-day geomagnetic-storm history

ALERTS
• Live SWPC bulletins categorised by type (geomagnetic, flare, radiation, radio blackout)
• Configurable push notifications — Kp threshold, minimum flare class, conjunction separation angle, planet-parade size, eclipses visible from your location
• Background polling plus server-side push so you don't miss a short-notice event

THE LITTLE THINGS
• Share Tonight — one-tap 1080 × 1350 portrait card of your best sky event
• Every on-screen term has an info button linking to a built-in glossary — nothing stays jargon
• UTC or local time, your choice
• iPhone-only, cached data works offline, no account required

Astraflare is made independently by Eldwyn Labs. We are not affiliated with NASA, NOAA or USNO; we gratefully rely on their public data.

### 5/5 — Really useful for planning ahead

*2026-08-06*

I’ve tried a few aurora apps, but this is the first one that gives me all the information I actually need without making it confusing. Being able to check aurora activity, cloud cover, moonlight and the best viewing time in one place is incredibly handy. I also enjoy browsing the upcoming eclipses and meteor showers. Clean, informative, and well worth having on your phone.

### 5/5 — Everything I need for a night under the stars

*2026-07-29*

Astraflare makes space weather and stargazing information surprisingly easy to understand. I especially like the clear aurora forecast, cloud cover, moon conditions, and the suggested times for heading outside. It’s also great having meteor showers, eclipses, planets, and solar activity all in one place instead of checking several different apps. The design is beautiful, and the explanations are genuinely helpful when you’re not familiar with all the technical terms. A must-have for aurora chasers and anyone curious about the night sky. Everything I need for a night under the stars

## Frequently asked questions about Astraflare

### What is Astraflare's main purpose?

Astraflare's main purpose is to translate live space-weather data into easy-to-understand information about what celestial events are worth observing. It focuses on aurora, solar activity, and other sky phenomena.

### Does Astraflare have ads?

No, Astraflare is ad-free. It is a free application that does not display advertisements to users.

### What kind of aurora information does Astraflare provide?

Astraflare provides live Kp index, a 3-day forecast, an aurora-oval map with cloud-cover overlay, and a "tonight's-window" card that combines twilight, Kp, moon, clouds, and latitude for a clear verdict.

### Can Astraflare help with astrophotography?

Yes, Astraflare includes a photography assistant with camera recipes tuned to current conditions and a "leave by" countdown, specifically designed to aid astrophotographers.

### What solar activity does Astraflare track?

Astraflare tracks live SDO and SOHO imagery, X-ray flux, flare probability, solar wind data, sunspot numbers, coronal-hole activity, and CME propagation.

### Does Astraflare work offline?

Yes, Astraflare is an iPhone-only app that caches data and works offline, meaning you don't need an internet connection to view most of its information.

### How often is Astraflare updated?

The latest version of Astraflare is 1.3.0, which was last updated on August 1, 2026. This indicates a relatively frequent update schedule for new features and data.

Astraflare is currently only available for iPhones. It is not supported on iPads or Android devices.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-01

• The Moon and Sun cards now show their current position from your location — compass direction, azimuth, and degrees above or below the horizon, updating as you watch
• Rise, transit and set events now include the direction to look, plus the object's altitude at its highest point
• The CME solar system view now draws each planet's real elliptical orbit and widens the frame so Mars stays fully visible
• Fixed overlapping labels in the twilight windows card

### 1.2.0 — 2026-07-31

- New Trip Mode — search any place or drop in coordinates to plan aurora and eclipse trips, with times shown in the destination's local zone
- Better offline support: the app shows the latest cached readings instead of failing, and flags when they're out of date
- Lunar-occultation predictions are now specific to your location, so you know whether you'll actually see it
- Sharper planet, Moon, comet, and satellite predictions, plus an expanded plain-language glossary

### 1.1.0 — 2026-07-04

- Fixed a Solar tab error — solar wind speed, density, and magnetic-field charts now load reliably after an upstream data change.

### 1.0.0 — 2026-06-02

No release notes.
