### 2/5 — More zoom is needed.

*2021-06-30*

This app is workable, but barely. Please have mercy on your older readers and allow the pages to be zoomed MUCH more than they are in the current version.

Literally, we'd be much better off with a simple PDF viewer at this point.

### 1/5 — What is the Point

*2021-04-02*

This app keeps promoting the ability to subscribe through your iphone without any means of doing so.

### 1/5 — What a mess

*2021-02-26, version 7.0.3*

I’m not even sure what I’m supposed to do after managing to log in. There’s no way to manage your subscription from this app. Grrr.

### 1/5 — Terrible Service - no magazine but you can’t stop your subscription!

*2021-02-25*

For God’s sake keep away from this service - Great magazine but it is just about a scam now - the site supplies you with zero magazines but gives you no way of stopping your subscription - And their User Services is just a black hole..
Am only writing in the hope that somebody from Kalmbach Publishing will read this and help me out - A very distant hope no doubt.
Actually one star is one too many...

### 1/5 — Terrible!

*2020-08-31*

Have never been able to read a single issue since the app does not work. Have tried reinstalling many times but it still won’t work.

### 1/5 — Agree it is UNUSABLE

*2020-08-07*

I’ve tried to reload the new app several times, and it will not “restore purchases”....just sits there trying to update? If not fixed soon, I will delete my subscription. I’ve had Astronomy magazine for decades and sad to see the new app fail...

### 1/5 — Complete waste of time

*2020-08-07*

I have tried and tried to get this to work but fails
They never reply to any messages and bombard me with offers
Please do not waste your time or money
The content excellent the app bloody useless

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2020-07-18*

As others have said, the app is as bad as the print version is good. Honestly, how could you release an app that is so awful?!

### 1/5 — Echoing Others

*2020-07-13*

This is indeed a great magazine that I have enjoyed for nearly 20 years. But as so many others have said, the app is as bad as the magazine is good. Previous versions have been a little wonky now and again but the current one is unusable. My local library will thank you for the print copies to which I will now subscribe and pass on when finished.

### 1/5 — Does not work after the first issue

*2020-06-20*

First issue worked fine. After that, the wheel spins and no magazine. I’m still being charged for it, though. That’s a clever business model.

### 1/5 — Why...

*2020-06-06*

The Astronomy magazine is 100% one of the best astro mag in the world but sadly let down by this most buggy of apps - constantly having to delete this app then reload - someone fix this - previous version was great.

### 1/5 — wont even load

*2020-05-17*

i love this mag... wanted to get the digital version, read the reviews and thought i would still give it a try... would not even load.

i would be embarrased if i were part of the developer team or their manager... and where is qa... do the magazine publishers even care... wow... pretty darn lame

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2020-05-07, version 7.0.3*

Does not even load. Sky and Telescope here I come.

### 1/5 — Poor app unusable

*2020-04-27*

Very low level and effort into the app. Logged out, cant log in, no “forgot pw”. Canceled subscription. Can’t believe how mediocre it is.
Still same pathetic app. They did not fix it. Now cannot access my issues that I PAID FOR. Will never buy again. What a shame, great content wasted by a poor app.

### 1/5 — Very bad app now

*2020-04-13*

This app used to be fine but even after reinstalling several times I just ( like others ) get the spinning wheel of doom. Please sort this out devs.

### 1/5 — Great Magazine, Garbage App

*2020-02-26, version 7.0.3*

It doesn’t load. It just sits and spins.

Unsubscribing.

### 1/5 — Just hangs

*2020-02-20*

Since the new version downloaded the app just hangs. Tried several reinstalls. No support for iTunes subscription. Unfortunately I just renewed for another year.

### 1/5 — Do not download

*2020-02-14*

Bought a magazine, doesn’t show up as purchased, click restore purchases, app doesn’t even load up anymore. Either a scam or ineptitude but either way don’t download this hunk of feces.

### 1/5 — Just cancelled my subscription

*2020-01-09*

The new app is cumbersome and unusable. I lost all of my downloads and can’t use offline. I enjoyed this app and magazine for five years, but no more.

### 1/5 — Great mag, awful app

*2019-12-30*

Used to work great with the old app for years. Love the magazine, but why is the newer app only working if I delete and reinstall it on IPad? This seems to be required to get around spinning icon which never gets to magazines. Also please quit getting me to click that your US based each time I open it, once is enough.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Useless app

*2026-07-26*

The app is useless. I’m unable to sign in with an existing subscription. Won’t take account UD or email. Not paying for a second subscription.

### 1/5 — Can’t log in.

*2024-02-11*

I really enjoy Astronomy Magazine. Definitely my favorite one out there. The app won’t let me log in. Which makes it useless. This is unfortunate. Please fix this application.

### 1/5 — Please fix this app

*2022-10-16, version 7.0.3*

You guys are great, but you absolutely need to fix this app. Your readers are here, your readers are digital.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2022-05-24*

Two MANY commercials. Half or better thumbnails commercials. Ridiculous! I’m out, all done with this crap.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2022-03-19*

I renewed my subscription after a 4 year hiatus.

I never received info on how to access my digital subscription.

When I called Kalmbach publishing they told me that they no longer support the Astronomy magazine app. So why is it still in the App Store.

So sad to see how horrible the magazine has become.

### 1/5 — Embarrassing!

*2021-10-07*

I have a question for, Kalmbach: are you seriously not ashamed of yourselves maintaining a garbage app like this? This app is designed before the release of the App Store … you ought to tell people before signing them app for a digital subscription that there’s no way they’d be able to access the digital content ! This is garbage.

### 1/5 — Bad app

*2021-05-29*

This app is not working properly. They sent first two issues which I can download and read but after all issues are locked. You can’t download or read. After complaining many times they do nothing and they stop answering my emails. They even don’t acknowledge that I am subscriber and blame Apple that they do not share data about who has subscribed through Appple App Store.

### 1/5 — Stopped Working as of June 21 issue

*2021-05-24*

Issues had been downloading fine until the June and July 2021 issues which are now locked and will not restore, despite my iTunes subscription not expiring until October. Getting them requires entering a password and the iTunes account info doesn’t work for this. Deleting and reinstalling the app didn’t work - it only allowed restoring issues up to May 21.
So the app has taken my money without continuing to provide the issues, and contacting Kalmbach subscriber assistance does not work because as far as they are concerned you’re not a subscriber with a subscription account #. But they are the ones responsible for the app.

### 1/5 — Terrible - won’t let you download magazine with a valid subscription

*2021-05-23*

Got a valid yearly subscription paid for 12th July 2020 and it won’t let you me download the June 2021 copy - utter rubbish as there is no support/help option on the app!
Don’t buy it this way!!!!

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2021-04-05, version 7.0.3*

As others have said, this app should get a negative rating since it is totally not usable—I cannot even log in. Called Astronomy magazine and was told to contact Apple. What does Apple have anything to do with the log-in of the app, which is developed by Kalmbach media?

I was able to access the digital version from zinio.com or Zinio app. However, the digital content is simply scan of the pages. National Geographic digital content is much better tailored to the online consumption.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Problems with June 14 version

*2017-06-23*

I have been an astronomy magazine subscriber for years, and this app has been great. I'd say, it was a five star app. The June 14 version though does not even open on my iPad 3, running iOS 9.3.5, which is the latest apple has developed for the iPad 3. Please fix it, I have no other way to contact you. Thanks.

Update: I deleted the app and reinstalled it and it works fine. So back to five stars.

### 5/5 — Please remove from my downloaded app My phone is running out of space .

*2016-06-28*

Thank you.

### 5/5 — Great app!! 😊😊😊

*2014-11-20, version 3.1*

I used to subscribe Astronomy magazine and Sky and telescope in print. This app is extremely awesome😇. I noticed Sky and Telescope app has undesirable reviews...I'll probably wait til app is fixed 😒

### 5/5 — Like it

*2013-03-24*

It's a good magazine if your on the go.

### 5/5 — You do have to pay for the subscription....the app is free, content is not.

*2013-03-09, version 7.10.2*

Exactly the same as the newsstand edition. Still my favorite astronomy rag after 25+ years. The nice thing about digital is no worrying about storage and keeping them from getting ruined!

### 5/5 — A magazine and app

*2013-02-02, version 7.10*

This is a true science magazine, with informative articles and of course great pictures, as well as great ads for the amateur astronomer (yes I said great ads! And yes I’m a real user). It’s great to find out what’s going on in the sky now, learn about some of the latest science, and to wonder at the universe.
I've been an iOS user since the original iPhone in 2007. I tried the newsstand magazines back when they first came out. I was not impressed. I've recently started checking them out again and am glad to see they've come a long ways. The Astronomy app works great. It's just like flipping through the real magazine, which I have subscribed too since I was a kid. It's nice to have it with me to read articles while waiting around somewhere.
For those complaining about the workings of the newsstand, (i.e. download a magazine app, download and browse through the free issues, then subscribe if you like it) it did take some getting used to for me also. Also, since different companies make mag apps in the newsstand, the experience is different for each company. However, it does seem to be getting more consistent.

As far as those complaining about the cost of the subscription, give me a break and grow up to the real world. These specialty magazines cost a lot to create and we have to pay accordingly. When you grow up you will realize that the “free” (or more likely, stolen) idea, is the wishing of children who don’t understand how the world works.

### 5/5 — Lazy people these days...

*2012-12-31, version 7.10*

Why doesn't everyone who's complaining, you know, actually do something? There is a button "app support" prominently displayed RIGHT NEXT TO THE "WRITE REVIEW" BUTTON. And if you really don't feel like writing that long review, than go to the website. Don't waste your time writing nasty reviews. I understand what everyone means, because I subscribe the magazine, too, but I'm sure most people have 2 minutes to spare to send the app makers an email that says "I subscribe to this magazine, here's my proof that I do, so let me be able to download magazines from my iPod." Not so difficult, is it?

### 5/5 — Just as advertised

*2012-12-18, version 7.10*

The app is free, kids, but you still have to buy the magazine to have the magazine. They should just delete the bad reviews where people don't understand how magazine apps work.

In this case it's a magazine about science, so if you can't figure out the app, the content is probably wasted on you anyway. For everyone else: it's Astronomy magazine! How cool is that?

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2012-08-27*

This app is the best app EVER!!

### 5/5 — Echt interessant

*2012-08-21*
