### 4/5 — Good, but too much

*2026-08-27, version 5.0.3*

I really like this app, but I don't use any of the features aside from the photo journal. I have no interest in an AI coach, personally.

I wish there was a lower subscription tier with restricted features, but I understand that it might not be feasible/profitable. Unfortunately, for $9.99 per month, I just can't justify it when everything else is getting more and more expensive.

Kudos to the devs for making a great app.

### 4/5 — Request for the developers

*2026-07-10, version 5.0*

1. Can we PLEASE have the option to return to square photos? I know it’s a visual thing but I can’t be alone in this. If it is possible to create a toggle in the settings to the new way or square I would love this feature.

2. Can we get a fasting timer instead of it starting from the picture of our last meal? Since we already have the option to turn fasting on and off. I’ve been going in and changing the time to when I finished eating so that I can get a more accurate picture and it becomes cumbersome after a while.

I throughly enjoy this app after being a long term original user before it became a subscription and I got miffed and left. I’ve been back for a few years since and I get it, gotta keep the app going somehow and I find it very helpful for my mindful eating habits.

### 3/5 — the pay wall is stupid

*2026-06-14, version 4.1.7*

other than that i really like this app. but i just want to take pictures of my food. i dont like how this app is unusable most of the time because of that stupid upgrade pop-up

### 3/5 — Great, would appreciate more features.

*2026-05-28, version 4.1.6*

Very cute, positive, easy to use. I would appreciate if I could add photos for drinks, movement, etc. instead of just food. I would also appreciate an option to track my period with it (my goal is to understand my eating patterns and hormones play a roll in that).

### 3/5 — Love the concept / I am still learning how to best use

*2026-05-28, version 4.1.6*

I’m loving the snapshot of my day/week/beyond that this collates. I would like greater accuracy of nutritional data that relates to standard meals (eg a measured protein shake with water). Taking a photo of the data on the package doesnt seem to gather this. Also having a bank of favourites is useful, and perhaps these favourites could incorporate a reliable breakdown that could be entered and carried forward for each use. Photos of meals seems to identify the contents, and I just need some added discipline around adding some notes to produce a more accurate interpretation. But all in all, it is by far the closest to what I have been seeking in my food and habit tracking. Thanks!

### 3/5 — Edits

*2026-05-22, version 4.1.6*

I would like to be able to edit my messages. When I add to analysis and am specific about weights and measures, the AI output is often still inaccurate and omits condiments.

### 4/5 — Great…with one annoying bug

*2026-03-21, version 4.1.3*

I’ve been using the app religiously for a couple of months. I love how easy it is to stay accountable. Also like the integration with my scale and workout apps. One bug that’s started to happen is when I try to make an update to the analysis, it erases the entire analysis and I have to re-enter everything. Sometimes it doesn’t get the analysis back at all. Once that’s fixed, five stars!

### 2/5 — The photo analysis function always has negative feedback

*2026-02-25*

The app is fine until you use the photo anaylisis feature. It will always tell you its not good. The first few times I didnt care beacsue my meals were not as good as it could have been but even if you do the suggestions it says and you replace everything with the “better option” it still says its processed even if you made it from scratch or its high in sodium even if you used all low sodium or it not enough veggies or its high in sugar when there's no sugar. It will always says its a bad meal. I know its just suggestions but if they want you to pay for this and use this for best results that dont make it shame you for every meal you eat. I was told that my fruit bowl was “too high in processes sugar and I should try something lighter next time”!!! How much lighter van I get than a single apple with a few grapes. The only meals that got a ok result were ones where I litterly had a single grape on the picture. That's not how healthy eating works its not just eating a light as possible. I was getting so stressed trying to make the meals so they would pass this stupid analysis and its not possible or healthy.

### 2/5 — AI overview is so far off

*2026-02-02, version 4.1*

The AI overview seemed useful but it’s so far off. How is a bowl of beans low nutrients and little protein? How is banana & strawberries and low fat plain yogurt highly processed sugar? I highly regret this annual purchase but it’s one of the only photo tracking apps … I will definitely not be renewing at the end of my year.

### 4/5 — ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

*2026-01-30, version 4.1*

yah it’s paid and used to be free but it’s a rlly great app (nicest UI of any food tracking app i’ve used) and the support is always so fast and helpful. I do wish they had better monthly rates though.

### 5/5 — Lost 70 lbs and kept it off! 🥳

*2026-01-22, version 4.1*

Update: Love the new smart insights. Understanding the nutritional value of meals and the connection between that and how I feel is a game changer!
I am finally hitting my protein goals!
****
Started using this app a few years ago. I was trying to get my health back (and yes, that included dropping some unwanted pounds that sneaked up on me) but I was struggling with being consistent. I would make progress for a couple of weeks, but wasn’t able to stick to it. AteMate really helped me with that consistency around my eating habits, sleep, and regular movement. I became a lot more attuned to what my body is asking for. When I am actually hungry vs when I just need a glass of water or some distraction. It also helped me improve on the quality of my meals and really cut back on snacking. Looking forward to see what they come up with next.
And yes, it’s a subscription based app that is well worth it! It’s also nice to know that all my highly personal data is not sold to advertisers.
Update: Love the new weekly AI analysis. Really helping me improve my habits. This app is such a great food tracker. 🙏

### 2/5 — Sad it’s paid now

*2026-01-04, version 4.1*

I used this app YEARS ago and loved it. I’m on a new healthy eating journey so I wanted to redownload the app. It was cool to see they’ve added new features but I am extremely bummed to see the app is no longer free.. probably because they introduced AI, idk. ($10 a month also seems astronomical for what the app actually gives you) I don’t see that there’s an easy free version to have access to either, which I would prefer if there were just features that were locked unless you paid a subscription. Love this app, definitely still download it if you can afford it.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Ai coach

*2026-07-13, version 5.0*

How am I supposed to stay healthy when ai data centres are destroying the planet?! The advice it gives will not always be correct, I do not want this, especially when it comes to my health.

### 1/5 — No thanks

*2026-06-03, version 4.1.7*

Agree with the other reviews saying the app uses deceptive patterns, and presents as free after you’ve provided personal info and created an account. An actual “free trial” shouldn’t require a payment commitment before I get to explore the basic interface and features and decide if it suits me.

### 1/5 — Blah

*2026-05-01, version 4.1.4*

You need premium to do anything, only downloading the app is free

### 1/5 — Wasted my time

*2026-04-24, version 4.1.4*

Doesn’t tell you you have to pay until after you’ve already gone through submitting all your information

### 1/5 — Subscription

*2026-02-18, version 4.1.1*

I wish these apps would declare ight up front that there is no free version, only subscription offers. I was faked out again!

### 1/5 — Paid app

*2026-01-29, version 4.1*

Not just in-app purchases. Can’t use At all without credit card. Burn it.

### 1/5 — Make you sign up before telling you there is a subscription

*2026-01-08, version 4.1*

Another app that makes you answer 10 questions only to stick you behind a paywall at the end. Please be honest with users before they waist their time.

### 1/5 — It costs money

*2025-12-09, version 4.0.3*

I understand that you have 2 payment options and therefore have to make the original app free. However, the first image - or your description - should state that to use your app, you need to pay.

### 1/5 — $9.99/month

*2025-12-09, version 4.0.3*

Stingy

### 1/5 — Charged for trial period

*2025-12-09, version 4.0.3*

I was charged $9.99 yesterday after signing up for the 7 day trial period and then monthly, I cancelled the same day and my card was still charged. DO NOT USE THIS APP. Waiting to hear back from the company but seems like a scam until I hear otherwise.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Worth the Cost

*2026-08-28, version 5.0.3*

I was skeptical - because I hate forced subscription apps - but this is worth the money. After using it for a month, I feel I am really healing my relationship with food. It tracks in a beautiful visual format with no judgement. I also love how everything is in one place - movement, fasting, sleep, measurements, tracking - rather than using multiple apps like I was in the past.

### 5/5 — Amazing App!

*2026-08-22, version 5.0.3*

I used this app while I was losing weight after my first child. It helped me lose 30lbs! When I was pregnant with my second I had gestational diabetes and this app synced seamlessly with my blood sugar reader and I also used it to keep track of my steps and of course I use the photos to remember what I ate that day. Love it so much!

### 5/5 — Fun alternative to counting calories

*2026-08-10, version 5.0.2*

I really enjoy seeing my food through pictures as a way to be more accountable about what I’m eating everyday. It motivates me to add more color and variety to my diet - which encourages me to eat healthier overall. Random bonus: it’s nice to know for sure how old my leftovers are or when I opened that container of cream cheese lol!

### 5/5 — Excellent for intermittent fasting

*2026-07-01, version 4.1.7*

Time stamped pics keep track of frequency and fasting periods. I no longer have to use a fasting app where I have to start and stop my fast constantly if I eat something. This just time stamps it and keeps track. The best.

### 5/5 — So useful

*2026-06-16, version 4.1.7*

This app has so many useful features. It has so easy to use. Works absolutely perfect with my food plans.

### 5/5 — The Best

*2026-06-10, version 4.1.7*

I’ve been using this app for years. I cannot live without it. I have used it in so many different ways. It’s so versatile. The app is updated and continuously gets better all the time. It’s worth every penny.

### 5/5 — Actually changed my life

*2026-05-19, version 4.1.6*

This app makes it so easy to move towards an intuitive eating and intuitive healthy life. The data is also very helpful too. I’m glad I got this app

### 5/5 — Great

*2026-05-18, version 4.1.5*

Love this app. It is not super fancy but I like that it’s not a hardcore dieting app. I take a picture and it gently recommends changes, and that’s what I need :)

### 5/5 — Great for Intuitive Eating

*2026-04-30*

As someone who has a poor relationship with calorie counting but want to easily track what i eat for my diet, this app has been amazing for my needs! I’ve been using it for over a year now and i love it! I have the app for quick access as a widget on my lock screen. Friends think i’m just taking pic of my food but it’s really me tracking it for my diet! so sneaky and easy and sustainable ^^ I love that it also tracks my movement and weigh-in’s all visible in one place. Thank you for building this app! It’s the first app i’ve used consistently for so long, and look forward to viewing instead of dreading opening a page full of metrics ^^ the other apps were too overwhelming with too many things to input it was hard to keep up. The photos here help me with general accountability because i often forget what i eat. Helps me be honest if i’d been eating more off-path food than i thought.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the kind words! 🙏 Happy to hear that our intuitive eating focused food journal is helping you in your health journey. Our goal was to build a super easy to use, yet powerful journaling too that can help you be more mindful about your daily food and health choices. We hope you find what works for you and able to maintain it. Find your Healthy!

### 5/5 — Fast & easy food journal. Helped me loose 70 lbs and kept it off!

*2026-04-23, version 4.1.4*

This is the fastest, easiest to use food journal out there. Can save a meal in a few taps. Use it every day and living it. The Why did you eat question really puts things into perspective. Changed my life. Thanks! 🙏
