I don’t bring a laptop to the patient’s room. So many annoying unnecessary steps that add on to my overall dissatisfaction with the Athena platform. ### 2/5 — App closes as soon as it opens *2024-07-30, version 1.7.3* iOS 15, our iPad can’t update further. ### 2/5 — Good when it works *2024-01-25, version 1.7.0* It’s a great tool when it works Even though it doesn’t show up on the actual patient chart right away and it’s hard to view and retrieve later on (the actual titles descriptions disappear) The main problem with it is that it’s glitchy It works 50% of the time, the other 50% it’s a blank screen and I’m not in a rainforest in hawaii, I’m in suburbia with giga speed internet and a new iPhone (Athena is not very receptive to feedback, they put as many roadblocks as they can in front of the end user so that they don’t have to deal with problems and can go on congratulating themselves for a job well done. However they have one thing going for them, Athena is not as crappy as EPIC) ### 2/5 — Issues with scanning the code box *2022-04-23, version 1.5.6* My iPhone 13 has serious issues with scanning the box. It just doesn’t register until I move my phone around in all directions until pop it finally will take. I didn’t have this issue with my older iPhone and I’m wondering if this new iPhone is just not compatible with the app. Please advise! ### 3/5 — Nice app *2019-01-11, version 1.4.1* Great app but needs support to allow upload of photos stored on your phone. As of now you can only upload photos you take after scanning barcode. This is not always possible to do in the clinical setting. ### 3/5 — Nice but flawed *2018-07-18, version 1.4.1* This is a great app, it’s nice to be able to upload photo documentation into a patient’s chart, but it seems to be lacking a basic feature. I should be able to upload photos already on my phone rather than having to take the photo on demand. However for the last 4 days , nothing!! The camera does not work to scan the QR code! I can bypass it by turning flash on but it’s annoying. It also doesn’t focus on the text of the insurance card so everything I upload is blurry and unusable. ### 1/5 — 2 major issues make this useless *2020-09-05, version 1.4.5* athenaNet forces the photos you add into a short and wide aspect ratio for display in the chart. It is very difficult to take a useful photo with that size and shape. Allowing the height to be flexible to support any aspect ratio would be a huge quality of life improvement. Additionally many of us take pictures when seeing patients and then import them later when writing documentation. This app does not allow selecting an image from the device to import, only lets you take one from the camera. ### 1/5 — how embarrassing! *2017-10-14, version 1.3.2* Primitive app that requires you to be at your computer to collect scan that links the patient to the photo you’re taking and insists that you make the connection & take the photo within an Athena-defined time frame, else restart the preposterous linking routine; the app obviously needs to be embedded in Athena mobile which would allow one to check-in to the patient’s chart, making the link there, take the photo & send it into the ether connected; that way you can take photos on a home visit, readily add photos into a completed visit, etc. Aldo, the photos end up buried layers deep in document files. Labeling photos is a bizarre process and no matter what you label them, you still end up on first attempt at locating them, finding them (if you can!) labelled, eg, “procedure documentation #235” or such; if you have more than several photos in one visit you have to click on each one to find it’s real label. I could go on; an utterly abominable attempt at a functioning app; truly a case where nothing would have been better than this something. Solution: Athena, go buy someone else’s app, reverse engineer it & find out how it’s really done. They’ve re-invented the wheel and it came out square. ### 2/5 — Nice try, but super glitchy and limited functionality *2026-02-04, version 1.7.5* For example, I cannot get the flash to turn off. And on the occasions I do get the app to respond to my tap to turn the flash off, it resets when I go the next page. It’s also not responsive to my touch for cropping. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Invaluable tool *2017-11-10, version 1.4.0* When adding a picture to the chart you on the fly it is a necessity. It moves fast even to use even during the busiest parts of the day. I use this app several times per week. ### 4/5 — Upload issues *2022-09-17, version 1.6.1* We are in an area with intermittent/very slow internet speeds, in a rainforest in Hawaii, and the app has no option to continue an upload later or upload from photos taken, so one patient’s photos grind everything to a halt on our single encrypted clinic phone. We will also get network error in the app and can’t move on from being stuck on one patient . Please facilitate ability to restart stopped upload or upload saved photos so we can use the app. Queuing multiple patients photos would be useful as well in the same way. ### 4/5 — So far so good *2021-08-21, version 1.5.0* I was “Forced” to switch from using my phone browserTo this app. But actually like the app quite well. I can finish my patient cases quite easily, and after hours check on patients labs and results. Beyond that, it works well. ### 4/5 — Works great *2019-01-29, version 1.4.1* I like using it to document rashes, lacs, diabetic feet etc. I wish it had an overlying ruler or other marker as a reference. I do show patients what I’m doing and demonstrate that no photos remain on my phone. I don’t think it works as well for document uploading. There generally is a shadow cast on the document and unlike the scanner apps it does not change to a PDF file. ### 4/5 — Disagree with the other lady *2018-11-11, version 1.4.1* Simply because if you are uploading based on what’s in your phone, it means you’re storing patient info or images on your device. Just seems safer to delete it. 4 stars because I wish it was a few seconds faster. Nitpicky but it seems to add up.
