### 3/5 — Works Ok

*2011-10-18*

After many attempts I was able to get my log to transfer over from my 3GS to the 4S phone. Emailing to gmail, then on my laptop copying and pasting into the body of a new email, followed by emailing to the new phone was what finally did it for me. All my info appears to be there, however the app still crashes when trying to see the Totals in the Monthly and Yearly views. Weekly view appears to work ok. I was able to input a new work out and it saved ok.

I really like this app, so I'm glad that you are keeping it going. Once all the views work again I'll update to five stars.

### 3/5 — Doesn't work with ios5

*2011-10-16*

Worked well until I upgraded to iOs 5.

### 3/5 — Really good app

*2010-08-20, version 0*

Really good app. I love it as can now store all my tri training log electronically. They just need to add max & average Heart Rate & definitely need the ability to be able to go to a new line in the notes section! There's no return button available on keyboard! Otherwise fantastic app! ;-)

### 4/5 — This is my favorite exercise app

*2010-06-11*

In my area, the iPhone gps does not function well in the tree cover, so most of apps using a gps just don't work well for me. I love this app and used it to train for the Big Sur marathon. It was perfect for tracking my workouts.

### 4/5 — Paper & pen convert...

*2009-09-16*

It's tough to find a training log as customizable as paper & pencil, but this one finally fit the bill. It logs all the pertinent info, totals it, is searchable, has plenty of space for notes & route info, & allows for many differnt sports. The biggest plus is the ability to download/upload btw iPhone & computer (works with separately sold software - unfortunately extra $$, but worth it for bigger picture & alternate info views). Graphically this app isn't very good looking compared to others, but I got over it. Also, it doesn't allow for a training week's totals to start on Monday (Sun only)...but the developers promise that this is coming in future updates. An expensive app, but really the only one of its kind...very worth it.

### 3/5 — Good Start - BUT

*2009-05-10*

DIrections on upload/download on Stevens Creek site are unintelligible. Easy enough to download a .tad file to the phone, impossible to move data the other way. Instructions say you can email a .txt file to desktop from phone (true), but there is no way to import .txt in to the desktop program. Wished the iPhone to desktop synch worked as well as OmniFocus - another database program that synchs across iPhone and multiple computers with ease. Hopefully this can be remedied, because the interface ont eh phone otherwise looks great.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Dropbox

*2024-04-11*

Only when this app is first installed, does dropbox work for about an hour and then it stops working and will not sync and will quickly erase all your data unless you’re very careful. The developer needs to fix this if you want to continue to get good reviews so fix it.

### 1/5 — Dear Diary…

*2022-09-25*

Been using this app for years, then recently it stopped working. I contacted support and got crickets. So, for months nowI’ve been unable to log my workouts. I certainly wouldn’t buy this app again.

### 1/5 — Waste of £13

*2012-09-05, version 4.0.2*

Bought this app based on previous reviews but cannot see the value. Disappointed.

### 1/5 — Biggest waste of money on I-Tunes Apps

*2011-03-17*

Doesn't have GPS. Doesn't have a timer. Doesn't sync with anything unless you pay MORE money for their website. Icontacted them for help and their answers were rude and obnoxious. A complete waste of money. I feel like a fool. There are .99 apps that do much more.

### 1/5 — TOTAL Waste of Money!

*2011-01-04*

There are free apps that are better than this. This app is dated and not very user friendly. It doesn't work very well either. You can't change certain preferences after they're entered, and it's pretty limited in what it does. I wouldn't download it if it was free. Just blew $20. Plan to delete.

### 1/5 — No iPhone features

*2010-04-24*

For $20, I was certain that this program would have taken advantage of the new iPhones GPS capability or at a minimum the built-in clock to time workouts. Sadly, neither are incorporated in this product. It does however allow you to place a photo on a Journal Entry page. So if you feel the need to type a log instead of write one, or do an electronic search to find a particular workout vs. flipping the pages back in a journal, buy this product. Otherwise, keep searching.

The more I use other apps that cost 99 cents, I can't stress enough what a waste of money this $20 app is. They seem to be big on calculating the 3rd number (input time and distance and it will miraculously give you pace per whatever) but consider MotionX GPS which tracks everything.

### 2/5 — Main gripe - price tag!

*2012-01-29, version 3.0.2*

Very overpriced app for what if offers - very basic training stats. Simplicity is not a bad thing though - in fact this is was attracted me to this app, but at this price a simple desktop application should be available at small cost or a more featured iPad version available. Agreed, it can be run on iPad, but it just emulates iPhone/iPod on a very small display. Desktop version seems to cost as much, even with a discount.

### 2/5 — Not worth the $$

*2010-09-16*

This would be a great app for $4.99 or less. The ability to store & track personalized workouts is very well designed, though it does not allow for calorie tracking, visual calendar tracking (I.e. A month-view of colored days for varied intensity levels) or utilize the gps.
The interface is very standard- it says the program has been around since 1995, and the UI probably hasn't changed since the first Palm release. You also can't do anything with your data unless you pay for the site.
With the great looking & functioning apps out the, it's baffling why this is $20.00; you could easily make a google spreadsheet to track the same data.

### 3/5 — Will not sync with Dropbox

*2017-10-24*

This app does not sync with Dropbox as advertised, despite two months of promises that it will. Otherwise it would be great.

### 3/5 — Needs updating.

*2014-04-24*

I've used The Athlete's Diary for probably ten years. Every single day! First on my PDA and then on my iPhone. I have the desktop version, too.

After all this time, I have lost interest in using it. The fonts are too small. It is not an attractive or intuitive app. Compared to many modern and HD apps it look really dated.

I started marking my workouts on a paper calendar and it is easier!

### 5/5 — finally UPDATED

*2022-03-30*

update to my review:

Night Mode is broken. iPad app is still not sized for full screen. I hope the developer plans to continue revitalizing this very useful app.
————————

I started using Athlete’s Diary about 1996, and have stuck with it, even though it hasn’t been updated for the last four years! I thought for sure its days were numbered. It never transitioned to larger phone screens (iPhone X). But it continued to log thousands of entries, reliably. During the interim, I sent emails to the developer, but didn’t receive a reply. This morning, I was shocked and delighted to see an update on my phone. The Athlete’s Diary is a warhorse of logbook software. It can seem limited, without a lot of flair—some of the icons look to be pre-retinal display—but its features are essential. I have nearly 16,000 entries logged into it, and I don’t think it’s ever crashed. I hope it continues to get updated in the years ahead. (PS, I hope The Athlete’s Diary on my Mac and iPad have been updated too!)

### 5/5 — Simply perfect

*2017-11-01*

Very nice app. Easy to configure. Keep track of everything I want. Expensive but quality is priceless...

Used it since 2009... Always up-to-date!

### 5/5 — TAD is the best activity tracking software I

*2011-10-14*

The Athlete's Diary is awesome! I've been using it for years on my desktop computer and Treo to track my training progress. If fact, it was the only reason I was holding onto my Treo! TAD had become so important to my daily training that I was still using my Treo even though I canceled the phone service months ago when I got my iPhone!

The Athlete's Diary is super easy to use. Just enter your time and distance and TAD does the rest. Use the graphs to see your daily, weekly, monthly, yearly totals. Filter by activity or favorite route to see your progress leading up to a major race or competition. The Autofill feature to makes data entry even faster by automatically filling in the info you care most about. I use it to prompt me to record my heart rate, max speed, and route conditions in the Comments section. Your possibilities are endless.

So, thank you Stevens Creek, for finally bringing TAD to the Apps Store. My iPhone is complete...for now!!

### 5/5 — Expensive but extremely customisable

*2010-10-10, version 0*

I was wary about paying more than £10 for an application but I haven't been disappointed.
I want to be able to hold all my stats in one place and view trends on my iphone.
This app seems to fit the bill.
With its use of intelligent keywords and a superb search facility I can make this do just about anything.
If I set search to pick up the keyword "dog" for example I can then view the log/charts/stats to show every run where the dog came along.
If I set up a Max HR and Avg HR keyword it will enable me to track these features as well.
It's an incredibly well put together program.
It is not a GPS log but it is a fantastic alternative to a paper log and you can now link to webpages and photos in the phones photo library.

### 5/5 — Best Running Log!!!

*2009-07-21*

I've been using the Athlete's Diary for a month and have been very pleased with the app. I use this daily as a journal for my daily runs. I needed a log app that catered to my training (regular training, intervals, racing) and detailed the distance, time, pace, total runs, etc. Many of the running log apps were lacking in functionality even though they have the capability to track the runs via GPS (iPod Touch or iPhone). I don't run with my iPhone and heck I have even put the watch away when I'm running my regular 10 to 14 miles runs. For some of us, we already know our running routes so I know how far I'm running. The time and pace feature is really important during the days I run my interval workouts or run races. This app is not just for runners as it allow you to customized the type of training so swimmers and cyclist can use this too. It's actually a multi-sport journal. This was the one app the I wanted on the iPhone and I waited patiently when it was first announced that the software would be ported to the iPhone. Simply the best and oh I stop using my running log in my macbook and have been using the Athlete's Diary as my primary running log.

### 5/5 — It's about time!

*2009-06-06*

I've been using The Athlete's Diary for windows for years. I'm so happy to see it finally available for my iPhone. Thanks so much for porting it to the iPhone. You won't find a handier or better way to track all kinds of workouts. If, like me, you run, cycle, walk, hike and swim you can keep all that info in one log.

### 5/5 — Home Run!

*2009-05-16*

I have been waiting for an athletic log that synchs between iPhone and desktop, and The Athletes Diary does not disappoint. The iPhone interface is elegant, simple and informative. Data download from desktop to IPhone is a breeze. Uploading from iPhone to desktop takes a few more steps, but once you get the hang of it its no problem. Outstanding responsiveness from our friends and Stevens Creek to customer interests. You will not be disappointed with The Athletes Diary!

### 4/5 — Oops!

*2014-06-09*

Well I went to TAD's help section and figured out that I had to change setting on my phone. Now everything looks fine. Forget what I said (except the GPS suggestion.)

### 4/5 — Needs major updating, not worth the $

*2011-10-16*

And frustrated that after 10+ years of use it is still so convoluted to back up my data when so many other developers have such simple solutions. Definitely not worth $20. Also, non-functional with iOS5, crashes!

### 4/5 — New update

*2010-07-17, version 0*

I have used this app for a few months and it's great!!! But I have just updated today and I can't update my date on the diary, everytime I press the date it just closes down, I hope this is not an app problem and just my iPhone!!!
