## What is Atlas Detective?

The game picks a secret country and you find it by asking questions.

"Is my country in Europe?" — yes narrows the map to Europe, no paints Europe red.
"Does it border France?" — yes highlights every neighbour of France.

Every question narrows the field. The fewer questions you need, the higher your score.

10 QUESTION TYPES
• Continent and sub-region
• Borders
• Population and area
• Coastline, land border, hemisphere, equator
• Official language and currency
• EU and NATO membership

FIVE MODES
• Single player — find it fast, beat your record
• Daily puzzle — the same country for everyone that day, share your result
• Multiplayer (2-6) — pass and play on one device. Everyone gets a secret country; you hunt the player on your right and answer questions from the player on your left. Wrong answers cost points.
• Reverse — you pick a country and the computer guesses it. It averages 7 questions.
• Atlas — no game. Explore the map and learn the capital, population, language and neighbours of 190 countries.

REAL DATA
Borders come from Natural Earth and country facts from open data sources. 190 countries drawn from real coordinates.

Pick a region to study just Europe, or just Africa.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4 — 2026-10-06

Fixes, and one new thing: you can get back into your room.

• Return to your room. Close the app mid-game and you come back to your own seat and your own board — your score, the questions you asked, your country, all intact. Once a game starts, no one new can join.
• The game no longer locks up after the discovery hunt. Tapping the map while the countries you missed are revealed is safe now.
• Countries brought back by the smoke bomb are properly back in play — tap one and you can guess it.
• When a question reaches you, the buttons stay inactive for a moment, so a stray tap on the map cannot answer for you.
• If you cannot join a room, the screen tells you why: no such room, it is full, or the game already started.
• Tiny countries are no longer grey boxes on the map — they are dots that shrink as you zoom in. Monaco no longer covers its neighbour's border.

### 1.3 — 2026-10-04

Jokers are here.

You start every round with one joker, and perfect sweeps in the discovery hunt earn you more. Seven of them, and none of them cost you your turn:

• Category Lock — your rival can't ask from that family for a turn
• Smoke Bomb — ten eliminated countries return unmarked, their log closes
• Pass — burn the question you were asked; they can never ask it again, but you still can
• Mandatory Answer — your question cannot be passed
• Joker Lock — your rival can't use a joker for a turn
• Capital Initial — learn the first letter of the capital
• Mirror — when your rival asks, you get the answer too

A new question family: Time. Fourteen bands from UTC−6 to UTC+12. The old "same time zone?" question from the map moved here, so the threshold is on screen instead of in your head.

One dark theme. The light look is gone. The game now looks the same on every phone: a map table at night.

Also
• Eliminated countries are red again
• European Union and NATO questions finally work in online games
• If the connection drops, your question isn't lost — it stays in hand, ready to resend
• The box that opens when you tap a country is simpler

### 1.2 — 2026-09-29

This version is a top-to-bottom overhaul.

ONLINE ROOMS
Create a room, share the code, and everyone plays from their own phone.
You take turns asking questions and answering each other. Whose turn it
is — and what everyone else is doing — is always on screen.

ONE PHONE, MANY PLAYERS
You can also play by passing a single phone around. Solo, pass-and-play
and online now use exactly the same interface.

DISCOVERY
After a question eliminates countries, you have to find three of them on
the map yourself. You get 15 seconds: 10 points each, 50 for all three.

NEW DESIGN
• Options are now tiles, each carrying a mark that identifies it: real
continent silhouettes, a crescent and star for the Ottoman Empire,
  figures for population thresholds.
• Country names appear on the map, growing as you zoom in and never
  spilling outside their borders.
• The top bar was rebuilt: candidates left, whose turn it is, and moves
  at a glance.
• The start screen is cleaner.

SCORING
At the end of each round you see line by line where your score came
from. Par is now 8. Finding the country late can no longer score worse
than never finding it at all.

Plus many fixes: buttons going dead after switching language, new rounds
not starting for everyone, country counts not matching in Hard mode,
and more.

### 1.1 — 2026-09-24

Ask from the map. Tap any country and ask about it: does my country border it, is it more populous, larger, north of it, east of it, in the same time zone.

New category: History. The Ottoman, Roman and Mongol empires, the Soviet Union, the world wars, the Warsaw Pact and 10 more.

Questions whose answer is already known no longer clutter the list. After "Is it in Europe? Yes", African regions simply disappear.

Scoring has been rebuilt around par. The end screen now shows exactly how your score was worked out, line by line.

In multiplayer, a full-screen card announces whose turn it is and the scoreboard is finally readable. When someone finds their country the round no longer ends instantly — everyone who hasn't played that cycle still gets their turn.
