Using the app, it had all the basic functionality of a standard banking service. I started to become put off with some small details that made me feel a bit uneasy. For example, you needed to submit a photo ID and a picture to transfer money out to another bank account - I’ve never had to do this before and was concerned that my money was stranded in this account. Additionally, the interest earned on the account didn’t always seem to land at regular intervals, leaving me wondering if it was going to land at all. When I inquired to customer service, the representative addressed me by an entirely different name and answered only half of my questions. I ended up transferring my money out and closing the account. I would love to come back once the application and service is a bit more mature and reliable. Both lack important functionality regarding monitoring/using debit cards and connecting external accounts. Additionally, other banks such as Chase, have difficulty communicating/transferring with Atmos. For this reason, I don’t think I’ll continue banking here. Face ID or a PIN number would be easier to use. I want quick access to my bank account balances ### 3/5 — Authentication *2022-06-16, version 3.2.9* I enjoy this bank and app for the most part, but Atmos really needs to update the two-factor authentication security feature. Currently, you have to use a separate third party app like Duo Mobile to get into the app despite using Face ID, but even still, the codes don’t always work and I’ve found myself locked out of my own account, on occasion. Atmos should really just use your phone number to send SMS codes directly to you, then that way IOS can easily auto-populate the code into the app. Although this sounds like a small thing, it really would be a huge improvement for the UX of the app. ### 3/5 — Could you please change something? *2022-03-26* Hi, I’ve been shopping green banks and comparing apps. The first thing I am noticing with this app is that it immediately expects an IPad user to turn their device 90 degress. I have a keyboard attached to my Ipad pro and it certainly is ackward to turn the whole device sideways just to use a bank app (paypal does this too 🙄. Please make it so your software allows the app to be used in landscape view and I’ll rethink opening an account with Atmos. Thanks and good luck ### 4/5 — Green banking at your fingertips ! *2022-03-01* Love how they are Doing good for our planet with our hard earned money! They align with companies that do good for us and our planet and they give cash back in those purchases. They also contribute to non profit organization of your choice from a list of companies doing good, if you contribute a percentage! Win win They are also very proactive in listening to feedback and making changes accordingly. The only drawback that I have so far, is there are some transfers and mobile check deposits to take a couple of days to process. So if you want your money quickly that can be a little bit of a hangup. Just have to be honest and Highlight the good with some of the things that need to work. Hopefully they will integrate small business banking to tie it all in! Keep crushing it guys! ### 4/5 — Mission driven banking *2022-03-01* I appreciate Atmos’ mission to offer a bank that doesn’t contribute to fossil fuels! The app is sleek and easy to navigate. Can’t transfer money out. Ridiculous that they are in business as a bank. When there parent bank and them split. Theyll send you your funds. if that check doesn’t go through your out of luck. Want to contact customer service? Good luck. The app’s platform is terrible and it is really difficult to do basic stuff, such as send wire transfers. i like the idea of the bank but it is FAR from being a viable option ### 1/5 — Annoying *2023-10-07* App needs to be coded correctly. It’s always crashing anytime i click my checking account details and it’s just a blank screen & never loads when i click card details. I’m going to have to switch banks because it’s like this 1 doesn’t want you to access your money. ### 1/5 — Big problems with recent updates *2023-09-20* I can no longer add funds to my account because the app crashes every time I tap "add funds". I tried downgrading and old versions just show a blank white screen when I navigate to the "move money" section. Also maybe a good time to note that the app has always been bare bones with extremely limited functions and essential tasks that you have to go to the website to accomplish. Can't find terms or info on the debit card in the app, many other such issues. The eco friendly incentive model is cool but the app is pretty terrible so it's very clearly not to be trusted as a primary banking institution. ### 1/5 — several problems with the app *2023-09-13, version 4.0.2* The app crashes anytime I click on my checking or savings account and when I go to the card page in the app, it’s just blank and it doesn’t show my bank card ### 1/5 — Terrible since they changed back end banks *2023-09-13, version 4.0.1* Tap works half the time - other half the time it says “bank not recognized” or something similar. Can’t transfer from Apple Cash to Atmos anymore because they broke that too. The joint accounts we were promised 2 years ago? Still nothing. And now the app gives me a white screen, and everything about this bank is app based. So now we can’t talk to support, check balances, nothing. It’s been like this for 2 days. This bank is done. Move on. ### 1/5 — Poor tech for a tech company *2022-10-25, version 3.4.4* Atmos Financial do not have any brick and mortar components of their own. They are essentially a tech company. That’s fine, but you’d at least expect the tech to work. Their web chat feature hasn’t worked for me in months. Their phone wasn’t working the last time I tried to call either. I’ve only been able to reach them through email. I’ve had issues since the beginning of my time using Atmos as a bank. My account wasn’t granted access to all features even though I’d properly verified everything. (This was the first time I noticed their web chat feature wasn’t working). After some emails back and forth, they were able to correct the issue from their end, but that shouldn’t have happened in the first place. But, issues happen, so I was willing to forgive that. Another time, I was trying to connect an external account for transfer on the app. It let me go through every step, only to tell me at the end that I had to connect external accounts through a web browser… Why is the feature in the app if you can’t use it? They have always resolved every major issue I’ve had via email. However, they haven’t always followed up on the smaller ones—even when they said they would. Also, they use 2FA, but don’t ping whatever service you use to send you a code when you try to log in. This is a small quality of life feature that lots of other companies offer. Alongside this, there is no option to log in with facial ID. There are other little things, but the point is all this adds up and I’ve finally decided to leave Atmos Financial. There should not be this many tech issues with a tech company. These things should just work—especially when they’re holding all your money. ### 2/5 — For your security, you have been logged out *2024-07-28, version 5.0.6* For your security, you have been logged out. Time to enter your email, your password, your 2FA. A quick check of my account becomes a hassle. Citi didn’t require constant logins. Capital One didn’t require constant logins. Why does Atmos require constant logins? I agree with the mission of Atmos, way better than Citi!!! But why does the app have to log me out all the time? Convenience, not good. ### 2/5 — Glitchy *2023-10-01, version 4.0.6* I can’t see my cards or deposit a check through this app because it quits every time I enter the screen. It is straightforward. Incredibly easy to get in and out quickly. My previous bank required too many hoops to jump through. Not so with Atmos, which makes it simple to check my accounts daily. Hey, 2% is nothing to sneeze at. Love seeing the monthly addition, especially after years of next to nothing on my returns from other financial institutions. Plus, they’re doing good work with my money. Go, ATMOS!!! ### 5/5 — My favorite bank so far *2022-07-31* Having banked with BofA and Citizens I can say Atmos provides quality banking on par with the big banks. Besides being climate friendly, they also offer modern 2FA, easy to use virtual debit cards, and a very clean app experience. I don’t see myself ever switching. ### 5/5 — If you’re looking to make a switch, go with Atmos *2022-05-02, version 3.1.1* I picked Atmos because they seem like the least greenwashed of the climate friendly mobile banking solutions. Many climate friendly neo-banks claim to plant a tree with every swipe. Atmos doesn’t do that which is good because it is a ridiculous promise. I am a happy customer. Pros: - App and user interface are clean and intuitive. - Great savings rate. - Round-up feature lets you round up every debit card purchase into your savings or a climate organization of your choice. - Mobile check deposit. - Cash-Back on great brands. - Fee-free. - Peace of mind. Cons: - Connecting your Atmos account from other services that use Plaid can be either impossible or require micro-deposits and a couple of days for settlement. I believe that Atmos has Plaid integration within their own app, but they do not appear in the search function on other apps that use Plaid. - Their customer service/help chat is almost always offline. They respond usually within a day if you leave them a message so this isn’t that big of a deal. - Some features like having linked accounts within the app require a short video call for identity verification. Really not that big of a deal again but if you’re super busy it could feel inconvenient. - Unable to write checks from Atmos accounts. This is increasingly less of a problem for most people. Conclusion: Considering that Atmos is such a new mobile bank, they’re doing incredibly well. The pros far out way the cons imo. I am excited to see them grow as a company. I hope to see further integration across the whole Plaid network. I wouldn’t mind more specific and detailed impact reports but I realize this is an incredibly subjective and divisive topic to delve into. I would also like to see them expand their product range a bit as well. Maybe a credit card and business accounts. (Hint to Atmos: A credit card with cash-back on Certified B-Corps and farms etc. would be super cool.) Anyways, if you’re looking to make a switch, Atmos is where it’s at.
