### 4/5 — Where are the roster?

*2018-05-10*

I truly enjoy using the app. However, I wish the app would allow you to generate a daily roster of the students attendance.

**Developer response:** Thanks for buying Attendance2 and leaving a review. There are a couple options for this.

1. On the screen where you've taken attendance for the day, scroll the top buttons and press "Communicate". The last three rows there give you the option of report including everyone with their attendance status, a report just listing those not there, or a report of just those who were there. This is for that single day.

2. On the main screen for a course, scroll down and select Spreadsheet report and that will generate a report showing the statuses for everyone for all dates between the start date and end date that are specified in the Report settings. You can also customize what fields appear in the report using the Report Settings.

Assuming I understand what you're asking and this helps, I'd greatly appreciate you updating your review to 5 stars. Thanks!

### 4/5 — Last date of attendance

*2017-08-13, version 5.1*

This is a really good app. I used it to take attendance for the past three years. I teach at a community college, and normally have around five on ground classes 25 to 30 students in each class. I recommended the app to a colleague and he now uses it, and thinks it's awesome too!

### 4/5 — Great app, decent UI

*2017-01-29*

Review # 3 --- This app has definitely helped me grow my business. But with that had come another need to share the attendance among multiple coaches. I'd still recommend this app above all the rest, but it would seem fairly simple to add a one button sync to a Dropbox file that could also be shared. Right now the workaround is ridiculously inefficient. Also, for anyone who uses this data to dump to google sheets to process it all, I've found that it's simpler to save the emailed CSV directly to my online server and then link it to auto update on Sheets with the =importdata("URL") formula. Now I can do it all from my phone!

Review # 2 *after update* --- After creating a spreadsheet that filtered everything correctly, this app works perfect. The UI improvement of the header color was a great and needed touch. Once you get to know the app, it's good. Still wish I could've just customized the spreadsheet output, rather than use a series of formulas and several sheets.

Review #1 --- I wish the look and functionality were like the Red Hawk Attendance app. This one is a bit confusing and a tad tedious. Love the customization and calculations. I'd like it even more so if you could customize the exported spreadsheet a bit. My specific want would be to have just the names and the total scores showing. After months worth of classes, that's a lot of data to sort on the horizontal axis of my google doc.

Overall, great app.

**Developer response:** Thank you for buying Attendance2 and for taking the time to review it.

Adding a button is easy but getting sync to work reliably in all cases is very tricky and it's possible there could be conflicts if both people update a course differently. Because of that I don't want to try to get sync working as data integrity is my primary goal (i.e., I want people to know they can trust the data). I'm also not certain you can put a shared Dropbox file in an app container. I hope you understand that the app is designed for individual use in a classroom. It's certainly flexible so it can be used for many tasks, but for a one-time cost of $5, I can't support a multi-user system with all the complexities necessary to ensure a reliable syncing system.

In my experience, most people take attendance on one device primarily and occasionally look up at the data on another device. I have added the option to automatically back up to Dropbox so what I do is choose that option on the device I primarily take attendance on (my iPhone). And then if I want to look at the data on my iPad, I restore the files from Dropbox.

As far as the reports, it sounds like you just want totals. I'm not certain which report(s) you're currently using, but it sounds like you should check the "Summary report" or "Summary spreadsheet report" as they don't contain details for each day. Also, please check the "Report settings" option as it allows you to do a fair bit of customization as far as what is included in the reports.

Hope this helps,
Dave

### 5/5 — Ski Trip - Made Easy

*2017-01-27, version 4.9*

For several years we have been using Attendance to keep track of @ 150 kids on an annual ski trip, among @ 15 chaperones.

The data we use is pretty simple and the formatting is rudimentary (i.e. not flashy) but then information is critical and at finger tips of every chaperone.

On the six hour bus ride to VT we have each kid come to the front and we verify all information and take their picture to add to the file. Having the picture on hand also good for safety, name recognition, etc.

### 3/5 — Best I could find but...

*2016-11-06*

I was looking for a simple way to capture attendance AND analyze the captured data. I used the previous app "Attendance" which would let me dump data to DropBox in a form I could be dropped into a database table without too much difficulty. Attendance2 added many nice new features. It really is a great app for most people, but the reporting is not friendly to databases. It takes a lot of effort to convert reports to simple normalized form, which would support data analysis. So, I went back to the old app until I acquired an iPhone 6s, which broke Attendance. Finally, I decided I did not need many bells and whistles and tried using Google sheets and Excel file on DropBox on my phone and then pulling the data down to Excel with ODBC queries. Both methods work great and I get data in neat tables for analysis. So for most of you, I would recommend Attendance2, but if you want to gather data tables for your own analysis, keep looking.

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2016-10-18, version 4.9*

I have used this app to take attendance for my select choirs for the past year. Works smoothly to do everything it's supposed to do, and support is great. I emailed the app developer and had a solution to my problem (my error!) incredibly fast. Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — This app is beyond amazing!

*2016-10-18, version 4.8*

Seriously the best $5 I've ever spent. Deserves WAY more attention!
I don't know of any other app that allows attendance to be taken with personal QR codes. I just give each high school student a print out, they take a pic of it and scan it each time they come in.
You can even personalize late times, class times, and if you want to email them or their parent on account of an absence.
This app has saved me so much time, whoever developed this is an angel!

### 5/5 — Solid, well-considered attendance app

*2016-09-15, version 4.8*

I have been using this app for a number of years, recording attendance for college classes. It is clear that it is designed by someone has to take attendance. I import the student list from the Contacts app, which in turn imports all the student information from a spreadsheet I can get from the University website. Then, among many other functions, I can easily export attendance figures back to the same spreadsheet. It's perfect for me.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2016-09-01, version 4.7.1*

This app is great! It is versatile for many different needs and could be used in a single classroom or for after school events/activities. The spreadsheet options are great - I’d love to have a few more options, but it does provide quite a few. Dave, the developer is very nice and is responsive to troubleshooting. He helped me figure out a problem I was having in a very timely manner. I appreciate him and his app!

### 5/5 — Use it every semester!

*2016-08-29, version 4.7.1*

I've used this app to track attendance for years now. I love the photo option to help me learn students' names. This app is free and ad-free, many thanks to the developer!

### 5/5 — Excellent app - excellent support

*2016-07-07*

Our education team has been using this successfully to take student attendance. Setup was incredibly simple, including creating and sending QR codes. Being able to save data in a variety of spreadsheet styles and then save directly to Dropbox has been a lifesaver. Support is exceptional. When a request was made to make a small tweak, we received an email within 24 hours and it was fixed within a week.

There is a little bit of a learning curve (not much) but there is ample support available online. An excellent app with excellent support.

### 5/5 — Get this app now!

*2015-10-22, version 4.6.1*

Just tried this out with my 100-voice middle school choir and it was awesome! THANK YOU for an app that makes attendance easy and fun. I highly recommend to any teachers of large music ensembles.

### 5/5 — Simply amazing

*2015-10-10, version 4.6.1*

I don't usually review apps. But this application is amazing and a time saver. It is so helpful with regular size classes, but large size classes (100+) students is where it really shines.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2015-08-22, version 4.5.2*

The visual aesthetics are not much to write home about, but after that this app does everything and way more than I need it to do. What’s more, the developer is super responsive. I emailed a simple question and he responded within an hour or two. Fantastic.

### 5/5 — Cscott

*2015-08-13, version 4.5.2*

Works well after a small learning curve. I use it for all my college course attendance lists.

### 5/5 — from the developer of Attendance2

*2015-07-18, version 4.5.2*

To Summit life: please update to the latest version. Version 4.5.1 had a bug that would crash on launch on iOS 7. Version 4.5.2 fixes this.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Would like a refund

*2024-09-30*

Extremely disappointed in this app. I read the reviews and thought it would be great to help me keep attendance if the teams I coach. Difficult to use. Please refund the cost

### 1/5 — No!

*2015-11-09, version 4.6.1*

Don't do it! I wish I wouldn't have!

### 1/5 — Doesn't even open on my iPad

*2015-07-08, version 4.5.1*

Bought this app for our ministry to track our attendance and I can't get this app to open on any of our iPads.

### 1/5 — Touch Responsiveness

*2015-01-22, version 4.3*

Great app, but there is an issue with the newest version whereby the attendance buttons for each student are not responsive; one must tap slightly above the actual green or red color and on the actual word to change the attendance status. at times, I will push several times and the status won't change. I am using an iPhone 5C. The old buttons for this worked favorably to the current version's.

### 1/5 — Attendance2

*2014-09-28, version 4.0*

Example of an app that did not improve with the new version. The original was easy to use. This thing is almost unusable. I can't even give it one star. Sorry. I am going to the original.

### 1/5 — Wow HORRIBLE

*2014-04-08, version 3.5.3*

You can literally do more with notepad, this app is worthless what a waste of 5.00 should have given it to a homeless person instead

### 1/5 — Way to complicated

*2013-10-16, version 3.4.1*

The creator of this app does not understand simplicity and good design.

### 1/5 — Primitive and inflexible.

*2013-01-23, version 2.1*

This an absolute rip off for the price, considering the lack of functionality and basic interface. Avoid.

### 3/5 — Cvs import procedure

*2020-01-07*

Importing cvs can be a pain. Videos are helpful, but he talks to fast and doesn’t take the time to really explain well.

**Developer response:** Please email me if you need help. I’ve tried to balance making it as general as possible to handle any CSV file format but also as easy as possible. There are videos on my website showing the steps.

### 3/5 — Miss the original app!

*2018-01-03*

I was forced to switch to the new version when the original app stopped working after an update, and boy, do I miss the old version! It was just much more user-friendly and intuitive. If possible, please get the buttons on the bottom of the screen back! I will most likely continue to use this app as it is still the best I could find, but I miss the simplicity of the original app.

**Developer response:** Hi evalarad. Thanks for buying Attendance2. Yes, the old app was originally written for iOS 2 and could no longer be reasonably maintained. The new app has a lot more features and has much better CSV import of rosters. Once you select your course, all the option are in list on the first screen with the most commonly used ones at the top (adding a date and taking attendance). Below that are options for adding students, followed by settings, and then the various report options. Yes, it's different but I think once you use it a bit you'll find you can use it much more efficiently.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2020-12-02*

This app is great and the support is even better. It helps so much in tracking data for my classes.

### 5/5 — Just what we need!

*2019-11-10*

Quick response when I had a problem with email button not showing up. As soon as I emailed with a question I had an almost immediate response with possible solutions. I have been using this app for a year and a half to take attendance at church. It is a wonderful app. I recommend it!!

### 5/5 — Choir folders

*2019-08-22*

I’m one of those users who has a class of 130 people, and scanning binders is super handy! I appreciate just being able to do it

If I had a super wish list, it would be:
Live update/sync between multiple devices (I have multiple iPads in my class, so if it was simple to scan with two and speed up the process and have it sync... well that’d be the dream)!

Also, is it ios13 supported already? Thanks for your work!

**Developer response:** Syncing is very difficult and can have conflicts so I haven’t tried it yet. I don’t want to risk data corruption. You can put half the class in one class on one iOS device and the other half in a different class on the other device and then copy the course to one device so one device has both half-courses on it but you can’t then combine into one course file. I’ve done a little testing with the early iOS 13 betas and the app works (although there’s no support for dark mode). I will do more checking as we get to the later betas and make any updates if necessary.

### 5/5 — Outstanding App For Teachers

*2018-09-06*

My colleagues and I have been using this app for years with great success. If you are a teacher who regularly works with large amounts of students, and are looking for a way to quickly take attendance, this is THE app! The developer is also accessible and helpful if you need to contact him. As a teacher, this is one of the few apps that I’ve not only used for years but has truly made the attendance-taking part of my job much easier. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

### 5/5 — Very good App

*2018-07-26, version 6.1.1*

I have used this app for many, many years and....I purchased an iPad just to use this app, which is not on Android. It accomplishes my goal, which is relating student name to face to attendance.

The Attendance app has been critical to me for a long time because I could quickly and easily capture student photo with student name and email those pictures with 2 clicks to supporting colleagues. I am still learning the new app & Mr. Dave is very responsive and has an FAQ web page with fast to-the-point tutorials that address your needs.

There are various reports to email and I do hope that a one-click solution for emailing photos will be added.

I absolutely love this app that is clearly by a teacher for teachers.

### 5/5 — Great app for attendance...

*2018-06-27, version 6.1.1*

I am a choir director and have used Attendance2 for years. It has never been the “prettiest” app, but does it ever do the job.

The developer does a great job of responding to questions.

I have used this app to have choirs of 60 students scan in before class (I know of one director who had 120 and had students scan in via two different iPads...one for males, one for females). I have used it on a tour, having students scan in as they walk by me.

There are a number of ways to handle the scanning ability (QR codes). You can generate the QR codes outside the app, or the app will do so as well. You can print them or distribute them digitally. I found that my high school students, particularly on tour, would take a picture of the QR code and scan in with their phone—the backlighting of a phone works GREAT.

Also...printing the QR code on labels (I bought a box of full page 1/2 page UPS labels), I could put labels in folders, causing students to have to have their folder at the start of class (there is a tendency in choir for students to get their folders AFTER warm-ups, which is always an annoyance for the teacher).

I have taken attendance a number of ways, and this has always been the most effective and accurate. I can’t praise this app highly enough.

So yes, it isn’t “pretty.” It doesn’t matter...it is a heavy weight champ in my world.

### 5/5 — Support

*2018-01-10*

The developer was quick to respond back to me with quick fixes for the issues I was having. Thanks!!

### 5/5 — I have gained so much class time!

*2017-11-27, version 6.1*

As a choral director with classes of up to 50-60 kids, this app has been an absolute life saver! My kids each have a code on their folder, and they scan in as they enter the room!

### 5/5 — Perfect for music teachers

*2017-09-23*

I have been using Attendance 1 for a number of years now and it has saved me bags of time dealing with paper registers.
I have just upgraded to this version and I am overwhelmed with the new features.
The reports are perfect as I am able to email a school with the attendance of a class within a set time period in minutes.
Tried most of the similar apps and this one is the best one out there!

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2017-09-05*

This really is a first class app! This is a go to app for any kind environment where you need to take a register and/or even keep track of people. Works great with the QR scan. The developer is also very obliging in that he's happy to listen to users and responds to them as well. Great work!
