## What is AtticAlbum?

AtticAlbum is a private photo and video vault built for people who take their privacy seriously.

STRONG ENCRYPTION, SIMPLE EXPERIENCE
Every photo and video in your vault is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, the same standard that protects your Apple Pay transactions. Your encryption key is stored in the device Keychain, where only AtticAlbum can reach it. With iCloud Sync on (the default), iOS backs it up through iCloud Keychain so you can restore on a new device. Apple's end-to-end encryption keeps it unreadable to Apple and to us. Turn iCloud Sync off and the key stops syncing: it is removed from iCloud Keychain and kept on this device only.

### 1.7 — 2026-08-04

This update removes the limit on how many backups you can make, fixes a case where a recoverable encryption key was reported as missing, and corrects screens that said more than the app does.

• Backups are no longer limited. Free accounts used to be able to make one encrypted backup. Now you can make as many as you want. Restoring was always free and still is. Pro is unlimited albums, custom sorting, and location tagging.
• A key caught mid-move is no longer reported as missing. If your encryption key was between Keychain entries, an earlier version could report it as missing, show the recovery screen, and offer to start fresh, which erases the vault. AtticAlbum now finds the key in that state.
• Locked albums stay locked in more places. Storage Insights no longer shows a locked album's cover image, and its photos and videos are left out of the largest-items list. In the album menus, Export, Unpack and Delete are now disabled on an album whose lock is in force.
• Clearer about what leaves your device. AtticAlbum no longer asks Apple Maps to name a place for an imported photo unless you have location tagging turned on, and Settings now spells that lookup out.
• Search that works in your language. Searching by date or media type now works in all seven languages.
• Clearer wording throughout. Backup status and export results now describe what the app actually does.

This update adds a confirmation before you lower a safety setting, makes the welcome screens comfortable on every iPhone and text size, and polishes the wording in every language.

• A second look before you lower a safety net. Turning off Trash, or allowing screenshots of your private photos and videos, now asks you to confirm first. Turning that protection back on stays a single quiet tap.
• Comfortable on every screen. The welcome screens now fit and scroll cleanly on smaller iPhones and at larger text sizes, so nothing is cut off. VoiceOver announces your place as you move through them.
• Polished in every language. Item counts now read correctly when there is only one of something, and the new confirmation messages read naturally in Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Spanish, French, and German.

This update adds silent video recording, brings complete translations to more of the app, and makes saving steadier under pressure.

• Record video without audio. A new microphone button in the camera lets you capture silent video on purpose. Tap it once and your recordings stay picture-only, with no sound. Your choice sticks until you switch it back.
• More of the app speaks your language. Settings, the iCloud backup details, and the recovery screens now read naturally in Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Spanish, French, and German. The Auto-Lock timing options are localized too.
• Steadier saves. Your most recent change is written the moment AtticAlbum moves to the background, so nothing is lost if iOS closes the app.
• Clear storage messages. Saving a photo when space is nearly full now shows a clear message up front.

This update brings smoother restores on a new device, stronger lockouts, and steadier behavior when AtticAlbum is interrupted mid-operation.

• Smoother restores on a new device. If iCloud Keychain hasn't synced your master key yet, you'll see a clear "Checking for your encryption key" screen, and the restore continues automatically once the key arrives.
• Photos appear instantly in new albums. Imports into a newly created album now show in the grid right away, with no need to leave and re-enter.
• Stronger lockout after wrong passcodes. The cooldown and attempt count now persist across app restarts, so force-quitting and reopening cannot bypass the timeout. Useful if your device is ever in the wrong hands.
• Faster Pro purchase recognition. Refunds and Family Sharing changes are now picked up the next time you open AtticAlbum.
• Steadier behavior across interruptions. A wide audit of mid-operation paths keeps your data safe even if AtticAlbum is force-killed during a save, backup, restore, or settings change.
