Previously playback started from the old listening position there, and a reading position could only be carried over on the device itself. So that a late look-up in the book doesn't quietly rewind your listening position, the app never jumps back more than ten minutes. • Apple Watch: control headphone volume directly. Swipe up one page in the player and turn the Digital Crown – that changes your AirPods' volume, not just the in-app level. Until now the app's control could only make playback quieter, never louder than the system volume. • A heads-up instead of a dead end: the camera text search and the jumps between text and audio need your audiobook's speech analysis. If it's missing, the app now tells you up front – instead of letting you take a photo and then finding nothing – and offers to start the analysis right away. Newly added books point this out once. ### 1.4 — 2026-08-01 Audiobooks in more languages, easier importing, and an important crash fix. • Books in English, French and Spanish: you can now set a book's language – and it's detected automatically from the e-book. It drives the audiobook's speech recognition, the camera text search, and therefore the accuracy of every jump between text and audio. Previously German was always assumed, which made indexing useless for books in other languages. • ZIP archives are unpacked automatically: just drop a .zip containing your audiobook (and e-book) into the AudioBookSync folder in iCloud Drive – the app unpacks it into its own book folder on the next scan and clears the archive away. Handy when your cloud service changes file extensions on export. • Fixed: deleting a book folder in iCloud Drive could crash the app several times before the book disappeared from your library. Removal now completes quickly and cleanly. • The home screen widget updates reliably again – right after launching the app and after you take over a position from another device. • Your reading position no longer jumps backwards when opening the reader, and a rare case where the listening position could be reset to 0:00 has been fixed. ### 1.3 — 2026-07-14 Text↔audio sync has been rebuilt from the ground up — jumping between reading and listening is far more precise, and you stay in control. • You decide when to jump: two new icons at the top of the reader replace the automatic jumps. The waveform icon brings the text to the current listening position, the headphones icon starts playback right at the passage you're reading. A one-time note in the app explains this after the update. • More precise jumps: the text matching between e-book and audiobook has been completely rebuilt and now finds the right spot with sentence accuracy — even in long books. • Abridged audiobooks are detected: if the audiobook is an abridged version of the e-book, the app tells you once. Jumps work wherever the text exists in the audio. • More reliable sync between iPhone and iPad: position conflicts are detected cleanly and resolved via a dialog instead of being silently overwritten. • Apple Watch syncs on open: the Watch app now fetches the latest position from iPhone and iPad as soon as you open it — not just when you press Play. • Widget shows reading progress: if you're only reading, the percentage in the home screen widget now follows your reading position. • Correct chapter and total durations for MP3 audiobooks with variable bitrate. • Faster and more stable: text search and chapter matching run many times faster, a possible freeze when opening the reader has been fixed, and switching the audio format inside a book folder (e.g. MP3 to M4B) is now detected cleanly. ### 1.2 — 2026-05-29 Fixes a freeze of the Apple Watch app on cold launch after watchOS had terminated the app in the background.
