## What is Audioguides.com (AOYO)?

Our audioguides (formerly “AOYO Audioguides”) are GPS-controlled audio guides for smartphones: perfect for road trips. This way, you always have your tour guide with you, as the app tells you interesting, entertaining, and exciting facts about the country and its people.
 
Simply install the app on your smartphone and turn on location services. The app uses GPS to detect where you are on your trip. Your tour guide will tell you interesting facts about your destination through your car's speakers – offline and without an internet connection.

Our AOYO audio guides for self-drive tours offer much more than a conventional travel guide: In addition to facts and background information about places and sights, the guide app provides exciting and entertaining background information about the country and its people, insider tips, regional studies, history, culture, curiosities, and special features—all along your entire itinerary throughout the country!

Our audio guides have been compiled by experienced tour guides and will accompany you on your next rental car trip. Installation and use are very simple:
- Individual guides can be purchased within the app (or activated with a voucher code, if available).
- Once purchased, the guide can be used as often as you like.
- Updates can be downloaded at any time.
- Audio files can be played GPS-controlled or manually.
- Once downloaded, the guides can be used completely offline.

We used this in Iceland while we drove around the Ring Road and we always looked forward to the next little tidbit of information. It would come on about every 10-15 minutes of driving and had great information. Highly recommend.

Ich habe die App bei meiner Mietwagenreise durch Südafrika und in Namibia genutzt und kann sie jedem empfehlen. Man hat seinen persönlichen Guide immer und überall dabei und erfährt während der Fahrt viele spannende Fakten über das Gebiet, das man gerade durchquert. 
Es stehen einige Länder zur Auswahl und weitere sind in Planung. Eine tolle Alternative zu teuren geführten Touren!

My opinion may be somewhat jaded having used another app that works in a similar way. We’ve toured many different places in the US using the GuideAlong app, which I must say is far superior. It’s a great idea to have one of these apps in Iceland, but this one needs some work. 

For starters, it would be helpful to know in advance when one is coming up on a site of interest, where it will be, how best to access it, and any helpful tips, such as the numerous ways necessary to pay for parking at many sites. This app informs you of something often times as you’re passing it, with no warning that the site is even being approached. Some of the subjects being discussed we couldn’t find because we were never told where to look.  Maybe say, coming up on your right on the hilltop…bla bla. Or, look for the pull out coming up on your left to visit such and such a site. We found ourselves trying to play the next sound bite before we got there which is distracting while driving. 

Also, it’s lacking filler. We find ourselves wondering if the app was working as we went long stretches with very little content. Iceland has tons of interesting history and folklore. Share more of that, even if it’s in random places.  

Hope this helps you make improvements. Maybe partner with GuideAlong. They do a great job.
