## What is Audonia?

Ear-training exercises on intervals, chord qualities, cadences, and chord progressions. The cadences and progressions follow common-practice harmony and voice-leading, the style taught in university and conservatory theory courses: the leading tone rises to the tonic, sevenths resolve down, and parallel fifths and octaves are avoided. What you hear sounds like real music, not random notes.

Practice the ear-training skills music schools teach and test, on your own, without a teacher at the piano.

The exercises:
• Intervals: Name the interval between two notes, ascending, descending, or harmonic.
• Chord Qualities: Identify a chord's quality across voicings, played as a block or an arpeggio.
• Cadences: Recognize Authentic, Plagal, Half, and Deceptive cadences.
• Chord Progressions: Identify each chord in a functional progression, with optional inversions and the dominant seventh.

Why Audonia:
• Compare to hear the difference. After you answer, replay your pick against the correct one.
• See what you heard. Every answer names what was played: the notes of an interval or chord, or the chords and their inversions in a cadence or progression.
• Endless practice. Every exercise is generated fresh on your phone, so you never run out and never repeat a worksheet.
• Works offline. Generation runs entirely on your device; no connection needed.
• Light or dark mode. Follows your system preferences, or set it yourself in Settings.
• Real piano. Sampled from an actual grand piano, not synthesized tones.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.2 — 2026-10-10

• Options moved from the menu to its own gear button at the top of every exercise, so it is easier to find.
• Intervals: the answer buttons are now a table, one interval number per row.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-10-01

• Fixed a rare problem where the app went silent until it was closed and reopened.

### 1.1 — 2026-09-30

• Confetti celebration for every 10 answers right in a row. You can turn it off in Settings.
• You can now "Select none" in Intervals and Chord Qualities options to clear the list.
• Smoother voice leading in minor keys: moving from ii° to V, no voice now leaps an augmented second (F up to G# in A minor, for instance).
• With inversions on, the vi chord now always sits in root position. Common practice uses the submediant almost only in root position. Inverted, it loses its function.
