## What is Audra?

Audra is an offline-first player for your own AudiobookShelf server. Download your audiobooks and
podcasts to your iPhone, then listen anywhere — on a plane, the subway, off the grid — with no
connection required.

AudiobookShelf (audiobookshelf.org) is a free, open-source, self-hosted audiobook and podcast server.
Audra is a client for it: point it at your server, and your library comes with you.

Features:
• Offline first — download books and episodes and play them with zero connection
• Audiobooks and podcasts together — multi-track books play as one seamless timeline
• Find new podcasts — search the Apple Podcasts directory and download episodes into your library
• CarPlay — your downloaded library, hands-free, with Now Playing controls
• Playback progress backed up to your private iCloud, so it survives a reinstall or a new phone
• Adjustable playback speed, skip controls, and a Mini-player that follows you across the app
• Private by design — connects only to your server; no account with us, no tracking, no data collected.
  Your credentials are stored in the iOS Keychain
• Supports self-signed HTTPS certificates for home servers (Synology and similar)

Requires your own AudiobookShelf server, reachable from your iPhone. Audra is not a content store and
does not provide any audiobooks or podcasts itself.

### 1.4 — 2026-08-01

Audra now speaks Polish, Russian and Ukrainian. The app follows your iPhone's language, and you can
set a language for Audra alone in iOS Settings.

• Polish, Russian and Ukrainian throughout — including the home-screen name
• CarPlay: covers now appear as soon as a row does, instead of staying blank until later
• CarPlay: all artwork is squared, so every row's title lines up
• Fixed cover art turning into a grey microphone placeholder after a long stretch on the lock screen
• Settings now shows when your listening position last arrived from another device
• Progress from your other devices refreshes while the app is open

### 1.3 — 2026-07-13

Import your own audio
• Share any audio file to Audra — an audiobook, an episode, anything — and it lands in your Library to play offline. Import several files at once, edit the title and author (we pre-fill them from the file's tags), or combine a set of files into a single audiobook.

Share your media
• Share the actual audio file of any download straight from the share sheet — send a book or episode to another app or device.
• Share a link to an Apple Podcasts episode right from your Library or the player.

Find more podcasts
• Search the Apple Podcasts directory by episode, not just by show.
• Download an episode directly from its show notes.

Quicker playback
• Play or pause any downloaded item right from its row, with clearer play and pause colors.
• Start a downloaded episode in place from the Podcasts tab — no need to open the full player.

Focus Mode
• A new distraction-free, listening-only Library that hides the tab bar. Turn it on from the Library toolbar.

Share podcasts
Send a podcast — or a specific episode — as a link, straight from the Podcasts tab. Friends who have Audra open it right in the app; everyone else gets a clean web preview with a link to get it.

Even loudness with Volume Normalization
Turn it on in Settings and every book and podcast plays at a consistent volume — no more reaching for the dial between a quiet podcast and a loud audiobook. A slider lets you set how loud.

Pin your favorite podcasts
Pin the shows you follow for one-tap access on the Podcasts tab, synced across your devices.

Player Sync for Rockbox players
Connect a USB Rockbox player to sync your listening progress both ways and carry downloaded episodes onto it — no computer needed.

### 1.1 — 2026-07-02

• Skip silence, listen faster. A new real-time compression mode automatically shortens the quiet gaps in audiobooks and podcasts, so you get through them faster without changing the narrator's pace. The player shows how much time you've saved on each title.
• Subscribe to podcasts. Subscribe and unsubscribe to podcasts right from the Catalog with a quick swipe.
• Filter the Catalog. A new "Show" filter lets you view everything, just podcasts, or just audiobooks.
• CarPlay improvements. Your listening progress now appears next to each title in CarPlay, finished items are tidied out of the list, and the compression mode can be set on the go.
• Fixes & polish. The play/pause button now stays in sync across the player, mini-player, and lock screen; resuming where you left off is more reliable; plus general stability improvements.
