### 5/5 — Best way to listen to the classics

*2024-11-10*

I have now listened to 3 audiobooks with Audrey and it’s the best. The app is user friendly, notes after each chapter/section, depending on how the book is organized.

My favorite part is that you only see the notes after you’ve finished a chapter, this helps you not feel overwhelmed with the amount of information as well as not spoil anything!

Don’t think twice, try it!

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing your experience with the Audrey app. We're delighted to hear that you've enjoyed your journey through 3 audiobooks with us. Thanks for encouraging others to try the app :)

### 5/5 — Would definitely recommend

*2024-10-31, version 0.45.0*

This app has some great books and also goes above and beyond to engage with readers for interactive listen along. I’ve listened to so many books I just wouldn’t have picked up otherwise, some of which have been highly enjoyable.

Thanks for all you do Audrey, you’re fantastic

### 5/5 — My favourite app

*2024-10-16, version 0.45.0*

I love my Sunday mornings listening to Audrey as the sun comes up and scrolling through the notes with a coffee ☕️❤️

### 5/5 — Great way to listen to audiobooks

*2024-09-13, version 0.45.0*

Would recommend!

### 5/5 — An enhanced audio book experience

*2024-07-29, version 0.37.0*

I’ve finished several books on Audrey now and I can’t recommend it enough. Fabulous narration and rich added content from the literary guides (including playlists!) — experts on each particular story — makes “reading” books on this app so much more than just an audio version.

### 5/5 — Much more than just an audiobook!

*2024-07-26, version 0.37.0*

I love the multimedia guides that accompany the audiobook, cued to the chapters, and the music that accompanies the start of each chapter. The audiobook narration is superlative!

### 5/5 — A lovely audiobook experience

*2024-07-23, version 0.37.0*

Audrey provides good audio versions of selected classics, supplemented with illustrations. There is a guide for each book that you can ignore or study as you wish. I’ve found that very helpful when reading to its conclusion the difficult Ulysses (James Joyce), which most readers do not complete. It has a specialised range, and is quite comparable if not cheaper than other providers.

### 5/5 — First class listening experience

*2024-07-08, version 0.37.0*

I have been using the Audrey app for over a year and it has made the biggest difference to my reading and listening experience this year. Each book brings glorious illustrations, excellent narrators but most importantly for me, a fascinating guide who provides comments, insights and a wealth of information and resources which inform my read. I am totally in love with the app and working my way through their collection. Favourites so far have been Sidhartha and Frankenstein which I would never read but for Audrey! Highly recommend! Update 2024. I have now listened to over 30 audiobooks and I think this app just gets better and better. A recent favourite has been Far From the Madding Crowd. I have learned so much through the guides to the audiobooks and ventured down many literary rabbit holes with their help!

### 5/5 — Exceptional Experience

*2024-07-08*

I love this app! This app is far more than just an audiobook app! Having an expert guide’s notes really takes the reading experience next level. The guides can include playlist, voice notes, links to further resources, historical significance and connections, videos, and thought provoking questions. The illustrations that accompany the the audio book are so lovely and really add to the atmosphere of the book! Using this audiobook app compared to others is like eating a meal at a 5 star restaurant compared to eating at a dive bar. No offense to dive bars! 😆
I tell all my friends about it because I’ve enjoyed it so much. Right now I’m halfway through Ulysses by James Joyce. I never could have done this without this app. I would have thrown in the towel after the first episode, but the masterful narrator with the expert guide’s notes and linked resources I’ve found I can slog my way through it! And sometimes it doesn’t feel like a slog! Hooray!

**Developer response:** Thank you! Good luck with the rest of Ulysses! Lucy x p.s. dive bars have their time and place too 😉

### 5/5 — Great for English teachers

*2024-05-30, version 0.37.0*

I teach English in a UK secondary school and I always try to listen to the books I teach on Audrey to get broader context and perspectives that aren’t always available in other resources. I also recommend it to students, whether or not they struggle with reading, because the performances (especially the full-cast ones, like A Doll’s House!) often give so much more of the book’s feeling and meaning than just reading in your head - especially when there’s antiquated language. Really hope they keep adding more books on the curriculum!

### 5/5 — Pride and Prjudice

*2024-05-30*

I loved listening to this book. I have never put a book on audio before and I love it. The reader was great. I will definitely listen to your audio books again. Thank you for a wonderful experience. I have told my friends about your company and I hope you get more listeners.
Sincerely,
Janet

**Developer response:** Thank you so much, Janet!! So glad you enjoyed your first audiobook experience and really hope you continue to find books you love on Audrey 😄

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2024-05-28, version 0.37.0*

I’ve been using this app now for a short time but listened to three books. All well read with a really helpful guide and information.

### 5/5 — A wonderful listening experience

*2024-05-13, version 0.37.0*

This was my first audiobook experience with Audrey and I loved it. The performances were great and the guided information really added to the experience.

### 5/5 — My TBR thanks you Audrey ✨

*2024-05-01, version 0.37.0*

Since I’ve downloaded this app I’ve been able to take soo many classics off my TBR list and actually feel like I understood each of them. The guide alway gives you context for each book and I’ve really enjoyed the Spotify playlist they make, as well as the recommendations they show you once you’ve finished reading. Very glad I came across this app.

### 5/5 — If Audible and your book club admin had a baby

*2024-04-26*

This is everything that I wish all audiobooks could be. I feel like I lose so much when I’m listening to an audiobook. The chapter recaps and character connections that Audrey offers has truly made my audiobook experience so much better. Plus the guide notes?? Are you kidding me?? Gimme more! I love learning! Give Audrey a try!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your enthusiastic review, akmo85!!! We're thrilled to hear that Audrey has enhanced your audiobook experience. We love that you're enjoying the guide notes too - there's definitely more to come! Feel free to reach out with any more feedback or suggestions!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App will not open

*2025-11-10*

For over a week every time I try to open this app, it goes to a spinning wheel on my book. I am not able to report the bug fix or to contact the developer of the apps because the keyboard will not disappear and reveal the SEND button. When I start to type, the send button disappears and I am not able to submit the feedback

### 1/5 — Non-existent customer service

*2025-04-09*

I purchased a book through the app. When I tried to listen to the book, I was not able to log into my account or access my bookshelf. My only option was to repurchase the book. I have repeatedly emailed requesting help and have never heard back. I was looking forward to the listen and subsequent discussions. A bit disappointing to say the least.

### 1/5 — Fabulous app

*2025-01-31*

I love listening to audiobooks and am so pleased to have found Audrey. I just finished The Woodlanders and bought 3 more books to enjoy. The content available after each chapter added so much to my enjoyment, it’s like a mini bookclub in your pocket. The app itself is a breeze to use. It’s obvious the people behind this product care a lot. Highly recommend!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much! We're delighted that you're enjoying Audrey and that the extra content is adding to your experience—"a mini book club in your pocket" is exactly what we aim for! Happy listening, and we hope you love your next book.

### 2/5 — Why can’t I change my email yet

*2025-10-02*

I love the service and love the idea of being given context at the end of each chapter, but because I can’t change my email I can’t use it. If they could allow me to change my email this would be 4 or 5 stars

### 2/5 — Unique and informative

*2023-05-15*

I am enjoying the “extras” about the author and the time periods. The read alongside have been a fun way to re-read classics. I’d like to be able to click play and let it play util I stop it. The stopping at each chapter is not great for driving, but hopefully be fixed soon. Highly recommend!

**Developer response:** Hi! Thanks for taking the time to write a review, we're really glad you're finding all the extras and the listen-alongs fun!

We have actually already fixed the stopping after each chapter! It's now optional... if you click the little clock-like image on the player screen (on the right of the play button), you have the option to toggle hands-free mode on and off. If hands-free mode is on, then the next chapter will just play automatically. If you can't find this, it might be that you need to update the app...

Is there anything else you think we could improve to nudge this up from 2 stars? Email me if you have ideas at lucy@readwithaudrey.com. Thank you!

### 3/5 — Excellent narration but app is difficult

*2024-12-09, version 0.48.0*

I listened to an audiobook on Audrey for the first time as part of a review blog tour. The narration was excellent and it was interesting to have the guide’s and translator’s intros.

Only criticisms are the way the app functions (and these could be my fault for not having read the instructions properly). The narration stopped every time I tried to look a the homepage to see how many chapters there were or look for other details. It also took me ages to find the hands free mode so I had to manually restart the story at the end of each chapter. Again, probably my fault for not reading the small print.

I haven’t had a chance to look at the guide notes yet because the app threw me to the review page as soon as I’d finished the novel, but will dip into them. I didn’t want to read them as I went as I was enjoying the flow of the narrative, notwithstanding having to manually move it on to the next chapter every time. Edited to add: having gone back to the title after finishing the book, I can’t find the notes, if there were any. Yet again, probably something I’ve missed in the small print but noting here in case others are as dumb as I am!

### 3/5 — Needs more features that are standard on other apps

*2023-03-24*

Enjoyed the guide that is available, but there are some features that are not available that I would like to see added in the future. I usually listen to audiobooks on 2x speed or higher and can’t listen faster than 1.5x. I also can’t track where I am in the book in real time. There is only a tracker that shows how many chapters you have left and how long those chapters are. I would also like to be able to see all of the chapters in the book, but you can only see the chapter after you have finished listening to it.

Still needs some work, but headed in the right direction!

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you for this review, really glad to hear you enjoyed the guide.

Your feedback on the features is super useful for us as we're building and developing all the time. I'll try to give a quick idea of where we're at on these points:
- Track speed - we're working on adding 1.75x, 2x and 2.5x
- Tracking - we're working on adding percentage listened to on the book shelf and the top of the recaps page, so you will be able to see exactly how far through the book you are, as well as how many chapters (and hours and minutes) you have left. The reason we don't include the recaps of chapters until you've listened to them is to avoid spoilers. But we'd be open to finding a way around this if you have an image in mind of how you'd like it to work 💡

I hope that helps... if there are other features you'd find useful, or if I've misunderstood what you meant with the above, please email me on lucy@readwithaudrey.com with more details - we'd really appreciate it!

Lucy

### 3/5 — Nothing works

*2023-01-20, version 0.20.0*

I couldn't sign up because nothing appeared in the text box as I tried to write my name.

### 4/5 — Quality over Quantity

*2024-01-29, version 0.37.0*

Lovely app, only had a few books but all cost less than most audiobooks and come with so much more!

### 4/5 — Audiobooks with added value!

*2023-11-03, version 0.23.0*

I heard about Audrey via social media and decided to check them out. At the moment they don’t have a ginormous library of audiobooks but they are adding new titles all the time. To me their focus seems to be on the classics of nineteenth and twentieth century literature. Unlike other audiobook providers Audrey adds extra value by including chapter recaps and a list of characters. And, best of all, they have a ‘guide’ who offers their views, questions, further reading, etc to give you more depth to your listening. There’s usually a bit of music too. I find the chapter recaps really helpful! Currently Audrey are running monthly read alongs which I like as you feel motivated to keep listening. The app is very easy to use and has some great illustrations. The books are very competitively priced and there is no annual subscription to tie you in to their service - the app is free, you only pay for the audiobooks. A great way to listen to some of those books you’ve always meant to read and - if you have already read them - learn a bit more about the novel. I do listen to audiobooks from other providers but I really admire Audrey’s approach.

I love the Audrey app! Their guided audiobooks are a wonderful way to consume classic literature.

The illustrations are beautiful and the narrators are entertaining. Each guide provides cultural context, historical tidbits, and academic knowledge that makes me engage with the story beyond reading.

### 5/5 — Much more than an audiobook app

*2024-12-17, version 0.48.0*

The Audrey app has been a game-changer for my reading journey. It breaks down complex literary works into manageable, engaging insights, making intimidating classics like Metamorphosis by Kafka and Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf feel approachable. The thoughtful analysis and context provided in the guide have given me the confidence to explore books I once avoided, enriching my understanding and appreciation for challenging literature. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to deepen their reading experience!

### 5/5 — Excellent way to listen to classic books

*2024-12-12, version 0.48.0*

Even if a book feels daunting, the included guides, character lists and summaries with the Audrey App make classic books really approachable. Joining a readalong is also a great way to connect with others reading/listening to the same book.

### 5/5 — Makes the classics so accessible!

*2024-12-11*

I got introduced to Audrey through a giveaway of A Doll’s House on The StoryGraph (another of my favorite book-related apps). And after that first listen with the wonderful accompanying guide, I got hooked. I have listened to so many classics I had never read before, and the guides give me essential context to make them more meaningful. Mrs. Dalloway, Far from the Madding Crowd, and Ulysses have been some of my favorites. Just a great app and experience all around.

**Developer response:** Thank you Louise! So glad to hear you've gone on to listen to more books after winning one :) Hope you're joining us for more Oscar Wilde in the October listen-along!
