### 4/5 — This is the best bird app!

*2026-08-09, version 8.6.1*

This app is so good for learning about birds and how to bird watch, because the pictures provided for every species are so beautiful and all the information is very useful when birding. But when I try to use the filters in the bird ID section, like the color and location, it doesn’t work (or maybe I’m doing something wrong?).

### 2/5 — Glitchy App

*2026-08-06, version 8.6.1*

Let me start off by saying I love this app and normally I’d give it 5 stars.

In the current version there is a glitch with the keyboard that makes the app almost impossible to use. I’ll go to type, and then suddenly the keyboard will disappear not allowing me to fully type what I wanted to type.

Considering this app is a guide and you need to type things to look things up, I’m going to rate this two stars until it gets fixed.

### 4/5 — Great but needs fixing

*2026-06-04, version 8.5.2*

I log all my bird sightings in Audubon.

However, version 8.5.2 and the version before it brought instabilities.
A letter ‘r’ in Search brings an error, but letter ’h’ does not.

Merlin IDs a song as Western Flycatcher but Audubon doesn’t list such a bird.

### 4/5 — By Bird Lovers, For Bird Lovers

*2026-05-28, version 8.5.2*

[Note: The developers sent me a very kind reply to my complaint assuring me that no user data is ever sold. Although I am still sore about being suddenly asked to provide an email address, I very much appreciate that they took the time to contact me, and that they were much more gracious than I was! I am changing my review of this app to reflect the experience I had while using it.]
This app is chock-full of information while being accessible and engaging even for beginners. It makes learning about birds easy and enjoyable.

### 4/5 — I take back my bad review.

*2026-05-14, version 8.5.1*

Can’t listen to find birds. That would be my only complaint but sounds like that feature is coming. I had issue with search feature that no longer seems to be an issue. I reinstalled the app and an update to iOS that maybe helped. Not sure. Ether way seems like this will be helpful app for our new house in the sticks!

### 3/5 — Big gap between the Home tab and the Explore tab

*2026-05-11*

The title says it all. This is clearly intentional but a very weird UX decision. It pushes the My Audubon out of the screen and looks very weird.

**Developer response:** Hi, thanks for the feedback on this — we're aware that it's an issue on some devices and are actively working on a fix. Happy birding!

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2026-04-14, version 8.4.0*

I love this app. Helpful for identifying birds, calls, etc. There are several different species that live in the trees and brush in my back yard. Interesting to read facts about each!

### 5/5 — Great bird guide for US

*2026-04-05, version 8.3.3*

Highly recommend this app. The Field Guide is comprehensive and provides a good amount of detail. The fact that you can specify which state and what time of the year so as to narrow down the species for ID is really helpful.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2026-04-01, version 8.3.3*

Great for any level of bird watching. Clean and well designed, essential functions. Definitely a staple.

### 5/5 — comprehensive and user-friendly!

*2026-03-31, version 8.3.3*

i’ve been using this app for about a week now, and i absolutely adore it!

- the bird identification feature goes far beyond the scope of other apps ive tried, it’s highly in depth and isnt as restrictive. you can easily narrow down what bird you saw from all the appearance options. i also appreciate the option to choose based on call alone! you’d have to dig for that specific call in some other apps, and having that option makes things much easier! you can’t always see the bird youre hearing.

- i find myself looking at the photography section of the explore page a lot. it’s nice to physically see birds that were spotted instead of looking at locations and data! it feels more real to me that way.

- the custom lists are very handy. you can pick what birds are on them based on their names, but there’s also a box with their appearance! they also have the option to push notifications if theyre spotted within a certain radius. they tell you where the bird was spotted and when! (date and time)

- with ebird functions built in, it makes it easier to find spots for birding! all it needs is a general location and itll tell you exactly what spots are nearby and how many birds have been spotted there both in total and recently! super convenient for those who don’t want two separate apps just for one function.

- my only real complaint is i wish there were more birds! there’re so many different species from all across the world, i think it would be nice to see birds from outside north america! it would make the app more accessible to people from different countries too.

overall, i highly recommend this app! the app is very customizable, the id features are precise and accurate, inputting sightings is easy, and each species has a thorough explanation of their behaviors as well as sighting maps! very user friendly as well as informative!

### 5/5 — It’s great

*2026-03-30*

Absolutely peak

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — The latest update broke the app

*2026-07-30, version 8.6.1*

The filters on the Bird ID selection have disappeared from the app when using my iPad Mini. They are there on my iPhone. It’s hard to ID birds without the filters.

### 1/5 — TERRIBLE CONTACT SUPPORT

*2026-07-24, version 8.6.1*

Unwilling to help recover an account for a long time user. SHAMEFUL.

### 1/5 — Login kills utility in the field

*2026-06-28, version 8.5.3*

Audubon updated this app so that in order to open the app it requires an account registration and login credentials or (alternatively) an email address you are willing to submit and receive emails at. Either way requires cell or WiFi service, which makes the app useless in the field.

### 1/5 — Off-line field guide

*2026-06-28, version 8.5.3*

After updates it keeps making me redownload off-line field guide. You only notice this while off-line. Making the app useless till you get service again. It has now happened 3x to me.

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2026-06-02, version 8.5.2*

Keep getting a "invalid field guide endpoint response" error when I want to download offline content. Why bother having this feature if it's never going to work? Deleting this app and my account. And they want a donation??? Seriously? They can't even get their app to work properly and they want a donation. Yeah, no.

### 1/5 — Erased years of data

*2026-05-08, version 8.5.1*

I've been using this app for years with no trouble. I recently opened it and all my information was gone. Years of sightings except my locations was gone! I wrote tech support for help and got some nonsense, unhelpful answer that "yeah a glitch has been happening". DON'T TRUST THIS APP!

### 1/5 — What a joke

*2026-04-24, version 8.4.0*

I see a dove I don’t know what kinda of dove it is so I try to identify it and this stupid app asks is it the size of a robin or a crow well it’s bigger the a robin but smaller then a crow

### 1/5 — Run away!!!

*2026-04-23, version 8.4.0*

Had this app for years. Never used the tracking. I used this simply for identification. At one point some years ago, it quit working.
Out of the blue it started working again.
Now after years of having and using this app, it wants me to log in and agree to receive communications.
Frankly, I’m deleting this app!
There are better apps that won’t force tracking!

### 1/5 — Sucks

*2026-04-17, version 8.4.0*

Won’t let me log in

### 1/5 — New Iphone, everything gone, login doesn't work anymore

*2026-03-19, version 8.3.3*

New Iphone, everything gone, login doesn't work anymore

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great app, some hurdles to use

*2026-07-01, version 8.5.3*

This is the best bird ID app available for Apple devices. So straightforward to use, and lovingly presented. NOTE: The app will ask you for account login or email address in order to access it, and this cannot be done without cell or WiFi access, and the process for downloading the app's content to your phone so that the app works without connectivity doesn't get pushed through until *after* you log in, so make sure you get everything set up at home before you take it into the field.

### 5/5 — love it

*2026-06-27, version 8.5.3*

great for birding

### 5/5 — Awesome app if you’re a bird lover or curious!

*2026-06-16, version 8.5.3*

I downloaded this app a couple years ago and haven’t been using it that much until recently and it’s amazing at finding the birds that I’m seeing in my front yard here. It’s a really good Wildlife area. And believe it or not I live in the city. I love that there are several different pictures of both male female species as well as several different voice recordings that each bird produces. It’s a great tool and I love it. The calls are clear.

### 5/5 — Literally the best birdwatching app. No kidding.

*2026-06-03, version 8.5.2*

This app is the best birdwatching app. You can download offline content and it also includes maps, sounds and pictures. It has so many bird species and you can organize them alphabetically or by family. You can also sign petitions for bird conservation and log bird sightings. Also, this app is completely free and accessible. There is a bug where it keeps saying "Retry" if you try to download offline content. Other than that, wonderful app. Great for tablets and smartphones alike. Doesn't take up much storage space either. Thank you, National Audubon Society for making one of the most great apps I have downloaded.

### 5/5 — Audubon Bird Guide

*2026-05-26, version 8.5.2*

Recently downloaded to educate and learn more about birds and this app has definitely done that! This app has been fun to use as well. I recommend!

### 5/5 — Fix a few range maps!!

*2026-05-15*

Some range maps like Pine Warbler, Golden-Winged Warbler, Red-Necked Grebe, etc are quite wrong.

**Developer response:** Hi, thanks for the feedback — we'll pass this along to our science team for review. Happy birding!

### 5/5 — Best Birding App

*2026-05-04, version 8.5.1*

Packed with features, education, and ways to track your sightings. Hands down the best birding app available.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2026-05-04, version 8.5.1*

Enjoy being able to track sightings and see other people’s sitings. Love the information and details.enjoy exploring pictures and information with my grandsons.

### 5/5 — One of the best birding apps

*2026-05-02, version 8.5.1*

As a birder myself this app is pretty useful although I don’t use it that much I use Merlin Id but this app is still really good I would recommend for beginners easy to identify birds I myself have spotted 53 birds in total since I started in total on the Merlin ID app I have seen 75 new birds as of May 2026

### 5/5 — New Iphone, everything gone, login doesn't work anymore

*2026-05-01, version 8.5.1*

New Iphone, everything gone, login doesn't work anymore
