### 3/5 — Clunky

*2021-04-02, version 2.23*

All of the photos are clear, but occasionally - just often enough to be confusing - the caption seems at odds with the photo's subject. A bird that is obviously a juvenile - with juvenile feathers and coloring may be labeled "adult male" Categories are equally elastic, with questionable nearly identical photos appearing side by side for two different species. This is most pronounced in areas one wishes a definitive answer, such as "Which hummingbird (or woodpecker) am I looking at ?"

It's a cute app, perhaps suitable for a child - but not for serious birders.

### 4/5 — Good bird app.

*2020-01-25, version 2.23*

Only down side is that many vocals are not from California subjects and this is the California version that I’m using.

### 5/5 — App review

Great app. Easy to use and easy to navigate around in. Good way to learn about birds!

### 5/5 — Love it

I love this app and have learned so much in terms of bird identification. The map is great. Easy to use app and photos are wonderful.

Good pictures and easy steps to ID’ing little brown jobs:)

### 4/5 — Pismo Beach, CA

*2018-01-25, version 2.17*

Is not on your list of cities? It’s one of the last wetland areas in the central coast!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2017-10-22, version 2.9*

Love it easy to use. Best part about app is getting to a location and finding quick list of birds people have recently seen, even the same day!

### 5/5 — Very easy to use, informative and fun

*2017-09-20, version 2.13*

I enjoy using this app, a lot of thought went into it. It's intuitive, easy to use and I learn a lot from it. Good job guys!

### 5/5 — Great

*2017-09-19, version 2.13*

Great it has lots of cool bird pictures and it has there call🦉🦅🦆🐥🐔🐧🐦🐤

### 4/5 — Good features

*2017-08-15, version 2.13*

Like this app to identify birds based on physical shape, family and name. It will be better if the app can identify by capturing a bird's sound, and I will give five stars for the feature.

### 4/5 — Old-time backyard and vacation birder, started in Santa Barbara in the late 60's

*2017-07-18, version 2.12*

I started with field guide books; now completely converted to the Audubon app. Appreciate the organization and flexibility for identification--particularly the multiple photos of each species and the voice recordings.

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2017-03-15, version 2.7*

Love that there's an option to download the contents of the app for offline reading. If you're interested in learning more about the birds of California, this is the app for you.

### 5/5 — Very useful app

It's very helpful to be able to consult this guide book while in the field. Recent observations and their locations is a great feature. Thanks for such a great app.

### 1/5 — Audubon California Birds

*2023-01-20, version 2.23*

Unable to sign in persistent server error

### 1/5 — Audubon Bird Guide California

*2022-01-08, version 2.23*

Does not work on iPhone 12 / iOS 14.8. I type in my email address and get the error message "Unexpected server error. Please try again." Can't get past this, several days in a row.

### 1/5 — Unexpected server error pleas try again later

*2019-10-08, version 2.23*

This error has been going on for three days now! Audubon loaded fine, not Cailifornia Audubon! Help

### 1/5 — Use of personal info

*2018-07-26, version 2.20*

I downloaded this and was eager to use it until I saw that I had to submit personal information or sign in with Facebook. As far as I’m concerned they don’t need my email address and refuse to use Facebook for privacy reasons. Both options are complete nonstarters.

### 1/5 — NO ABILITY TO IDENTIFY NEW BIRDS

*2017-10-02, version 2.13*

I had the Cornell Lab Bird ID on my old Nexus7, and it worked like a charm to help me find out what kind of bird I was looking at. I entered parameters, and it gave me a list of birds it could be I was looking at.

This one is difficult, non-intuitive, and I wound up deleting it in sheer frustration as totally useless. A good hand-held field guide would be easier to figure out!

### 1/5 — App login feature is corrupt; lost my saved birds/sightings

*2015-10-14, version 1.6*

Unfortunately, the app has a lot of login bugs. It won't accept my Facebook login, although I got it to work the first time. But now it won't let me log back in with Facebook. I have tried deleting and re-installing, but no work. I lost my history of bird sightings. This is sad because I got the app specifically because I wanted to maintain a journal of my sightings.

### 1/5 — Doesn't load on my iPad2

*2014-09-16, version 1.4*

After loading, the icon stays gray with caption "installing" for days afterwards, never becoming functional. Waiting for the technical support to help me. BTW: the "Feedback" webpage is flaky - after I typed up all the info, filling all the blanks, doing capcha, it told me that "this page can't be found on the server" I had to re-do everything and it worked on a second try.

### 1/5 — Dates

*2011-11-30, version 1.4*

I lost all my dates and comments in life lists when updates occurred. This is an awful programming error that needs immediate attention and a solution as well. Over two years of bird sightings were wiped out. I'm afraid to enter anything ever again. And will warn everyone not to use this app. Birdwatchers take their findings seriously and this technology needs serious help. If I had even been warned I could have hand written my findings. I am very upset.

### 2/5 — App Needs an Update

*2022-11-20, version 2.23*

Each time I try to sign-in with my email address, Audubon’s servers have an error. I’ve tried 3 different devices and at several different times; There must be something wrong with the app internally. It’s really a shame because I think an exclusively Californian bird app is a brilliant idea! I was so excited when I found it on the App Store! Since I have yet to actually use it, I don’t feel comfortable rating it. I’ll give 2 stars for now until the issue is fixed.

### 2/5 — First impression

*2015-06-22, version 1.5*

The app is called "Birds of California" yet the location pin starts in Vermont. That was annoying. Additionally the "pin" can only be moved a very short distance at a time. So if I want to list a bird sighting in CALIFORNIA, I have to start in Vermont and slowly move the pin bit by bit until I reach the west coast. I'm not sure if this is a bug, but it's really upsetting considering that I paid over $10 dollars for this app.

### 5/5 — Wonderful Local Bird Sighting and Identification Reference

*2021-06-04, version 2.23*

I have used this app for a number of years now, but after a recent move to a new area I have enjoyed being able to use maps to look up where observations of the different birds have been made. I can look up observations made in my town, and can narrow that to regions within my town. Using this feature, I have confidently identified many of my observations. This summer I plan to utilize this app when I take vacation, so I can more enjoy the local birds. All in all, a great reference guide at my fingertips.

### 5/5 — This app gives me serotonin

*2020-05-11, version 2.23*

This auto downloaded on my phone and i love it. 10/10 barn swallows. Vary cool. The first time I’ve been happy all week. I will support the national Audubon society until i die.

### 5/5 — My favorite birding reference

*2019-06-23, version 2.23*

The information in the app is easy to access and understand. I’ve had this app for a while and it has definitely improved over the years. The audio samples are particularly useful. Thank you for providing the public with a fun, educational tool to learn about birds.

### 5/5 — Rational Animal Loves It!

### 5/5 — Fun exploring with the kids

*2019-04-13, version 2.23*

My son and I love listening to and identifying our neighborhood birds by listening to the bird calls on this app. Our favorite is the Western Screech Owl.

### 5/5 — My favorite bird app!

*2019-03-21, version 2.23*

This along with Merlin are my go to apps

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2019-03-16, version 2.22*

I am about a month into my first backyard bird feeder, San Francisco. Combining search descriptions I’d figured out the main 2 or 3 I see, but this is VERY easy to use with Range, behavior, etc to check my guesses.

### 5/5 — Great resource

*2019-03-12, version 2.22*

Excellent resource and education how to help local birds to survive
