## What is AuroraMe?

See the Northern Lights with confidence — not by luck. AuroraMe is your aurora borealis tracker combining real-time space weather, cloud coverage, moon phase, and local darkness into clear visibility forecasts. Track locations worldwide on an interactive 3D globe and get notified only when conditions align for actual aurora viewing.

3D GLOBE AURORA MAP

See real-time aurora activity across the planet on an interactive globe. Toggle aurora probability heatmap overlay to spot where the lights are dancing now. Switch between dark and NASA satellite night themes. Day/night terminator zones show viewing windows instantly. Tap anywhere on the globe to check aurora probability and add tracking locations.

AURORA SCORE

Aurora Score combines space weather, magnetic latitude, darkness, clouds, and moonlight into a 0–100 viewing score. It is a model score, not a calibrated probability.

SMART AURORA ALERTS

Alerts are sent only for your active locations. We factor in darkness, cloud cover, moonlight, and geomagnetic activity, so an alert means a high chance, not a 100% guarantee. Forecast, storm, KP, and solar flare alerts are heads-ups to get ready. Before heading out, open the map to confirm conditions.

72-HOUR FORECAST

Hourly aurora predictions paired with weather data. See cloud percentage, moon phase, darkness windows, and temperature hour-by-hour. Use "Best Time" filter to show only optimal aurora viewing hours. Free users: 24-hour preview. Premium: full 72-hour detailed forecast with extended planning.

27-DAY TREND CALENDAR

Daily aurora activity summaries for trip planning. Shows best 6-hour viewing windows per day. Excludes unreliable long-range weather predictions to prevent false hopes. Perfect for planning aurora hunting expeditions and photography trips weeks ahead.

AURORA HISTORY

11 years of history and Sun Pro insights. Best months algorithm shows optimal times to visit any location. Calendar heatmap displays 12 months of aurora intensity patterns.

FIND NEAREST AURORA

Discover active aurora within 2000 km of your location. Distance-first algorithm finds the nearest visible displays for spontaneous aurora chasing. Perfect for road trips when conditions shift unexpectedly.

67,500+ LOCATIONS OFFLINE

Search cities across 252 countries with instant offline results. Track unlimited locations with independent notification settings for each. No background GPS tracking — your privacy protected.

HOW IT WORKS

Four reality factors combined: space weather from NOAA OVATION model + real-time KP index, cloud coverage forecasts, sun altitude and moon illumination, magnetic latitude thresholds. When all factors align during dark hours with clear skies, you get notified.

FOR AURORA HUNTERS & PHOTOGRAPHERS

Whether in Alaska, Canada, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Scotland, or northern US — avoid wasted drives and cloudy nights. Save viewing spots, set alert sensitivity, let the app monitor conditions 24/7. Photographers get probability data for optimal shooting windows.

FREE — EVERYTHING YOU NEED

1 location, full 24-hour forecast, unlimited aurora & storm & Kp & solar flare alerts, all 6 map overlays, data updated every 15 minutes.

PREMIUM — FOR AURORA CHASERS

Unlimited locations worldwide, 72-hour forecast, 27-day trip planner calendar, Best Time filter, Best Month & seasonal heatmap, Nearest Aurora finder, advanced alerts (predictive, Storm Watch, CME Impact ETA, Local Window, Weekly Forecast), Sun Pro AI-powered solar analytics.

PRIVACY

Location used only when you choose — no background tracking.

### 4/5 — Impressively comprehensive yet accessible app

*2026-06-11*

Nice up front forecast of auroras is very accessible, though it's every 3h and I wish there was an option for hourly. Massive amount of technical detail is extremely well presented, and linked to very comprehensive alert options. I had some trouble with forecasts right after installing, but that bug hasn't resurfaced, and the developer is very responsive. If you want to watch auroras then I highly recommend this app.

**Developer response:** nashwaak, thank you for the thoughtful review and recommendation — it genuinely means a lot!

Glad the early forecast issue hasn't resurfaced. The 3-hour step is intentional: the official Kp forecast from NOAA SWPC is published in 3-hour blocks, so a true hourly view would largely be interpolation rather than fresher data. AuroraMe does pull faster live inputs — NOAA OVATION, cloud cover, darkness, and moonlight — for real-time status and alerts, so those update more frequently. I'll keep looking for a way to surface a clear hourly view of local viewing conditions without implying the space-weather forecast is more precise than it really is.

Clear skies! 🌌

### 2/5 — Very limited accessible information content

*2026-06-05*

Upon downloading, the app gave me forecasts every 3h for my location, which was sparse but acceptable. However, a day later it is giving me no forecast info at all, for any location, and only shows current conditions. Apparently I'm an idiot for paying for an annual subscription, hopefully it's not too late to cancel. The app does provide many technical details and it has a decent illustration of the current extent of auroras.

**Developer response:** Hi nashwaak,

That's genuinely frustrating — you paid for an annual subscription and the forecast disappeared on you the very next day. I'm sorry about that.

Two quick things to try:
1. Force-close AuroraMe and reopen it
2. Go to app Settings → Restore Purchases — this re-links your subscription if it got disconnected

If neither helps, please email me at app.aurorame@gmail.com with your app version (Settings → About) and I'll dig in right away. I want to make sure you're getting the full forecast you paid for.

### 1/5 — Need subscription

*2026-06-05*

Can’t do jack or see anything useful without a subscription. What a free world we live in.

**Developer response:** Hi FrenzyEmzy, I hear the frustration. The free version does include the aurora map (all 7 layers), Kp forecast, cloud cover, and unlimited basic alerts — real tools for catching the lights. Premium unlocks the 72-hour forecast, more locations, and trip planning. I'm working to make the free features more obvious so they don't get lost behind the upgrade prompts.

### 5/5 — Good but one or 3 questions

*2026-03-28*

This is a good app for aroura hunters like me, thank you so much for making this app possible. But the 1-3 questions is when it’s day time I would try to zoom in and it would show dark time but I think all the other apps are like that, but that was the only question. And the app tracks really good🤯 when the aroura was purple and I would go outside and see them. But one little thing I hope you guys will change may you please update the coulds? Please and thank you.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your kind review! It really means a lot to hear that the aurora tracking works well for you — seeing those purple lights in person is what it's all about! 🌌

About the dark/light display when zooming in during daytime — the map uses a dark theme by default for the best aurora viewing experience, so the background always looks "nighttime" regardless of your actual time of day. The sunlight layer (which you can toggle on/off) shows the real-time day/night boundary accurately.

Regarding the clouds. The cloud data currently updates about every hour and shows accurate coverage within approximately 30 km around your saved locations. We know this can feel limited when looking at other areas. The good news: in our next update we're adding a Rain Radar layer with near real-time precipitation data (updates every 10 minutes, global coverage). If you see rain or snow on the radar — aurora viewing won't be possible there, so it's a very practical tool for planning your aurora hunt!

Thank you again for using the app, and wishing you many more clear skies and vivid auroras! 💚

### 5/5 — Idiot proof

*2026-02-28*

Idiot proof for idiots like me who want to film the aurora but just need a simple answer as to when and where best to see it / capture it.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much, tvmob! That's exactly what we're going for — clear, simple aurora alerts without the guesswork. If you ever catch a great shot, we'd love to see it! Happy aurora hunting!

### 1/5 — What a waste!! Don’t pay for this!

*2026-02-26*

Not useful

**Developer response:** Hi Jay, sorry to hear AuroraMe didn't meet your expectations. Could you share what felt lacking? We'd genuinely like to understand and improve. You can reach us anytime at app.aurorame@gmail.com — we're a small team and every piece of feedback helps us get better.

### 1/5 — Macht nicht das, was sie soll

*2026-01-21*

**Developer response:** Tut mir leid!

### 3/5 — App doesn’t seem to have the latest info

*2026-01-21*

Yesterday there were auroras “from Germany to the Southwest United States”, but app had every score low for Chicago.

I doubt I’d have seen it anyway with the light pollution but today (now that it’s over) all the numbers are up.

Maybe I’m using it wrong but I don’t think so.

**Developer response:** Sorry about that. Our score is your local chance (clouds, oval/height, moon & light pollution), not global headlines—so Chicago can be low even during a big storm. v1.4.4 is currently in review and improves data updates plus adds an aurora globe.

### 1/5 — no support, no way to cancel

*2026-01-20*

no support, no way to cancel

**Developer response:** Sorry about that. There’s no in-app support button, but you can reach us via the developer contact email on the store listing. To cancel: Google Play → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → AuroraMe → Cancel (iPhone: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions). v1.4.4 is currently in review with improvements.

### 2/5 — Waste of time

*2026-01-01*

We just celebrated for new years and guess what? The air quality went bad, no northern lights was expected til tomorrow. And I’m very inpatient.

**Developer response:** I’m really sorry your New Year’s plans didn’t turn out the way you hoped. That frustration is totally understandable.

Unfortunately aurora visibility and air quality can change quickly and are out of our control.

Wishing you a much better viewing soon — and a happy New Year.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.9.2 — 2026-08-27

Thin high clouds no longer count against you. The forecast now tells solid low cloud apart from the wispy high kind you can see the aurora straight through.

A clear night under a high haze now reads as clear, instead of "Cloudy".

### 1.9.1 — 2026-08-26

Première visite ? Le parcours d'accueil se déroule désormais sous une aurore vivante, dessinée image par image au lieu d'une photo figée.

Les écrans d'abonnement ont été refaits, et l'application prend moins de place qu'avant.

### 1.8.1 — 2026-08-22

The app opens faster. Screens you can't see no longer do their loading in the background before you ever get to them.

Also fixed: forecast dates could land on the wrong day in some time zones, adding your first location could crash the app, and the rating request no longer interrupts your first run.

### 1.8.0 — 2026-08-19

The app opens faster. Screens you can't see no longer do their loading in the background before you ever get to them.

Also fixed: forecast dates could land on the wrong day in some time zones, adding your first location could crash the app, and the rating request no longer interrupts your first run.

### 1.7.9 — 2026-08-12

The app opens faster. Screens you can't see no longer do their loading in the background before you ever get to them.

Also fixed: forecast dates could land on the wrong day in some time zones, adding your first location could crash the app, and the rating request no longer interrupts your first run.
